The Klingons start with about 143 EPs. They build D7C, TGA, D6M, D5S, 8D5, 3F5, FV, 5E4, FRD; activate 2D6, 2F5, 4E4, E4A; convert D6>D6M, 2D6>D6D, 3F5>F5S. Spend 7EP on repairs. End econ with about 6 EPs in treasury.
Lyrans start with about 170 EPs. They build BC, TGC, 3CW, CL, 2DW, DWS, 3FF, FRD, upgrade MB>BATS (1407). Convert CL>BC. Spend 9EP on repairs. End econ with about 65 EPs in treasury.

There were no raids, and moves are well underway.
The Coalition have piled ships into the Kzinti Capital; there are currently about 110 Coalition ships (including 5 maulers and 36 fighters total) in 1401; the Kzinti have 85 ships, and then another 22 SEQ of ship fighters, and then another 38 SEQ of PDU/SB fighters, so the Kzinti reserve in 1401 is not pinned (although best case scenario, a couple of those ships might go somewhere that might help).
Elsewhere, the Coalition are attacking devastated planet 1001 (w/4 ships), planet 1105 (w/10 ships), BATS 1205 (w/3 ships and a bunch of AuxCVs), and neutral planet 1506 (a ship and an LAV currently).
The Coalition still have about 50 unmoved ships.

Ships keep moving. There is now an attack forming at planet 1504, the attack on neutral planet 1506 is big enough to stop any reserve that wanted to intercede; a bunch more ships moved in the direction of the Hydran border.
Still about 35 ships to move. It is unclear if they'll go and pin the Capital, or just bolster other attacks so the reserves are irrelevant.

And yes, I honestly have no idea if I want to pile more ships in to the Capital or make my attacks on the other systems bigger.
And Im away for the weekend so I need to decide now !!

Moves are done and a reserve has moved!
The Coalition managed to completely (exactly) pin the Kzinti Capital (145 SEQ on each side, IIRC), locking down another reserve that was there. The off map reserve (which is a total of 6 dubious ships that wouldn't make any significant difference at the capital anyway) went to go possibly rescue planet 1504.
There are 7 total battle hexes: 1401 (lots of Coalition vs certainly enough Kzinti to keep them from taking it this turn); 1001 (4 ships vs devastated, undefended planet); 1105 (a dozen ships vs 2PDUs); 1202 (a dozen ships vs 2PDUs); 1205 (a dozen ships vs a BATS); 1506 (a dozen ships vs 2 neutral PDUs); 1504 (45/1 compot of Coalition vs 55/3 compot of Kzinti, including the PDUs. It isn't impossible that the Coalition will come and try and kill the PDUs. It also isn't impossible they'll just avoid the whole thing after offering an approach).
Bascially, the Coalition will kill/take 5 targets with no significant damage (there are plenty of AuxCVs; a few FFs might get crippled), the Kzinti probably save planet 1504 for now, and there will be a big fight over the Capital.

All non capital fights are done; as expected, the Coalition captured planets 1105, 1202, and 1506 for minimal damage; recaptured 1001 without opposition; killed BATS 1205.
Over planet 1506, the Kzinti accepted the approach, marginally outgunned the Lyrans, but had both a CVE and DDV on the line without escorts (which made no difference due to not enough ships to put on the line anyway), which I figured were safe from getting killed, as the Lyrans needed 42.5% damage to get them. Lyrans picked 1, I picked 3, VBIR rolled up +2, the Lyrans rolled a 6, and they scored 16 damage off of 43 compot. So I did manage to dodge something deeply stupid. But, man, it came close. Instead, we both lost a FF, the Lyrans took another cripple, and then they left, leaving planet 1504 to provide income another day.
On to the capital!

In 1401, the approach was declined. Both sides spent 2 command points for +1 ship in all systems. The Kzinti parked numerous ships in outer systems, and have a robust mobile fleet.
R1, the Coalition hit with 3 lines, at Vronkett (Maj), Strikus (Min), and Zabottish (Min). The Kzinti met then with full lines at each planet, outgunning the Klingons marginally at both Strikus and Zabottish (both sides around 100) and significantly over Vronkett (something like 125 to 105), and also had an EW advanatge.
Dice were middle-y and average for both sides in all fights (nothing widely divergent). At Vronkett, the Klingons mauled 3PDU and have some minus points; at the other two, the Klingons killed a BC each and some fighters. The Kzinti dropped 43 damage over Vronkett, and killed small line scouts in the other two. So far the Klingons have used up a dozen (of 36) fighters and have about 6 cripples.
This might take a while.

R2 over the Kzinti capital saw the Coalition with another 3 lines, this time over Kuballis (Min), Zubbattish (Mis), and Strikus (Min). The Klingons again hovered around 100 (a little above in 2 places, a little below in the third). The Kzinti outgunned them marginally in all fights, and had an EW advantage in 2 of them. Dice were kind of cruel, and the Klingons rolled a 1 at each of the three fights; the Kzinti rolled better, but not much.
The Klingons stripped PDUs off of 2 of the minors, and killed an FF escort at the third (where VBIR rolled down to 3, and both sides rolled terribly). The Kzinti filled an F5 in that same fight, and then dropped 38 and 32 damage where the Klingons killed PDUs.
On to R3!

R3 at 1401, 2 lines over Keevarsh (Maj) and Vielsalm (Maj). Klingons were about 105/5 at each. At Keevarsh, the Kzinti were 152/8 and at Vielsalm, Kzinti were 125/7. The Klingons rolled not hot (and the VBIR went down) over Keevarsh, only letting them maul 3PDU, but they got all 4 at Vielsalm. In return, the Kzinti dropped 46 and 41 damage.

They seem to be reasonable Kzinti lines for turn 3?
I am guessing they are fielding something like - DN(ADM), 2 x 3CV (CLE's), 2 x CC, 4 x BC, 12 pts of Drone and 4 x PDU would be 152!)
So probably 4 CCs!
No directing on Maulers.....?
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Thursday, August 05, 2021 - 08:55 am: Edit |
Peter has been dropping all the damage other than killing a DWS, F5S, and an F5.
So there are a LOT of cripples for me to take care of next turn.
Peter's most recent line was:
DN+ADM (c/f), [CV, MEC, FKE, FFK], [CV, CLE, EFF], [3DD, 2FF, SF], (TTS), (2PDU: 18/2)=108/7

As noted elsewhere, with the expansions, the Kzinti are way better off early in the game :-)
The Kzinti have plenty of ships in the capital; they did lose both SB 0902 and 1304 for mostly a song on T2, so they don't have much to defend on T3. The 152/8 line was:
DN+ADM (c/f), [CV, MEC, FKE, FFK], [CV, CLE, EFF], 2CC, 3BC, (TTS), (2DF, SDF: 12), (4PDU: 36/4)=152/8
Using 12 free DBB from the stockpile.
I'm not directing on maulers. I let Jason self cripple them (or risk the shock, but usually they just self cripple to absorb damage). I realized long ago that trying to stay ahead of the mauler curve is almost completely futile. The Coalition will always have plenty of maulers. Like, if I can opportunistically bag one in a rando open space fight, or certainly in pursuit, I'll kill them. But directing them over the capital is, in my experience, a waste of resources.

1401 R4, R5
Rounds 4 and 5 see the Klingons sending a single line to an undamaged minor planet each time, at about 105/5, the Kzinti have about 110/7 and 114/7 each round. In R4, everything rolled down some, but the Klingons scored enough to kill 2PDU (and not take a ton of damage in return), so the Kzinti spite kill an F5S; R5, the Klingons do enough damage to again kill 2PDUs (the last ones not on the homeworld, except for a single PDU each on Keevarsh and Vronkett, which survived by virtue of a stack of minus points protecting them).
Now we see if the Klingons come to the Homeworld.

The Coalition finished off a few more PDU and turned their tails and fled.
In 11 rolls I managed 5 rolls of 1, 2 rolls of 2, a 3, a 4, a 5 and something else I dont recall.
Just horrible. One of the rolls was so poor I couldnt even kill 2 PDU.
Overall I managed to strip 10 of 12 PDU from the Majors and all the PDU from the minors.
Ship losses werent too bad but there is a huge backlog of cripples needing to be fixed.
My original plan was to spend a few rounds fighting over each of the Minor planets to bleed Peter of his BC. But the damage I was doing was weak and the cripples were mounting so instead I had to take care of the planets then run.
I rolled a 1 and Peter rolled a 6 in pursuit. With minus points reducing his damage Peter killed a Mauler and an F5 for no damage in return.

In 1401, the Coalition fought for 5 total rounds and a pursuit. The stripped almost all PDUs off the non capital planets, killing 18 PDUs, only leaving a single PDU each on Keevarsh and Vronkett. They also fled with, like, -70 points worth of dead, homeless fighters going to waste (for the Kzinti).
In the pursuit, the Kzinti rolled a 6 (with a -2EW shift), the Klingons rolled a 1, resulting the Kzinti killing a d6m and f5, and not taking any noticeable damage in return.
In the hex, the Coalition lost 2F5S, F5, DWS, d6m, f5 and took 30 cripples on top of that (mostly D5/F5). The Kzinti lost their PDUs, 2BC, FF, and a *lot* of sad, homeless fighters.
Dice in the capital weren't real kind fo the Coalition, but weren't that much better for the Kzinti, and really, the only places where it actually mattered was over the two major planets that only got 3PDUs mauled instead of 4 at once.

The turn is over!
In Kzinti space, the Coalition captured planets 1105, 1202, and neutral planet 1506; recaptured planet 1001, killed BATS 1205, and stripped most of the PDUs off of the non homeworld planets in 1401 (2 of the majors each have a single PDU, the rest of the planets are bare, but undevastated). A Kzinti reserve did manage to save planet 1504, and BATS 1605 and 1805 remain on the frontier (that lone CL at 1605 looks scary, I guess...).
The Coalition currently have about 41 cripples on the map; they seem pretty well spread out, and might all get repaired on CT4. Most Coalition ships in the Kzinti theatre are in 1406 or 1407 with some FRDs.
The Coalition sent a billion ships to the Hydran front, and all the Coalition reserves are on that end of things as well (3 solid Lyran and all 4 Klingon reserves are around the Hydran border). There are a billion ships in and around Klingon BATS 1013, and the Southern Lyran front is heavily reinforced as well.

The Hydran setup for T3 weirdly sees the Hydrans heavily leveraged towards the Eastern front; the 1st Fleet is almost entirely in 1217; the 2nd Fleet is mostly in 0714. We'll see what happens!

The Kzinti send raids into a couple Northern Klingon provinces (that can be resisted by some fighter squadrons or POLs), and the Hydrans send the GRV to raid a Southern Lyran province (that ca be resisted by a fighter squadron or a DD or a POL).
The first actual movement is the Hydran 1st Fleet (in 1217) moving into Klingon space towards BATS 1417. There are 4 ships at BATS 1417, 4 ship each at the BATS to the North and the South, and the SR fleet at SB 1716. We'll see what happens!
