A4 is done. A few minor skirmishes, nothing really noteworthy.

The alliance pulls back to the capitals (a few ships are at EXP SB and an FF is in 1801). The Hydrans set up a small reserve offmap (and a larger one in 0617 which will just get pinned), the Kzinti put two small reserves (51 total compot offmap).

The Klingons sent 14 ships to ensure that the Marquis' area is cut off from the offmap. Too much for me to send my reserves to. On the bright side, the fight in the capital is very even without the defenses (85 SE (516-578) plus 91 fighters vs 100 SE (606-638) plus 36 fighters), so depending on how much I direct and how much I'm willing to cripple I should be able to hold it another round, especially as I still have 3PDUs and a SB. He does have 3D6M, so it might be pretty close.

In operational movement, the Klingons attacked 1401 (pinnng all the units there) and sent enough to 1502 to capture it even if the reserves show, and enough to 1701 to force the Kzinti to fleet if reserves show.

A lot of Coalition ships were left unmoved in this theatre.

In the Hydran theatre, the Coalition again pinned all the ships at the capital, sent a force to kill 0716 and to capture 0718 (Hydraxaport) which still has 4 PDU. They also sent forces to 0416 (which will be captured (even if the o\ffmap reserve of LM 2TG LN SC) show up. A small force went to 0519 .

The Coalition cut off the offmap from the Hydran capital again.

Ah, so I do. But the Hydran offmap isn't cut off! I have a supply route through 0119-0219-0319-0419-0519 and then from there to 0618-0617.

C5 combat is complete, and just retrogrades and the like remain for the turn. Both the Kzinti and the Hydrans hold onto their capitals but little else. The Hydrans still have 11 PDUs over Hydrax, and the Kzinti just have their starbase.

On A5 I don't foresee them having anything really to hit. The Hydrans will just have to try to keep their supply open and, failing that, decide how much they're willing to risk when the coalition takes down their capital. They have about 2PAL LB 2LM 6DG 7RN 2TR HR 3KN 7LN 4CR 9CU 10HN 3SC 2TG (59 ships) in the capital (plus 4 ships outside of the capital that can make it).

Really, they'd like to not lose the capital next turn so they can build a third PAL, but I'm not sure whether that's reasonable as a capital that's devastated aside from Hydrax only produces 12 EPs (+1 or 2 for the province it resides in).

You could use Orion smuggling to send EP from off-map to the Capital on A5 to support A6 production if you think there is a good chance of holding on (or to support rapid combat repair if there isn't). Or a blockade run from offmap if you still have a strat node somewhere is Western Hydran space.

I don't think you can merely transport EPs via Orion smuggling, you have to buy something. I could be wrong.

Re: Orion smuggling. Hmm. 410.341 seems fairly clear that smuggling is used only for expenses at the moment of payment, but 511.352 indicates that Orion smuggling can be used to simply move EPs without expenditure. Possibly 511.352 is a special case?

Well, it's just a straight loss if I save income and lose the capital, but smuggling is definitely a possibility. I'm pretty sure the Hydrans are happy building Paladins for 19. I hadn't considered smuggling. Can't I move it to the capital during A6 production (if I go that route)?

On the other hand, the Hydrans have a fair number of EPs for A5 production and saving 3 EPs probably wouldn't be a real issue.

I'm willing to accept that you can use Orion smuggling to move EPs between main shipyards. I would suggest that we go with this idea: EPs can only be moved (by Orion smuggling) during operational and strategic movement in this way (applies to EPs not being spent, except where explicitly stated otherwise in the existing rules).

So the Coalition end turn 5. They start sending some ships to the Fed border. The Hydrans are down to one PDU on Hydramax or Anthraxan (I forget which) the other has no PDUs, both are undevastated. The minors in those systems are devastated. The minor in the Hydrax system has its 2 PDUs. Hydrans still have 0519 with 2 PDUs, the other two on map planets are captured.

All Kzinti space in play is captured or disrupted, except 1401 (Kzintai is undevastated but has no PDU) they do have a SB there.

The Coalition have two decent reserves in 1402, a good and a bad one in 1407, two good reserves and a small one in 1013. The Klingons got 20 EP from the Lyrans and are around 15 EP in the treasury (the Lyrans have around 5-6).

The Hydrans have 15 EP offmap, the Kzintis have no real treasury atm (a few EP at the Marquise partial grid).

A5 Movement is done. Both the Hydrans and the Kzinti will be killing a few province raiders. The Kzinti will also be fighting a few larger fights where they might be able to trade a few frigates for larger ships. The Hydrans are in a few fights where they can fight a round and retreat - but I don't think I really want those fights if I want to hold the capital. :/

There are fights over every planet the Coalition hold and the Alliance can reach, but the only one that I might win is 1502.

A5 is over!

The Hydrans did well, trading CU CR for E4 D5 FF. Not a huge achievement, but positive. The coalition also have a few cripples (3cw e4a), while the Hydrans have no new ones. The Kzinti made a few mistakes. While they didn't lose too many ships, they had a bunch of ships crippled that they really shouldn't have.

Overall, I'm in a better position than I expected to be in at this point. Richard is making me work for every (minor) victory, and has been very gracious when I make mistakes.

C6 is progressing, I'll post eco later.

Coalition movement saw large fleets stack on 1401 and 0617. The Hydran offmap was cut off (and reserves blocked from coming on map) and a few Hydran pickets destroyed.

*The Kzintis had no ships outside 1401 or the Marquise area and had no reserves (I suppose they could have made the Marquise ships into reserves).

Combat is still ongoing, 1401 was captured by the Coalition.

The Kzinti crippled everything I thought they could afford to cripple before letting their SB go down - 3 CV groups, DN, 3BC, TG+2BP, 2CC. They also lost a DN, a CLE, and an EFF (total repair cost: 30). This does mean that the Kzinti should be able to harass the Coalition effectively next turn (I might not be making many repairs until A8, when I can pay with Fed money).

I might have directed too much, though, as the Klingons still have a relatively intact fleet for attacking the Federation on C7 if they want to.

I don't think I have an accurate count of the coalition crippled ships, but the repair bill is low - at least 24, but possibly not much more.

Overall, though, the Kzinti were a little favoured by the dice (3.44 vs 4 average), and I think it went about as well as it could have.
