Worlds of Unions

I am not sure; this may have been released.

Have we released the Helgardians or do I need to post them?

I don't hit these threads that often, but I am pretty sure the Helgardians haven't been either posted or released yet.

At this point, none of the four playtest Triangulum Galaxy empires have yet been added to the Shapeways storefront.

For anyone wondering what the Triangulum setting is all about, three playtest empires (the Helgardians, Arachnids, and Mallarans) are in SFB Module E2; a fourth playtest power, the Imperium, is previewed in Captain's Log #23; while there is an ongoing discussion for all things M33-related in this thread - where a link to a substantial errata PDF dating from 2011 can be found.

Of those, the Worlds of Union(s) are formed by the Arachnids, a half-inch-sized species of parasitic life forms which can attach themselves to the brain stems of humanoid hosts. The "unions" stem from the hybrid personalities which emerge with each new assimilation, as well as the psionic network which links all Arachnids together. However, the strain of Arachnid assimilation tends to cause a given host to die of exhaustion after only a few years. As a result, the Arachnids are always in the market for new host species...

The Dragon CA shown above seems to match the SSD well enough, though I'm not quite sure if the centre pair of light pulse phasers has a clear 360* firing arc. (Unlike, say, the discrete armour belts shown on Trobrin Empire miniatures, the FH and RH banks of micro-thin Neutronium armour would be embedded within the hull itself, so probably don't need any kind of outward representation.)

I will get the Helgies posted, and Matt Lawson can do the other two any time he wants.

I didn't get to send the Helgardians or Worlds of Union to Jean last month, I'll get them to her this weekend. I'm still adjusting the Imperium and Mallaran to print in all materials.

I really would like Triangulum.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, February 19, 2021 - 09:19 am: Edit

Matt is doing them. Some done already.

Maghadim. I like them.

The ships from the Helgardians are posted. The ships from the Arachnid Worlds of Union are in hand.

Yes, Maghadim please.

I've been working on the Eneen and Jumokians. Maghadim and Baduvai are on the table.

Truth is that my sculpting program does not deal well with flowing, organic shapes. I'm learning a lot more about the process than I have in the past (it took me three months to get the Pegasus to what it would become, these are much more complex).

So, long term answer: Can do.

Short term answer: I'm working on it.

One concern I might have as regards the Lesser Magellanic Cloud empires is the potential scaling issue surrounding the civilian and military Pinnaces.

On the one hand, a Pinnace pack has to be large enough to also fit on a Jumokian pirate vessel. On the other hand, the engines of the Pinnaces themselves have to be small enough to also be used for Baduvai Interceptors and gunboats. (The Baduvai INT uses Civilian Pinnace engines, whereas the PF uses Military Pinnace engines.)

Speaking of the Jumokians, it would be interesting to see what kind of design evolution there might be between their "middle years" hulls (the FF, DD, and CL) and their "new" counterparts (the NDD in Module C5, pus the NFF and NCL in Captain's Log #48).

By Chris Nasipak (Ecs05norway) on Saturday, March 06, 2021 - 09:01 pm: Edit

Pinnace packs: I'm solving this by simply not assuming that the pack is directly visible on the miniature. It's embedded in a specially-shaped section of hull designed to accept it and link it into the ship's systems, enclose it in the hull, etc. So a pack on an actual pinnace will be smaller, if of similar proportions and general shape.

Neo-Jumokians: Oh, definitely. There will be differences, and similarities. Haven't designed these yet, but they're coming. I would also like to do a set of proper "major empire" Jumokians, with proper cruisers, destroyers, etc, rather than cobbled-together like Archaeo-Tholians.

So here's a Jumokian Frigate for you to savor.

And some Eneen:

Heavy Cruiser
Light Cruiser
Destroyer

Just a thought, Pinnace Pack can be a fixed height X Width, and a variable length. Later ship ones may simply be to heavy for pinnances to move.
