Also, just checked, you can hit 'Recapture' immediately to fix the reporting, you don't have to flag it to anything else first.

If anybody remembers were else I stockpiled Xoraelian ship names, let me know. I found a few places and combined them into a file on my hard disk.

Hi James, I'd love to get a copy of the latest and greatest module you have been working on. Thanks!

Darin,

It's at the top of this page.

Rindis,

I have F&E 2.0 module and noticed some missing ME ships are you working any further on this project?

I am looking at adding the ME pieces, and doing some optimization of the Traits, adding movement trails.

do you keep a development branch that I can submit to?

Thanks,
-E

Found an error in the vassal module.

I’m setting up a GW scenario on the Large Scale and the Kzinti VP pods only show 2 fighter factors in the properties rather than the 3 they are supposed to have.

Huh, yeah.

I'll get that fixed in the module.

However, you can change that on any existing pods by calling up the Property sheet, and right-clicking on the tick-boxes. When it says '2/2' just enter '3' and hit okay. (Expand the properties box a bit before right-clicking; it's not displaying properly if you do it after, though it is technically fine.)

James!

So here is a thing that happened. I'm playing a game of F+E for a few months now in a game that is using the F+E 1.3.1 version of the module. Everything was working great. Until I updated my system today to Mac OS 10.13 (High Sierra, the precious name of which makes me want to punch it in the face even more). I updated my java to make Vassal work. I updated my Vassal to version 3.2.17. Vassal opens, the game module opens, the game save file opens. Everything looks great.

Except that now, for reasons beyond my understanding, I can no longer move ship counters out of fleet boxes. I can put ship counters *into* fleet boxes. I can move ships around inside fleet boxes. I can move ships from one fleet box to another using the "send to" command. I can delete ships from fleet boxes, and then recreate them on the map from the "Ship" menu. I just can't select individual (or stacks of) ship counters and drag them out of the fleet box onto the map.

I realize that the answer is probably "Use F+E module 2.0", but, well, the game is already underway on module 1.3.1, and games from 1.3.1 don't work on 2.0.

Any ideas on how to possibly fix this? Or am I completely hosed, and this game is over, unless I want to painstakingly recreate it, counter by counter, in 2.0?

This is a Mac+Java+Vassal problem that cropped up earlier this year.

There's an old version of Java (8u112) and a testing version of Java (8u152 b05) that will work right.

See the thread here:

http://www.vassalengine.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9762

And the second half of that page should talk about what you need to do.

Yaa! James! You saved me!

So I had to go to that link, follow some instructions to go into Terminal and delete my current Java JRE, then downloaded and installed a newer, beta test JRE (8u152). Which wasn't too difficult. And it remains to be seen what collateral damage the new, new Java JRE will do to the rest of my machine (so far, this process has wiped out all of my saved passwords in my browser, and also, apparently, Chrome will no longer operate the new, new version of JRE, which I'm unsure what effect that will have...)

But the F+E crops are saved!

Thanks!

1. I would like to see the fleet boxes expanded by 1 column and 1 row. Some of the late war stuff really starts to add up and it's hard to get all the stuff into the current one and it still be legible.

2. The Lyran CLS and CLG need to be moved from the CapLog/extras (can't remember what its called) to the main module. They were added in FO16.

3. The reserve fleet boxes with a fleet display like either the capital charts or the battle mat so it's harder to screw up how much you can put in a reserve fleet.

Concur with Ryan on all three points.

By James Lowry (Rindis) on Friday, December 01, 2017 - 08:41 pm: Edit

#2 and #3 are already done in my working copy of 2.1. On #1... the current idea is to do exactly that... for the Home Fleets. Everything else stays at the current size for screen real estate, but there's still one big box for cases like the Kzinti, where everything tends to sit together.

And since I'm here:
I want everyone who uses the module to "Save As" here, and open the module in Vassal. This is a current working/test copy, and I need to know one thing in particular:

Go to Scenarios -> Large Map -> Base Setup.

How long does it take to open? Can you see the sector borders correctly? Hit the "Controls" button, and right click on the buttons there. Turn Sectors off an on. Turn Cordons on and off. Did everything display, how was the response time?

By Ryan Opel (Ryan) on Friday, December 01, 2017 - 08:55 pm: Edit

With the Empire Ships, Fleets, Location Summary. Since that reads the map is there any way to kick that out to a text file?

By Ryan Opel (Ryan) on Friday, December 01, 2017 - 08:56 pm: Edit

Check the Tholian setup in the large scale 601.0 setup. The fleets are in the wrong areas.

By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Saturday, December 02, 2017 - 01:55 am: Edit

The game takes a reasonable amount of time to open.

A cordon line in Hydran space ends abruptly between 1115 and 1116.

Nice job James!

By Ryan Opel (Ryan) on Saturday, December 02, 2017 - 03:41 pm: Edit

Game loads much faster than the current module. I was able to get the sector and cordon borders to both turn on and off.

I loaded our current game with the new module and it loaded much quicker than the current module.

Only two issues:

1. We have the extras mod that it couldn't find it but since the ships we had to load with the extras are in the base module now it shouldn't make a difference.

2. Did you rename a Fleet in the Feds? Says it couldn't find TF Kosnet and Admiral Kosnet's Flying Squadron.

Can you do missions for Fed SWACs like you have for the Prime Teams?

By James Lowry (Rindis) on Monday, December 04, 2017 - 12:41 am: Edit

Location reports: No, I don't think I can turn that into a text file, but I'll double-check.

I need to re-do the setup for the new OoB, but I'll try to remember to check the Tholians particularly.

In the actual scenario set up, the Vudar overlays should be in place, and the Cordon line ends where it does because that's where the Vudar are.

It... shouldn't load an old scenario faster, but okay. The extension folder has to have a name that matches the file name, so it can't find the old one. I'll be providing a new set with the full package when done.

Well, right now, we just label it... but that's a good idea. I'll try to work something out. How do the PT missions look to everyone, by the way?

By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Monday, December 04, 2017 - 12:50 am: Edit

Not quite what you've been working on; have you done any work on Carnivons or Paravians?

By James Lowry (Rindis) on Monday, December 04, 2017 - 12:52 am: Edit

Oh, missed the Kosnett bit; yes I did. From the changelog:
* Fleets 'TF Kosnett' and 'Adm Kosnett's FS' now have his name spelled correctly

Note that this *is* a test module. The actual release will have a few warnings attached, that being one of them.
