Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: Shapeways Project: Shapeways Store: Request and Suggestions for Shapeways Shop: Archive through July 30, 2020
By Steven Zamboni (Szamboni) on Thursday, July 23, 2020 - 05:15 pm: Edit

Internal box count is an issue with the monitor. There are larger destroyers. The "Omni" monitor is sized as a large 3788 with the volume calculated on a spreadsheet to match other Federation ships. A 3125 version is going to be only marginally larger.

Another option may be to go hog wild on a palleted version with a PFT or SCS support pallet. This might allow a bigger mini without dealing with the booth time that comes with requesting a second set of "Super Omni" listings.

By Nick Samaras (Koogie) on Friday, July 24, 2020 - 03:07 pm: Edit

The solution here is simple. Just make a 1/2500 monitor that can be repurposed by the 1/3125 crowd :)

I would like to request individual detached federation pods please. Also the fed LTT with no pods. Thank you.

What scale?

By Aaron Staley (Awwwdrat) on Sunday, July 26, 2020 - 02:01 pm: Edit

Im a 3788 guy.

I am not certain what tugs and pods exist, but if not done so far, it is up to Jean to decide if the potential market is worth her time. It takes about five sales per item to pay for the set up cost, so if only one person wants one model we would lose money doing it. IF Jean thinks it is worth her time then she can ask the sculptor ( in this case Will) if he would consider doing it. Even if he will, it may not be the highest priority item. Stay tuned for her answer.

By John Pepper (Akula) on Monday, July 27, 2020 - 12:29 am: Edit

Still a couple I would like to see for the Federation:
Medium Cruiser - R12
Deckhouse Destroyer - CL33 looks cool in Master Ship Book
Heavy Destroyer - CL33 looks cool in Master Ship Book
Modular Light Dreadnought

By Aaron Staley (Awwwdrat) on Monday, July 27, 2020 - 01:34 am: Edit

I also want what John Pepper wants. As to what I requested, not a big hurry; i have plenty to do until they make it into the store.

I do not have any problem with Will doing those four ships but I suspect it would be one per month.

Could someone do a Bampton Stewpot or a Griswold skillet?

By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Monday, July 27, 2020 - 06:49 pm: Edit

Too small to render in 3788 or 3125.

Perhaps it should be included as part of the GURPS miniatures line. If you do add either the Brampton Stewpot or a Griswold skillet, would it be too much to ask for the field launcher? Not everyone has Jeans arm or ability to adjust her wrist at ***just*** the right angle to maximize the impact.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, July 27, 2020 - 07:52 pm: Edit

I would think that the 1/72 adventure scale would work.

By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Monday, July 27, 2020 - 10:43 pm: Edit

Might want to reconsider that...

If Jean insists that the launcher must be staffed by her loyal and hard working Fralli minions, 1/72 scale is just large enough for people to make out just how ugly the figures are.

Plus, for the miniatures to generate the Fralli electrical abilities, you will have to include 6 or so of the tiny lithium batteries. I suspect the costs will limit the potential sales.

Why not make a Cast Iron Skillet shaped Fralli Starship :)

By Matthew Lawson (Mglawson) on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 - 05:13 pm: Edit

How about a pancake/waffle pattern shaped like a Fralli face...once you get past the initial gag reflex and cover them with syrup, they'll be edible.

Im still tuned in for an answer. Still no hurry.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 - 06:29 pm: Edit

Jean says separate pods don't sell enough to be worth doing, but you can ask her directly for more details.

As for Pepper's list of four ships, Will may do all of them, some of them, or none of them, and we won't know until he does them. But I would be hopeful to see all four by Christmas. I would comment that being nice to Will speeds up Fed ship production and being nasty to him delays it.

The nature of the beast is that we don't answer requests in real time. It may be weeks or months before a given item gets to the top of a given sculptor's work list.

By Aaron Staley (Awwwdrat) on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 - 11:03 pm: Edit

Not interested in the details. Its kitbash time again.

By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 - 03:14 pm: Edit

Might want to consider a few pods “that never were”

For example,

1) a flat bed carrier pod (CVA pod type) that had a balcony system just as the DN style CVN carrier had.

2) a Federation PF pod with two (Or more.) PF repair bays. (Hypothetical since the Federation did not build or use PFs.)

3) a Fralli carrier pod that carry’s multiple squadrons of Fralli shuttles. (Just how you would make it ugly is an open question...)

4) a FCR pod for delivery of fighters and crated fighters to the front lines. For giggles and grins, assume it will qualify as a legal carrier escort under the published rules.

5) a FRD pod (smaller size). Double weight pod, call it a lite FRD able to be transported by a TT class tug. Perhaps able to repair Size class 3 or smaller hulls. Possibly used to recover saucer sections.

I know it seems that we are focussing on federation ships right now, but where do we stand on the request for a Klingon B9 fast battleship? I would love to see that done by shapeways in fine detail 1/3125 scale. It should not be too hard for the original maker of the B10 1/3125 miniature to make the necessary adjustments to make the B9 fast battleship, should it? Is this at all possible, sometime in the fo Il uture.? I love that ship, and I’m hoping that this is a possibility. If there’s anything I can do to help make this a possibility, I would be willing to help this process along for sure! But as a patient lover of gaming with miniatures I can take it if this is not going to happen anytime soon as I do have other scenarios to play in the meantime, LOL.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 - 05:57 pm: Edit

I believe that Will has the B9 on his list.

By Art Trotman (Drneuro3) on Thursday, July 30, 2020 - 12:28 am: Edit

SVC-thanks!

By Aaron Staley (Awwwdrat) on Thursday, July 30, 2020 - 07:09 am: Edit

What! The B9 isnt done yet?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, July 30, 2020 - 10:37 am: Edit

I assume not, but did anyone look in the store? (I did, and didn't see it there.)
