I'll start off.
One of my favorite things to do is to put number markers on top of fleet counters to indicate the total ship equivalent count for a fleet. (Markers are chits that are deletable but can't be put into the fleet trays.) It's hard to do this in FTF play, so this represents a nice advantage in CB play. You can see at a glance what the SE count is in any given theater.
I use yellow numbers to indicate ship count, red numbers to indicate fighter factors or cripples that don't add up to a full SE, and a blue "1" if there is a half fighter factor present. It's useful to track the fractions this way, as sometimes fleets may combine such that fractions add up to another SE.
All of my opponents at least don't object to this scheme (which I think Rob Padilla introduced to me) and I have found it quite handy.

Ted has a nice usage, but I like to put comments on counters by double-clicking on them and putting the information there. Keeps the board neater and you can still see the information presented. I also put the ships in a fleet in those notes.
Different strokes for different folks. Ted's method works well, mine does also.

Agreed - Mike's method works great too. The reason why I prefer my method is that you can't *see* all of the numbers at a glance at the board - with Mike's method you have to run the cursor over the counters to see the information. Of course, Mike's method is much cleaner on the map and uses fewer mouse clicks. Like he said - boils down to personal preference.

I use both.
But then, I use F&E as a campaign system, so the text I put on a ship counter (for example) is useful in the "operational" (for lack of a better term) level - where each hex is zoomed in on, as well as the tactical (SFB) level.
Cyberboard is clearly an excellent platform for my needs, and the map is out of this world awesome!

When using the D or C markers for Devastated or Captured Planets you can also use a number marker to be changed each turn or the text box to record the first turn that a planet has been devastate or captured for the purposes of recovery or long term capture and annexation.

Maybe add a "Graveyard" fleet to all races, so their dead can be placed there and more easily organized than the big boxes on the right side of the map.
Use the empires index counter tray to store your dead. You can even add a note as to when and where they died. Makes a nice history to review and you can graphically see how things are going with ship losses.

Maybe make a Klingon Black Fleet marker and tray. :p

I can make the marker easy enough...
Mike C uses the National Header as the dead tray.
Example of Fed header:

What I have done is create a game out of the game box.
Open the Map so it can be seen.
Then under the "Edit" tab is the option to "Save Board Image in File" - this creates at .BMP file that can be converted to a .JPEG file using a normal paint program.
You can then either import it into another software and create a .PDF or just print it as a .JPEG image.

Does anyone know if you can revert a game to a previous move file after you have already accepted/saved a move file?
By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 - 08:02 pm: Edit |
You may but it might be a lengthy process
I am home if you want to chat. We can discuss things in generalities if it involves the game I am in.

Q) Having now a duel monitor setup, I have accidentally moved Tray A partly off screen and cannot seem to figure out how to move it anymore (it's about halfway through the top of my screen).
Anyone know how to fix this?
A)
As for the issue to the tray itself I have done that. Along the edge of the tray (the area that gives you the double arrow to alter size). Move your mouse slightly inward so that you are in the white area between the edge and the contents of the tray. Left click, you should then see the mouse pointer change into a 4 direction arrow. When you do, drag the tray down until you see it all again.

I have also seen this issue Lawrence, though I have 4 monitors. I have actually seen parts of Cyberboard completely disappear from the screen, even after resolution changes, due to me connecting remotely with 1 monitor from work.
So, as a tip, I'll say that cyberboard saves those windows locations in the registry at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CyberBoard V3.00\CyberBoard Player
You can delete the whole key and restart the app and it'll reset all the windows back to their default locations.
If it happens a lot to you, as it did me, you can create a ResetCyberboard.Reg file with everything after the semicolon as content (you may have to change the version #):
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CyberBoard V3.00\CyberBoard Player]

Is the 9/7/2014 gamebox still the newest version?

Yes it is. Work is proceeding on a new version of the game box file.

Neophyte question...
Is there a tutorial for Cyberboard, and if so where ??

Marker: Map-Combat
The Markers in Map-Combat tray contain a ton of very useful ones for the battleforce charts. They include but are not limited to leaders, ad-hocs, and various EW levels. Unlike the fighter markers which can get it in the way if you leave them on the battleforce charts, these you should leave on the battleforce charts. Just group the like ones and stack them to take up less space. That way you have them available each time you use that battleforce board. They give you a handy reference to what's a leader, what EW level you have for the dial an EW units as well what EW level you SC is at. There are also markers to tell you which ships are frozen from an SFG attack or which ships are in the web.

Counter Text Edits
Some of the counters in the Cyberboard GameBox were created by us for this game with text. Mainly this is for labeling, reminders, and easy identification when the map is in the zoomed out view. Some of the counters have text we used internally for counting whats in the box (counters made for use in the fleet trays are limited in number).
Players can change the text in the CBdesign or CBPlay (in the scenario). I am diligent in using this for fleet counters in games to provide quick Ship Equivalents counts that will pop-up for me and my opponents.
In CBPlay players would:
- Click on the counter and Edit Text replacing the text with blank space to delete text.
NOTE: There is a default 'x' that will remain as a reminder of text even when blank when you click on or hover over the counter in a game.
To make the text disappear completely, players will need to:
- Open up the gamebox in the CBDesign.exe.
- Highlight the counter name in question under the Playing Pieces Groups.
- Double click on the counter.
- Delete the unwanted text and click ok.
- Then save the gamebox.
This may be done in a gamebox supporting an active game as long as you don't move a counter or delete a counter in the gamebox. Nothing should change in games using that current gamebox, if you are nervous archive (save) a copy before you start
