Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA has been shot in an apparent assassination attempt during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University. A suspect is in custody.

Who? Of what?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 - 04:20 pm: Edit

Man in custody is reportedly not the shooter. Kirk is in surgery, “it doesn’t look good.”

By Jessica Orsini (Jessica_Orsini) on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 - 04:46 pm: Edit

Ayup. The original suspect was an older white-haired man, but was determined not to be the shooter, and was released. It was apparently a roughly 200-yard shot from a building on the campus; the shooter remains at large.

As of a few minutes ago, Pres. Trump posted that Charlie Kirk is dead.

AP just posted Charlie Kirk's death.

Condolences to his family.

Sad. From what I saw of Charlie Kirk he often challenged college students (uncomfortably at times) to think for themselves and investigate the information they were being fed by the extremists and social media. He challenged them to dig deeper than hot topic popular opinions. Most of their beliefs began to collapse after just two questions and he openly invited them to look at all sides of an issue not just what they heard.

Thoughts and prayers.

By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 - 06:35 pm: Edit

Indeed.

I suspect that we, as an open Representative Democracy, are poorer for the loss.

Agree, or disagree with him, he was always civil, and often treated the students better than they treated him.

Thoughts and prayers for his family.

Mr. Kirk also leaves behind a wife and young children.

A cowardly and particularly evil murder.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 - 09:29 pm: Edit

I cannot say I had ever heard of this guy, but everyone else seems to know he was the guy who convinced college men to vote for Trump. That doesn't make him the one man who changed the election, but he was one of half a dozen who combined to put Trump in office.

Events like this, do more damage to the activists causes than any opposition to it ever could....

This whole thing just makes me feel sick.

The original older man non-suspect was reported jailed for hindering an investigation.

The governor said several hours ago that another different suspect was under interrogation. A report an hour ago said they were still looking for the killer and the second suspect had been released.

You might consider viewing a You Tube video of Mr. kirk.

It will not harm you, and could give you a new insight into what we as a Nation have lost.

He is said to have changed thousands of lives over the years by giving college students across the nation a new understanding of the world than what the indoctrination they got from their liberal college professors in classes.

By Jessica Orsini (Jessica_Orsini) on Thursday, September 11, 2025 - 09:40 am: Edit

Mr. Kirk had also stated that:

• the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a "huge mistake";
• Jewish money is ruining America;
• gay men deserve death;
• homelessness should be fixed via mass incarceration;
• mask requirements during the pandemic were "medical apartheid"; etc.

His campus "debate" style was a combination of Gish Gallup and constant relocation of the goalposts.

He was, in short, someone who pushed buttons in hope of getting an angry response. It would appear that he has succeeded in the most final fashion possible, which is deeply unfortunate; this assassination only serves to reinforce the use of violent response to politics that has accelerated in recent years.

Apparently Mr. Kirk was murdered with a bolt action rifle from 200 yards where the sniper was hidden a wooded area. [EDIT] A newer report I just read said the rifle was found in the woods, but the shooter actually took the shot from the roof of a building.

Looks like the shooter knew what he was doing to at least some extent. Bolt action is a good choice for distant targets. Also, while 200 yards is no problem for a trained sniper, your average Joe is starting to have problems with hitting targets at 200 yards.

While I have no more facts than anyone else, I guess that the shooter was aiming for Mr. Kirk's head. While the shooter was obviously well centered, I'm guessing bullet drop brought the round down to the level of the victim's neck - where Mr. Kirk was actually struck.

So all that makes me think the shooter is at least casually trained, or at least practiced, but not a professional or trained professionally. Obviously I could be wrong. Maybe the perp wanted that round exactly where it landed.

Anyway, with the whole of the Feds hunting the perp down, and it looks like they have "him" on video, he's likely going to be caught. That is, unless he's got an excellent escape plan or is a highly trained operative. When they do catch him (again assuming it's a "him"), I'm interested (in a morbid sort of way) to find out whether my guess is correct.

By A David Merritt (Adm) on Thursday, September 11, 2025 - 11:59 am: Edit

It will be interesting to see if the shooter is an American or not.

We had the recent strike on the boat in the Caribbean, this shooting of an associate fits organized crime behavior.

The Iranians are unhappy over the airstrikes, an important MAGA supporter would make sense.

Putin appears to be displeased with President Trump pushing peace proposals, this is a bit flashy for the Russians, but not outside of what they might do.

Also, you may have folks that had a loved one deported.

While this sort of thing is often domestic, and I am not dismissing that possibility, Gavrilo Princip was not from Austro-Hungaria and was fed up with interference in his country.

The FBI has released images from a stairwell security system of the suspected shooter. Young white male with dark baseball cap; sunglasses; long-sleeve black T-shirt with images of an American flag and what looks like a MAC-10; blue jeans; white sneakers; no visible tattoos or other identifying marks.

Notably absent in the images is the rifle; as the suspect is ascending the stairs toward the roof (from which the shot is believed to have been fired), it is possible that the rifle was pre-positioned.

By Jessica Orsini (Jessica_Orsini) on Thursday, September 11, 2025 - 01:18 pm: Edit

Further update: the rifle was an "older-model" Mauser 30-06 with a scope.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, September 11, 2025 - 01:31 pm: Edit

I would be reluctant to assume that the assassin was some kind of trained sniper. Lots of hunters can hit a deer in the heart at 200 meters and they would resent being called a sniper. Also, I would hesitate to infer a point of aim from the point of impact. The shooter could have been aiming for anything and hit anywhere. You’re talking about a few inches and there are a dozen potential reasons for that kind of drift. Ammo production lots, wind, rotation of the earth, heat distortion, scope misalignment, nervousness, a step taken by M Kirk, the shooter’s pulse. Being a soldier I would aim for center of mass, but for a soldier, enemy is desd and enemy on the way to a hospital are both good.

Orsini:

What are your sources for your assertions about Charlie Kirk?

Or are they opinion or cherry-picked statements taken out of context or main stream media sour grapes or activist talking points.

Raider:

In a YouTube video from July 2024, Kirk repeated his view that the Civil Rights Act was a "mistake" because it created a "beast" that had become "an anti-white weapon". In a YouTube video from July 2024, Kirk repeated his view that the Civil Rights Act was a "mistake" because it created a "beast" that had become "an anti-white weapon".

In fall 2023, after Hamas attacked Israel, Kirk said on different episodes of his podcast "The Charlie Kirk Show" (26 Oct and 7 Nov, to be specific) that "Jewish dollars" were funding Marxist ideas in education and policy and contributing to opening the borders. The direct quote from the later of the two: Jews have been some of the largest funders of cultural Marxist ideas and supporters of those ideas over the last 30 or 40 years. Until you cleanse that ideology from the hierarchy in the academic elite of the West, there will not be a safe future. I'm not going to say Israel won't exist, but Israel will be in jeopardy as long as the Western children, children of the West, are being taught, with primarily Jewish dollars, subsidizing it, to view everything through oppressor oppressed dynamic. Until you shed that ideology, you will not be able to build the case for Israel, because they view Israel as an oppressor.

Whenever the topic of gay people came up during his various campus events, he was fond of quoting Leviticus 20:13, which of course includes the phrase, "they must both be put to death".

His statement regarding using mass incarceration to address homelessness can be seen on his YouTube video of a little over a month ago (6 Aug 2025).

The quote about mask requirements as medical apartheid was on Fox News in an interview with Tucker Carlson in July 2021.

And that will be the last I say about that. I'm not going to be pulled into a debate regarding the man.
