Indeed I did, good sirrah.
Meanwhile, I ordered one of all of them but the BB; highest quality, slowest processing.

My four 1:7000 Hydran sprues showed up today, and they are simply splendid.

Glad to hear it. Hope the sprue was not excessive. ;)

Any word on the last 1:7000 Hydran sprue (the one with the Pegasus, Gendarme, Tug, etc in it)?

I think that one will be 1 July.

The question of course is which Pegasus to use as the "base hull" for this. We can't really use the PFT, so I'm probably going to go with the CL version unless Steve tells me differently.
By Richard Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Sunday, May 31, 2020 - 08:29 pm: Edit |
I think the base hull for the Pegasus is either the scout or the cargo ship (cargo ship came out during 4PW or prior).
The CL Pegasus was a one shot built during the general war that was destroyed in its first battle.

Those look like good sprues.
And Chris, Richard has the right of it; the original Pegasus Scout (R9.128) is probably the way to go there.

I don't think we have done any scouts for 1/7000 yet. The intent has been to stick to base-hulls and avoid the issues that come with variants.

In the case of the Pegasus, the scout *was* the base hull. It was designed by the Guilds in Y145 for customs inspections, traffic control, etc. Later along, the same hull wound up as a true carrier in Y166, a "flagship cruiser" (another single example in Y172), a light cruiser (with a single example in Y173), a survey cruiser in Y174, a commando scout in Y178, the well-known PF tender role in Y180, and an advanced PF tender in Y190. All but two of those hulls have scout sensors.

But the point is that the sensor dishes won’t print in 7000 so the PEGASUS on that collection will be the cruiser.

Surprising (given how well the hellbore cannons printed at that scale), but entirely fair.
By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Tuesday, June 02, 2020 - 12:47 pm: Edit |
Sensor dishes have bitten us, even at 1/3125-scale.
By Chris Nasipak (Ecs05norway) on Tuesday, June 02, 2020 - 02:01 pm: Edit |
I still need to sculpt the scout anyway, so I'll try a 7k test print of it with my next shapeways order and we'll see if the dishes print.
By Steven Zamboni (Szamboni) on Tuesday, June 02, 2020 - 05:40 pm: Edit |
The Kzinti ears survived downsizing in decent shape, but they are pretty stocky as sensor dishes.

So, yeah, just tried a test upload with a stand and a bit of framework, Shapeways claims it'll print in Smooth Detail or PA12, no complaints at all.
How well that holds up in actual practice, or a full sprue... we'll see.
