Still drooling, waiting on the possibility of an expansion for SFBF- even though I just made my first FC purchase! Any word on how things are going?

Which is unfortunate, considering what a cool game it is.
Been trying to teach it to my kids, but they do better with "Star Fleet Missions" at their age.

Yeah, SFBF could really used a breath of fresh expansion pack.
It's too bad the cards are so expensive to replicate.
By Jamie Carney (Carthaginian) on Friday, November 21, 2008 - 01:09 am: Edit |
If ADB would give us an estimate on how much the deck would cost to get printed, I could see (after the holiday bills go away) paying in advance to help finance the printing, as long as the cost per unit wouldn't go too much beyond the original deck. So what if there's a wait of a couple of months... it'd be worth it. I'd just view it as investing in one of my favorite game companies.
Any others willing to go this far?

Another 1,998 of you and we've got a plausible idea, but if everyone on this BBS did it, we wouldn't have enough.
It's on the high side of $10,000 to print the cards. That would print a deck of 132 which I would sit down in front of the TV and break into four expansions of 33, by hand. But then, I like TV.

Mmmm, four expansions.

It does make the mouth water, don't it? :D

Who's been stealing my surname?
(Just kidding.)
But on a less off-topic-ey note - at least we have the extras added in CL/as PDFs to help out...

Yeah, they make my hungry for a real expansion for the Hydrans. I've thought about colorizing them and printing them on some stiff paper myself, just to make due till the expansion comes out.

Check the Battle Force folder on consimworld.com at the following link. An enterprising (No pun intended.) user from Canada has already colorized the Hydran, the Lyran, and the ISC ships from Captain's Logs 25, 27, and 29. Go to messages 35, 38, and 39.

That would be a copyright violation. Somebody tell him to take them down, pronto, before I have to officially notice what he did.

SVC,
I dropped him an email.

Here's a better idea. Tell him to send them to us, we will put them on the site and send him a free captain's log.

Just bought BF, and sat down with my two boys (aged 10 and 8) and learned the rules together. We were having such a blast playing my wife had to make all 3 of us go to bed, lol!
Can't wait for the Expansion Packs. They look very well done and will add alot of fun to the game.

OK if the cards are that expensive to make how about a reprint of something less extravagant. Or even a " Print them yourselves at Kinko's " kinda set. I love this game but I guess there are not enough of us huh?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, August 08, 2009 - 09:20 am: Edit |
Such things don't produce the "quality" of cards players expect.

Granted " and I wish I had the 10,000.00 you spoke of earlier " but this game holds my attention constantly as do a fair amount that have actually found this board and use it from time to time. I've printed out a few things for a game called Talisman when they went through their 10 year hiatus. I admit that does not make money though. I thank you for your quick response so I imagine this is still on your " to see about doing list. " LOL. Maybe if we can get 40 steady and hungry fans together we can each " invest " 250 bucks.... How About it every one?

My friends and I are also fans of SFBF, and I had considered the idea of creating my own decks using a service like www.artscow.com, where it's possible to build a custom deck of 54 cards (front and back) for about $7 per deck. According to reviews on www.boardgamegeek.com, the quality of the cards aren't ideal, but are still quite good. Perhaps it would be possible to have BF sets made available on this site until more official decks become available?

I am interested in an expansion

Everybody else is, too, except the woman who writes the checks to pay for the printing bill.

my old cards are getting rag tagged if there was an expansion I would probably buy a new set of original cards so people wouldnt be able to see the new cards on the top of the deck so it might generate sales of the original game to make up for its possible losses.
By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Tuesday, September 08, 2009 - 04:35 pm: Edit |
I bought card protector sleeves with a solid color back. This way I created my own expansion from the CLog proposed ships that have come out. Just copy, cut, and paste onto a regular playing card (poker). Since they sell the protectors in different colors you can separate by ships and actions easily. It also works well to cover up the tattered backs of the set I have.
SVC: Is it the cards themselves that make the game expensive or the color printing? Would it cost a bunch to convert the original game to a grayscale card game and thus allow you to produce a grayscale expansion at a reduced cost? I know you probably have a bunch of exisiting copies of the game left and that alone would likely be a prohibitive factor but I thought I would ask just the same?
