Stew, I believe the question is related to will the minis of the DNH or CVA fit inside the mini of the FRD.

If we presume the upper struts are on rails and the side arms are hinged, it possible the FRD has a limited ability resize itself to fit over ships of different sizes.
Scale is going to be an issue when it comes printing these, though. The cost of printing a dock that's able to snap over a 3125 Paladin is going to be staggering. There's also going to be technical issues if the other ship already had a stand.
(And I really don't see Jean reacting well to each empire needing multiple docks - that could be one of those shallow-grave-in-the-desert moments.)

I think if you run scenarios with a FRD, you could probably have a 1/7000 mini inside the Omni scale dock!
I don't know if you want to indicate such hinges and extenders as such, Chris. Without having them working, of course!

The pre-existing FRD line-art shows a lot of grid-work that are clearly sections where it can expand or contract to fit the ship(s) it is currently servicing.
Making it large enough to fit a CA in -- as shown in the first renderings -- puts the printing price at about the same as said cruiser.
Will the model, as currently sculpted, fit a same-scale Paladin DN? Not exactly. Just barely not. It's about 2mm too narrow in 3788 scale for the rear end of the DN to fit in. If you wanted to make a static display model you could easily cut the FRD struts at one end and reglue them, or if you printed it in Versatile Plastic it might be flexible enough to be stretched around it.
(Actually you could probably wiggle it enough to get it in, with the open space at the bottom. It -will- fit once you get it past that single hangup of getting the aft past the struts.)
(If Steve or Jean wants me to expand it to fit one, I'll do it.)

I've just realised that a comment I made on April 9th to widen the wedge shaped crew module to resemble ship centre hulls would have been great, IF this had been a Lyran FRD!
DOH! Carry on.
