Someday I will be making it to origins. I'm over here in AZ. I figure I will make this a family trip for when my sons get older. I hear that Star Fleet is big in origins.

Go - STAR FLEET WARLORDS!

Good Gaming,

Standard Game G75 Delay

Turn is Delayed. I think some of the players have not recieved Email.

Note: I hate Hotmail. I just tested sending to Hotmail via play-by-e-mail.com account AND my comcast.net account. Both got put into the Junk mail folder.

You probably already figured out the Junk Mail problem. But for everyone elses benefit my spam servers at work block emails in many ways but most notably:
1) by too few words in the body of the email
2) If there is a risky file attachment. Our email spam device looks into the content of attachments and can determine if it is a renamed EXE, script, or if such files are contained in a ZIP'd format. The ZIP'd text files and PDFs from play-by-e-mail are o.k. but some text files can easily be a script so the extension is important.

Hmmm. I wonder if I include the text of the report in the Email that might solve the problem.

Arthur,
This is partly my fault and partly a bug in the SFW engine. (At least I think it is, I need to understand it more to make a definitive judgement.)

The emails got sent out a few hours ago.

Why is there not a terrain scan star base order? Ships can do terrain scans, ship scans (with numbers at crew 5), and cloak scans (with numbers at 7). Bases do an automatic ship scan with Battle Stations giving ship numbers. Would it not make sense to have a ST, scan terrain starbase order?

By Arthur De Laura Sr (Thedoc) on Monday, February 06, 2006 - 09:45 am: Edit

David
The ships have to be in the sector they SCAN.
Your idea of ST would be too powerful.
The Base station all the way up to a Megabase can only SCAN in the sector it is in.
We no longer have SX,except in adjacent sectors, because it`s so powerful.Scouts are one of the most important ships you have.Heavy Scouts let you know if someone is looking in the sector= HSC.
The game is more economic than military. If I have more money, I buy more ships than you . You loose.
This is not SFBattles. In SFB one DN can kill 8DD`s. In SFW the 8 DD`s kill the DN.
DN`s Firepower is divided by 8 while the DD`s is add together.SFW is a great game. I love playing it. If you don`t know how to do something just ask.
I help everyone
HAVE FUN

Fully understand why the SX order was restricted to adjacent sectors. Did not intend for the Scan Terrain order to be available for any sector just the sector which the base was in. This would then give a choice of buying a scout and sitting and scanning, or gabing a site in the sector and slapping down a BS and LS, or SB.

David
How would you find a site to put the base on?
SH or run around blind?

Hi!

I was just wondering:

Is there a plan to incorporate the Magellanic races into Warlord - possibly in a self-contained campaign (with the possible allowance of Jindarian, Iridani, Bolosco and Andromedan ships to liven the party)?

New Terrain Suggestions:

1. Add "Water World" Planet (WW)
a. High Food Resource (61-80), Low People(11-20), low ore (11-20), and low dilithium (11-20)
b. Reason: Adds high food resource body; single high resource bodies already exist for people, ore, and dilithium but not for food.

2. Add "hydrogen cloud" area terrain.
a. Description: Area contains high concentration of gaseous hydrogen mixed with deuterium and dilithium.
b. Entry Effects:
(1) Ships entering these hexes have their speed boosted to "6" for 3 turns.
(2) If the ship has a legendary science or engineering officer, effect is permanent.
(3) Andromedans take moderate damage.
c. Combat effects:
(1) Both attacker and defender have shields reduced to zero. Ships with no shields take moderate damage before any combat resolution.
(2) Any combat immediately nullifies entry effects permanently.
(3) Any combat immediately reduces prospecting value to zero.
d. Prospecting value is medium however prospecting permanently nullifies all entry and combat effects. Note: Another possibility is to have prospecting yield medium DC only along with entry & combat effects nullification.

Any comments?

I like the WW idea. The resources for PE, OR, and DC should probably be more like 1-5. Generally the Food resource is the most heavily used resource which makes it a shortage in most cases. I am used to it and never thought there was a problem till now. I wonder if this was the original design spec or oversight.

For the Hydrogen cloud I am not so certain. The program initially does Entry effects before combat. Now you are asking to add code to look ahead. The new code could add addition functionality though. How would you handle the entry effects on a bounce? Are you saying the entry effects could effect a whole fleet? Are they only found in wild sectors? This area terrain seems too potent. Try adding +1 speed boost for X turns only if you have a science officer on the ship.

By James E. Jarema (Nuke) on Friday, April 13, 2007 - 03:32 pm: Edit

On the WW, I could live with that.

On the hydrogen cloud, my thought was to provide a HIGHLY potent yet HIGHLY valuable terrain with a benefit not to destroy in combat or exhaust it permanently by prospecting. The first weapon fire, no matter how small, would detonate the cloud either through bounce or actual entry would render it permanently unusable and a moderate damage level applied to all both in actual combat or a probing bounce. The entry effect would be for an entire fleet because all nacelles would ingest the highly enriched cloud hydrogen at the same time. The boost would also only be temporary, lasting only as long a supply of the cloud material remained on-board or unless a legendary engineer or science officer could make a permanent modification to the drive system. I look at the effects as similar to getting a better temporary output in performance by injecting nitrous oxide into an internal combustion engine or a car getting a "boost" from a tank of "high test" gas when it is used to "regular". As long as the cloud was not exhausted by prospected or detonated in combat, it would renew itself for later use by other ships. I'd say that this is a wild sector only terrain due to the potentcy. I wanted to create a turf that is too valuable to exhaust permanently by prospecting or by combat. Walk on eggshells in this terrain. It's a two edged sword. If you want to keep using it, defend at a distance. Another look would be as an active oil field of "Light, sweet"; you need to hold on to it and use the output of it yet you don't want to be in a shooting war in the middle of it; the results of an errant shot are devastating.
