I have an old version where at least the rulebook was 8.5x11". The SSDs are all looseleaf in different sizes (nothing but the ships themselves) and paperclipped together.

C6 Raids
7 total normal raids; 4 in ZTO; 3 in HTO. All but 1 in the ZTO succeeds. No meaningful casualties.
Lyrans use APT to blockade run a PT to a fleet who will use it this turn.
Klingons blockade run 10 EPs from the WYN bank account using a TGC (9 from their own account, 1 transferred from the Lyran account).

C6 Operational movement
Fairly simple; not much to do.
ZTO: Rob has two very powerful reserves (15 SEQ each) offmap. So, I attack 1504 and 1506 with overwhelming force even though both planets only have RDFs on them (about 45-50 SEQ each). I plant the bulk of the rest of the Klingon fleet (along with some of the heaviest Lyrans) in 1705 (Duke's Hold) and decline to attack, the Marquis SB early. I do not attack anywhere else.
HTO: My mobile bases at 916 come online. Rob has two very powerful reserves, one offmap and the other at 617 (like 18 SEQ each). I pin 617 with enough units that he cannot release the reserve there by virtue of moving the offmap reserve to the capital. I then attack Expediionary Starbase at 716 and the major planet a 718 with overwheling force. I attack 519 with 9 ships, more than enough for the MON and 2 PDU there.
Up in Lyran space I take out the Hydran trash and escort the remaining protesters out the airlock.

C6 Combat:
The ZTO is all pro-forma, because Rob holds his reserves offmap. I take the two planets without a die roll. That was easy. This turn.
The HTO saw a lot more fireworks. The offmap reserve went to 519, guaranteeing some serious Klingon casualties.
SB 716 went down after several rounds of fighting. I take some cripples, he takes a few kills and a few cripples. Nothing that serious, but at least 716 will never come out again.
Hydran BATS 114 and 315 are now gone. The Hydrans now have no more on-map BATS. Starbases 215 and 617 remain on-map.
Planet 718 goes down, crippling a few ships along the way.
Planet 518 sees the Klingons self-killing a D7 and a D6 due to the annoying amount of damage done (it really was my best option). I'm OOS, due to Rob's clever use of retreats, so no depot or salvage (again). West fleet (7 SEQ) is forced into a small pocket surrounded by Hydrans on all sides - and will be OOS again at the beginning of A6.
The Hydran capital assault goes for a several rounds and sees plenty of fighting. Over some 8-10 rounds (can't remember) I strip all remaining outer PDUs and devastate all outer planets. However, I do not approach the frightening monster that is now Hydrax Major.
Tale of the Tape:
Hydran KIA, most of it directed: LB, HR, 2*KN, MON, 2*BATS, 10*PDU, 1 major planet captured, 2 major and 3 minor devastatted.
Hydran WIA (includes some fighting retreat victims from A5): 2*SA, 3*CU, AH, HNG, LN, KN.
Klingon KIA: D7, D6, D6J, D6M, D7A, D6G.
Klingon WIA: 2*D6M, D6, 2*D5, 6*F5, TGA+BB, D5V, CVT, 2*D6V, 3*AD5, 3*F5E, 2*E4A.
Lyran KIA: None
Lyran WIA: CC, CF, CL, 2*DD, SC.

C6 End of Turn:
FTO: I've setup for a potential C7 attack. I have 69 Klingons and 13 Lyrans in 1705. I have 11 Klingons in 1809, and another 54 in 2416. That's 147 SEQ, not counting anything built/activated on C7.
ZTO: I left 31 SEQ (29 Klingons) in 1506, 46 Lyrans on SB 1202, plus a 13 SEQ good Lyran reserve in 1202. I still outpin him in the theater by an amount, but given the space I could not protect everything. He can cause some harm this turn, but any real harm is likely to cause him to draw out his two very powerful reserves offmap - and honestly I'm not sure if he's going to see more value in leaving them offmap for A6 reserves. We'll see. I also move all 7 of my FRDs at 1013: 2 to 1509 and the rest to 1214.
HTO: Lyran cripples in Lyran space retro to the capital or BATS 109. A few heavies retro to MB 916. 3*FF also go to BATS 109.
Most of my forces remain highly forward deployed (heaviest fleets at 717 at his doorstep). I have 35 SEQ at the MBs at 916, including a 12 SEQ Lyran reserve and three tiny Klingon reserves (3, 1, and 1 SEQ respectively). I only wanted a few specialty Klingon ships going to the HTO; the rest went to the Southern Federation border). I have 16 SEQ of veterans of the SB 716 battle. The cripples went back to BATS 1214 where I have the FRD park. It is untouchable by the Hydrans on A6. I also used strategic movement to transfer a bunch of Lyran AUX CVs from 1202 to 1214. A few crappy FFs and crippled units hold down the Hydran hinterlands provinces; he could kill one or two with raids.
Crystal Ball here is a bit easier. With a big SEQ advantage I have him pinned more or less to the capital. I expect another token SB defense force at 215, a few random defenders at 416 and 519, and the bulk of his navy in 617. He'll no doubt have another decent offmap reserve on A6. I doubt he will be able to do anything other than be annoying on A6, but we'll see.

Any explanations on those circled numbers (fleet markers, NZs) and the various red 'C's??
By Rob Padilla (Zargan) on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 - 10:08 pm: Edit |
Little circle numbers are ship counts. Top number is full SEs, second number is left over fighter factors, third number is half fighter factors.
The Cs I think are Teds way of tracking colonial development. Once there are 3, the Colony marker gets placed.

Convert 2 MB CAs to GSCs (10 EPs)
Reform a ComCon (5 EPs)
Convert a CA to GSC from Home Fleet (5 EPs)
15 EPs remain in the Treasury

Neutral planet conversions.
By Rob Padilla (Zargan) on Thursday, September 05, 2019 - 09:16 am: Edit |
The ever helpful Coalition decided to flip Neutral planets over to the Feds (and Gorn) very early in the war, so they've been getting an extra 3 to 6 EPs from them up until recently.
By Rob Padilla (Zargan) on Thursday, September 05, 2019 - 02:35 pm: Edit |
AT6 has come and gone. With overwhelming numerical superiority in the HTO, the Hydrans were severely limited with what they could do. The Kzinti had more latitude, but the Coalition protected well against a deep strike from 1704.
The Kzinti liberated 1401, as well as destroyed two other small ships along the way to 1401. This is not as impressive as it sounds, as the Coalition really were not defending it, opting to defend their SB at 1202 instead. Coalition reserves did not deploy in the ZTO.
In the HTO, it was another turn of re-deployment. Most of the Hydran navy attacked the remains of the West fleet in 619. Other than that one battle, they just reinforced defensive positions and deployed frigate squadrons to hold open the path to the Old Colonies. They couldn't even think of doing a deep strike, as a butt on of Coalition ships were adjacent to 617. Coalition reserves did not deploy in the HTO.

The C markers look like ‘under construction’ coins and as Rob said the number of them indicate how many turns Ted has invested.
Is this true Ted?
I thought I added markers for that type of thing but this works too.
I have been grinding at magma level pace on the new CB file, doing just a few small things each week.
Thanks for the entertaining game gents.

I'd love love LOVE to have a marker that says "Moving". We have Moved, but it's not quite the same thing.
Right now I used the Moved marker and a big number to represent a fleet that is still moving, and how many pulses it has moved.
