Alliance Turn 12 Raids:
-----------------------

The Hydrans raid hexes/provinces 0114 and 0916, disrupting both without opposition.

The Federation raids 3212, 3210, and 3509 and in each case the Romulans cloak and run; the cloak rolls are 4,1,6, with the Snipe in 3509 getting blown up twice over by a Federation DN(L). The other Snipes retreat and maintain disruptive activity from their new location.

The Kzintis raid Zelkrat, where the Lyrans accidentally decided to change their mind about stationing a reserve there, but didn't replace the garrison ships that would have been there, such that only an FF held planet and province, and the raid caused the rebellion of both.

Alliance Turn 12
----------------
Operational Movement
--------------------

The Hydrans split up, sending forces to reclaim 0718 and 0519 and a very strong fleet to reopen the offmap, which includes a couple of tugs and FFT's which presumably are intended to finally run the Coalition blockade. The Hydrans also finally split off a force to go kill Klingon BATS 1214, which is out of range of reserves (all the Coalition SEW to speak of are in 0416 protecting the Starbase going up there). Thus, there are four combat hexes in Hydran space:

0118: A large Hydran fleet against 12 Lyrans, because the Lyrans reacted in to avoid getting swarmed, and will thus have to give up a couple of ships to flee (unless the reserves show up);
0519: Seven weak Klingons against 25 Hydrans with 38 fighters (and two FCR's).
0718: Eight weak Klingons against 26 Hydrans with 31 fighters (and an FCR).
1214: A perfectly adequate Hydran BATS-busting force against an undefended BATS.

The Kzinti walk over to attack the new mobile base going up in 1802, dropping their fleet on it and moving a CV group and some friends (6 ships) past onto the garrison (CW,FF) next door in 1803.

1802: 80 ships against a dozen mostly weak Lyrans.
1803: 6 ships and 6 fighters against Lyran CW,FF.

In Federation space it is remarkable how fast things unravel. Just a moment ago it appeared that the Coalition had everything in order. But after the Federation builds or activates about 30 ships, repairs 30 more, and counts the 7th Fleet from the South and the ships that had been guarding the gateway to the offmap, the Feds seem to have pincount superiority over the Klingons in theatre, in particular once you eliminate from effective use all of the Klingon ships (40ish) floating in empty space driving in circles and waiting to occasionally be ambushed. 90% of those 40 ships are D6's and E4's that aren't good for much else... but they're still ships.

So the Feds get to have some fun...

Lots of ships left to move.

Federation Operational Movement on Alliance Turn 12, Continued
--------------------------------------------------------------

Combat hexes created include:

2105: 17 Feds move to this planet to pin the Klingon reserve there. Led By a DN, this may be enough to take the planet unless (another!) reserve moves there. The Feds leave a trail of ships to maintain their retrograde path even if they are reserved/reacted upon, but the Klingons stay put.
2210: 30 Feds have 8 province garrison ships from the surrounding area.
2509: Several Feds vs. CVT+AD5+2xE4A.
2513: Six Klingon province garrison ships against the newly constituted Federation 9th Fleet (21 ships and 14 fighters)
2602: A small group of Feds (6 ships) beating up 3 Klingons.
2610: A small Klingon planetary garrison (4 ships) against CA,2xNCL,2xFF.
2715: 4 Klingons against 3 fast Fed Cruisers and 3 fast Fed transports.
2804: D6,E4 being attacked by 8 Feds.
2905: 5 Klingons being attacked by 11 Feds.
3103: 2xD6,3xF5,F5S vs. 7 Feds.
3302: D6,E4S,F5S,2xF5 (out of supply) against 8 Feds.
3311: Two frigates chasing Romulan Snipe.

Reserve Movement AT12

The Lyrans send two reserves to 1802 and one to 0718.

The Klingons have two reserves (one pinned, one reserving in) in 2106, one in 2509, and one in 0718.

Romulan reserves are all sitting on the Gorn Border, watching empty radar screens.

[Aside: Counting Ships]

So having managed to get outnumbered by the Feds in Northern Fed space, I decided to do a full ship census. This was done using Vassal's empire ships function, but Trent and I went through and deleted all the POLs on the empire charts (since we're only using abstract POLs) and I checked to see if there were any weird entries and didn't see any.

Empire Ships (Fighters)
Federation 291 (166)
Gorn 83 (6)
Hydran 170 (238)
Klingon 487 (203)
Kzinti 107 (96)
Lyran 229 (68)
Romulan 252 (117)
Tholian 87 (32)

Thus, totals (not counting Tholians) are:

Coalition 966 (388)
Alliance 648 (500)

However, more than half of this advantage is Romulans vs. Gorns, and since the Romulans aren't threatening the Feds right now on the Alliance turn (having retrograded to their own space for the most part)...

AT12 is over!

The Federation retrogrades on SB2901 and the Capital (some ships are on nearby SB's) with more than enough ships to pin out the Klingons, it looks like, in the Capital.

The Kzinti return to the off map area, having done their job of draining Lyran coffers for new fixed defenses again.

The Hydrans are in the Capital but with some tugs and transports in the off map area, ready to bring EPs to the shipyard on AT13 on the (reliable) assumption that the Coalition will again cut the link to the off map area.

The Gorns are deployed against what everyone confidently presumes will be Romulan aggression.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Saturday, July 03, 2021 - 04:59 pm: Edit

... and AT12 is over again!

We spent an hour and a half recovering from someone nudging the computer into the "off" position. But we are back in action and the Alliance has passed the turn.

The Lyrans have a bunch of EPs available, and leave a few in treasury to start preparing for exhaustion (and Y175 technology). They do take the opportunity to build some pods that probably should have been on the map for years.

The Klingons splurge on PDUs, because they have the ability to do so and have a bunch of planets in Fed space that could use defenses, as well as the shipyard planet in 1401.

Otherwise, they need some more "E4's to give." so they make a bunch of those, not because they wouldn't like to have the big ships, but because they need garrison frigates and they can get those, AND the extra EPs.

The Romulans just build their stuff. They need to have the scouting and fighters to survive the Gorns. They make an FRD because they are planning on fighting deep into Gorn territory, as quickly as possible.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Sunday, July 04, 2021 - 09:04 pm: Edit

The Coalition foregoes raids this turn, as they are sending actual ships most of the places they would want to send a raid and also forgot.

The Kzinti front has a combat hex for the first time in four turns, as the Kzinti raided out planet 1105 and the Lyrans are stepping back on it with CF,CLS,FF against an RDF.

On the Hydran front, the Coalition has finished their second starbase (SB0416) and has nothing, really, to attack except the capital. So they step back on 0519 (2xD6,4xE4 vs. RDF) and pile into the capital with 247 SEQ, including a lot of good ships but (if one is reading tea leaves) leaving the aux carriers home in 0416.

In Federation space, going from north (where the action is!) south:

2901: Battle Group Invincible (84 SEQ) against a starbase and about 57 Feds, most of which are a little bit old tech.
3103: 7 Klingons jumping on the FF that was holding open supply to the off map.
3203: 8 Klingons fighting a BATS.
3006: The Klingon North Fleet fighting a minor planet (81 SEQ).
2711: 3 Klingons jumping an FF that was cutting supply to the Orion cluster.
2713: 4 Klingons jumping 2xFF that was cutting supply to the Orion cluster.
2914: D7,D6 (the Klingons are short of ships in the Galactic South) against 2xFF that was cutting supply to the Orion cluster.
Minor 2715: D6 vs. RDF.
3111: 2xWE vs. an FF surrounding the Orion cluster.
3113: 4 Romulans against 2xFF surrounding the Orion cluster.
3209: 4 Romulans including the VLV against a BATS
3211: 5 Romulans recapturing a devastated planet.

Meanwhile, the big news is that the vast majority of the Romulan Imperial Navy is in Gorn Space as of this writing:

BATS 4008: 10 Romulans
BATS 4208: 11 Romulans
BATS 4408: 8 Romulans
BATS 4608: 8 Romulans
BATS 5008: 5 Romulans

[The Romulans are avoiding anything within two of Starbase 4806 and the Gorns there.]

Minor Neutral 4309: 4 Romulans
Starbase 4206: The Romulan Imperial Banner Fleet (68 SEQ) against the Gorn Strike Fleet (18 SEQ).
Starbase 4507: The Romulan 4th Star Legion (66 SEQ) against 34 SEQ of Gorns including the DNT and something like half a dozen other 10+Compot ships.

Reserves are next (although all Alliance reserves are pinned except two very nice reserves in the Federation Capital).

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Sunday, July 04, 2021 - 09:09 pm: Edit

Reserves have moved:

The Federation sent a reserve to 2711 (which will save the FF and also planet 2610, which the Klingons were going to retreat onto) and 2713. So instead of losing FF's there, they will kill a ship, in all probability, instead. They chose not to chase Romulans, who keep disappearing on them.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Monday, July 05, 2021 - 01:06 pm: Edit

Correction:

Having realized that the supply situation requires it, the Federation has decided to countermand orders, and send a reserve to 3203 rather than 2713.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Monday, July 05, 2021 - 08:21 pm: Edit

Correction:

"Starbase" 4507 is in fact BATS 4506. Typing too fast.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Monday, July 05, 2021 - 10:42 pm: Edit

Much ado about nothing...

The Coalition came in to 0617 and dropped a bunch of rocks down the Hyreark gravity well, took a good long look at the shipyard (First line would have been 350-360, something over 240 fighters available not counting the PDUs) and noped out.

The Klingons killed a Starbase, but the Federation just retreated off map and the Klingons devotion to carrier production left fewer crippled ships than in most recent starbase fights.

The Romulans and the Gorns fought, but the biggest engagement lasted a single round, with the DNT+ blasting a KRS out of the scout box (a KRS converted approximately a week earlier) and then taking to its heels.

CT13 is over.

The Romulans mostly stay forward deployed, and retrograde their cripples back to repair points leaving the healthy ships mostly in Gorn space. They have two reserves, a decent one in 4510 and a very weak one (5 ships) in 4110.

The Romulans have an FRD park in 4108, a stray FRD on BATS 4310, and a mobile base being set up in 4107.

The Klingons have four reserves, two in 2106 (which is this turn not within 6 of any significant Federation forces), one in 0416 (new construction, frigate heavy) and one in 0615 (Also mostly new construction, but stronger).

The Klingons set up (instantly) three additional PDUs in 1401 to defend the MB->BATS upgrade there and one each (not instantly) in 2106, 2306, and 2505 (where there is an MB).

The Klingons leave only a couple of ships near the off-map to cut supply to the Federation off-map area and the bulk of their fleet again stages itself in 2505.

The Lyrans strategic move their new construction to 0416, setting it up as a reserve, and bring a second Lyran FRD to the same location under cover of the Starbase. They set two reserves in 1401, and strat LTT,3xCL from the northern front back to the capital.

AT13 Economy

(I'm going to forego the spreadsheets for this, because both the Feds and Hydrans are now on two grids. It would take a lot of space...)

Kzinti Economy:

The Kzinti start with .875 EP and make 27 EP off map. They also received 20 EP from a Federation Convoy previously arrived which is available this turn. They have 5.625 salvage.

They build 7 FF, 4 FFK, FKE and repair 7xCL,4xFFK,2xDD,CV,FF. They end with half an EP.

Hydran Economy:

The Hydrans start with .25 EP on map and 40 EP off map. They have 15 EP income and 3 EP of salvage on map, and 31 EP off map.

They build 5xCU,2xFFT on map and FCR off map. They load 28 EP onto transports in the off map area.

Federation Economy:

The Federation produces 96 EP in the Capital grid and 22 more EPs off map. They earn 16 EP salvage income.

The Feds repair 9xFF,2xCA, 2xFXP, DE,CL on map and 8xFF off map.

The Feds build 24xFF,DE,NCL and convert 2xCL to LSC. They also build an FCR off map.

They activate a CS.

They end with 8 EP on map and 4.5 EP in the off map grid.

Gorn Economy:

The Gorn start with 0 EP in treasury and make 82 EP in income, plus 13 EP in salvage. They build 2xCCH,CM,3xHDE,4xBD,DDT.

Four PDUs predictably go up in the shipyard.

The Gorns end with 6 FFF and 0 EP.

OK, how are there 8 FFs built in the off-map area??

Alliance Raids:

Hydrans: Raid 0219 and 0819 (unopposed disruption of provinces)

Kzinti: Raid 1705 (unopposed) and 1707 (POL vs. CF - POL rolls and 11 and the raid fails, but it dies horribly)

Federation: Raid 2901 (DNL vs. F5), 2903 (CF vs. E4), 3210 (CF vs. SEH) [Not yet resolved.]

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Friday, July 09, 2021 - 10:58 am: Edit

Raids:

One more: In 4814, a Gorn DD is chased off by a suicidally brave Romulan POL.

3210: The Seahawk evades using cloak.

2903: A Federation CF destroys an E4 and liberates a province.

2901: A Federation DNL destroys an F5 and liberates a province.

Alliance Operational movement on AT13.

The Federation has swarmed all over its space, attacking pretty much every province and planet garrison that is in range of the fleets in the off map and the Capital and not within two of the giant Klingon fleet in 2505. In other words, the pesky Feds are stealing anything that isn't nailed down, just like you'd expect.

2302: Four Klingons facing a superior Federation squadron.
2601: Two Klingons attacked by four Feds.
3201: Two Feds attacking an F5.
3203: This BATS is reinforced from the offmap squadron. [No combat]
2608: A bunch of Klingons react in from next door and more Feds arrive to reinforce. Some of these Feds continue on to...
2509: This planet is disputed by small forces.
2210: All the neighboring Klingons react in and fight with a superior Federation force.
3409: Feds chasing a Romulan.
3509: More Feds chasing a different Romulan frigate.
3113: Yet more Feds chasing another Romulan.
3005: 8 Klingon garrison ships against 10 superior Feds.
2805: 6 Klingons against 8 superior Feds.
2914: 5 Federation FF's against D7,D6.

In Hydran space, the Hydrans reopen the off map and attack the Eastern province garrisons (which predictably react in), 0718, and 0519 with middling sized fleets. The Coalition reserves aren't great this turn (On 0416 there is a decent Lyran reserve and a Klingon reserve of six ships; on 0615 there is a weak (but 10 ships) Klingon reserve of newly constructed frigates.

In Kzinti space, the Kzinti are slightly more rambunctious than usual, creating two combat hexes:

In their usual punching bag 1802, the Lyrans have about a dozen ships and the Kzinti 59, plus most of their CV's. A smaller fleet of 37 ships (mostly FF's) is in 1504 testing out a new target. There are two reserves in 1401 that could potentially change the result in 1504 (they are full of DN's since why not?) but probably aren't thick enough to save 1802. But if 1802 holds, the Kzinti in 1504 are cut off from the off map (probably). So that's a thing.

Reserves are next!

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Saturday, July 10, 2021 - 01:04 pm: Edit

AT13 Reserve movement

The Lyrans send both Northern reserves to Klingon BATS/Planet 1504, where they are outnumbered, but far from outgunned, and should save the planet and perhaps even the BATS.

The Lyran 3rd reserve in 0416 goes to 0718.

The Klingons send their small Hydran Front reserve to 0519 (where it MAY be enough), and their larger one to 0718, where together with the Lyrans they should hold the planet.

The Klingons also send strong reserves from 2016 to 2509 and 2608, where they will hold the planet and the hex and possibly have an opportunity to retreat over major planet 2708, depending on how things go. The 2608 reserve includes the C8V (which is glad to get a chance to reserve forward after missing all the fun on CT13.)

[The Feds in 2210 will unavoidably maintain a supply and retrograde path through undefended but uncaptured Federation planet 2610.]

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Saturday, July 10, 2021 - 06:08 pm: Edit

The Lyrans have made a huge mistake. After they retreat from 1802 they have no supply grid to the supply tug in Fed space that is feeding the four FRD's that the Klingons use to repair ships. Given that (outside the Capital) there aren't a lot of hard targets left, this is a nuisance, not a disaster, but probably 4 FRD's will be idle next turn while the Lyrans scramble to set up a new supply line.

Now that they have looked at this, a supply tug in province 1707 somewhere convenient should solve the problem (or an MB). Or, you know, not letting the Kzinti beat them like alleycats.

Casualties were light, but the implications are a bit bigger than usual, as stated abve related to the Lyran supply grid into Federation space.

Kzinti
Killed: 3xFF
Crippled: FKE

Federation
Killed: DD, 2xNCL
Crippled: 5xFF,DD

Hydran
Killed: CU,HN (and 4xHN No salvage)
Crippled: 4xCU

Lyran

Klingon
Killed: 4xE4,F5 (and F5,D6 no salvage)
Crippled: 2xE4,AD5,F5,D6M(Shock)

Romulan: None

Gorn:
Crippled: 2xDD

In addition to the Lyran fingerfehler with supply routes, the Hydrans managed to strand about a dozen ships in Eastern Hydran space after they failed to retake 0718, having forgotten to hold open supply (although the bad guys probably could have reacted on any attempt to do so.) So that could cause "FUN!" on CT14, too.
