We are using "you can always build an FF" as a house rule. The rules we are using are posted at the start of the game thread. Best to check those when one sees something weird before it turns into a lengthy discussion.
Re: Raids. In 1105; huh. Somehow, we both missed that. That might change things. There is nothing that can react to 0911, however.

Due to us all being stupid, raids were adjusted to:
-DNL kils F5 in 0911.
-BF raids province in Lyran space.
In operational moves, still, a battle line is attacking Klingon BATS 1707; the bulk of the Kzinti home fleet has attacked the Coalition sitting in 1402 (70 SEQ of Kzinti are piling on 69 SEQ of Coalition). A bunch of ships might react in from 1304, but remains to be seen currently.
Moves continue.

Moves are done. There is a potentially big fight where most of the Kzinti fleet attacked the Coalition in 1402. A lot more Coalition reacted in. The Kzinti can't possibly win the hex if the Coalition want to stay in it (it's as if the Lyrans attacking 1401 while out of supply turned out to be completely irrelevant to them!). There is another battle over Klingon BATS 1707 that is likely saved by a Klingon reserve showing up.
Probably a short combat phase.

Combat is over, as is the turn.
The Kzinti attacked Klingon BATS 1707, to either kill the BATS or lure a reserve 7 hexes away from 1401. It got the reserve, offered a declined approach, and retreated (it would have been murdered over the BATS). In 1402, the Kzinti kept up the fight for 4 rounds, both sides losing a ship to direct damage each round, and after the Coalition ratcheted up the compot, the Kzinti decided they did enough and fell back to the capital. Not much changed.
Ships Killed:
-Kzinti: BC, CLE, 2FF
-LYR: CC
-KLI: D5, 2F5, E4
The Klingons took a cripple, the Kzinti did not.
The Kzinti ended the turn with about 72 ships (plus fighters and Auxes) in 1401, a handfull of ships over SB 0902, planet 1001, and planet 1502; 2 full reserves off map (although both are led by CR9 ships). The Marquis fleet has 4 ships on the SB and 2 ships over in 1801.

During the raid phase, the Lyrans sent 2CWs into the raid pool, raided provinces 1701 and 1702 in Kzinti space; the Kzinti POLs that responded were very brave, crippling one of the CWs and chasing the other away (both raids failed; I don't think either of the POLs made it home).

Moves are underway. Nothing particularly exciting has happened yet--10 or so ships attacked planet 1001 (that had 6 ships on it), and then 4 ships that were sitting on SB 0902 reacted in; some Klingons walked into 1401, and 4 ships that were on planet 1502 reacted in. A bunch of Lyran Aux CVs attacked BATS 1205. Lots of ships left to move.

CT3
Moves are done and reserves have moved in!
The Coalition were highly devious this turn; they hit the Kzinti Capital last turn, stripped a bunch of PDUs, and then this turn, basically did a feint, and sent a token force to the Capital, and then spread ships all over Kzinti space, killing everything they can with only limited defense (as most of the Kzinti are in the Capital.
There are about 50 Coalition ships at 1401, but the majority of them are FFs, and it'll be unlikely that they can get through an approach battle, even if they wanted to. The Kzinti have about 75 ships and a billion fighters.
Elsewhere, however, the Coalition are attacking SB 0902, planet 1202, BATS 1205, planet 1502, and BATS 1605 with overwhelming force and no Kzinti opposition.
At planet 1001, there are about 15 Coalition vs about 10 unimpressive Kzinti and the 2PDUs. The Coalition can certainly take the planet if they are so inclined.
At planet 1504, there are about 11 Klingons, and the Kzinti sent 20 ships worth of reserve fleets (leaving a few Aux hulls off map from one of the reserves). The Kzinti will certainly save the planet.
Of note is that the Lyrans have moved a TG+MB and an FRD to hex 1403, and are setting up. MB in 1403 currently. Which is bold, but probably will work, even if the Kzinti end up with 20 ships in 1504 at the start of the next turn...
By Richard Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Saturday, March 21, 2020 - 09:27 am: Edit |
It should work as long as the Coalition don't let you get more than those 20 ships in the hex (and keep a strong enough force there). A bunch of the Coalition aux carriers can end up in that hex at the end of this turn.

Combat is over!
The Coalition killed SB 0902, BATS 1205, BATS 1605, and captured planet 1202 for limited loss (IIRC, the SB shot down a Lyran FF and crippled a few ships before it got killed).
They attacked planet 1502, mauled 3PDUs but then left before having to resolve the minus points. Planet 1504 was saved by reserves. Planet 1001 was saved by some ships sitting there.
The Coalition fought one round of approach at 1401; the Kzinti outgunned them due to drone bombardment and rolled better, killing the D6S in scout formation; the Coalition then fled the system. It is possible that if the dice were different, the Coalition could have slipped in past the first approach fight and come in with a D6M to strip another planet, but losing the first round of approach and then losing their only big scout foiled any potential there.
Ships Killed:
-ZIN: EFF, FF
-LYR: FF
-KLI: D6S, E4
It looks very much at this point that the Coalition plan to stonewall the Kzinti (by building a SB in 1403) and then pile on the Hydrans. At press time, the Kzinti economy is still pretty robust (no planets in the capital have been devastated yet; they still hold 2 on map planets and the Marquis zone is still part of the main grid). We'll see how it goes.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Monday, March 23, 2020 - 06:48 pm: Edit |
CT3
The turn is over!
In Kzinti space, the Coalition pile about 121 SEQ into hex 1403, where they are currently constructing a MB. There are about 20 Kzinti SEQ adjacent in planet 1504, and not 121 total SEQ of Kzinti in existence. There are also enough ships at Lyran BATS 0504 to prevent any forward deployed Kzinti from killing any Lyran border BATS they can reach
Meanwhile, the Coalition moved a lot of ships to the Hydran border.
There are 2 solid Coalition reserves in 1407; 2 solid Lyran reserves at SB 0411; solid Klingon reserves in 1013, 1411, and 1716.
On to AT3!

Hmmm, how is/was province 0701 disrupted (raid in 802/703?)?
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Monday, March 23, 2020 - 08:30 pm: Edit |
By virtue of accidentally leaving the DIS counter there. That province is actually a full province. On the other hand, province 1702 *is* actually disrupted, as it was captured, and then abandoned, and the Kzinti haven't been thee since. So a wash.

Moves are done and reserves are on their way.
In Kzinti space, the Kzinti, realizing that there was zero way to get into hex 1403 this turn (where a MB is currently being established, and even if I pushed every ship I had in that direction and got a handful in, there would be enough ships in the hex still, and then reserves, to make it futile (and then trying to direct a TG in formation wasn't likely to ever happen with the ships that could get there), the Kzinti just attacked Coalition weak spots where they could.
There are solid battle lines at captured planets 1105 and 1202 (both are occupied by a couple small Coaliton ships), a bunch of ships are mugging a pair of province raiders in Western Kzinti space (that reaserves can't rescue), and the ships that were on planet 1504 have struck at Klingon BATS 1707 (which is undefended currently). The Coalition have a pair of not real impressive reserves in 1407 to engage with (there is a Klingon reserve in 1411, but it isn't released yet).
On the Hydran front, the Hydrans all set up on the Nothern edge of Hydran space, and attacked the Lyrans in force. They have an obvious pinning force over SB 0411 (about 40 SEQ on each side), and then two significant forces attacking Lyran BATS 0212 (defended by a few small ships) and BATS 0413 (defended by a not insignficant force, but also not a particularly threatening one). There are no coalition reserves that can reach any of these fights.

In Kzinti space, the Kzinti liberated planets 1105 and 1202, killed 3 ships without taking any damage in return, and were yet again chased away from BATS 1707 by reserve forces.
In Hydran space, the Hydrans killed Lyran BATS 0212 for nothing but a handful of fighters, killed BATS 0413 with the FSP TG, losing a LN for their trouble, and running from a rejected approach battle over SB 0411.

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 - 11:20 pm: Edit |
I didnt want to lose hull count from 1403 and didnt have big carriers, so would have needed CVT, D6V, 3xF5V to match his 3xCV and having lost a D6S I was behind on 4 EW scouts.
If he is happy going after things other than 1403 Im happy with that.
Next turn I will be building D5V and D6S. And will feel a lot happier with things.
