Alliance Turn 13 Post-Combat

After Combat, the Federation retreats into the capital with most of its ships (190+ and 100+ fighters) leaving a reserve in 2711 (13 ships there, 11 of which are in the reserve) and 40 ships including a CVA but also 24 FF's on BATS 3203. (BATS 3203 and 3601 are now the only route to the off map area).

The Hydrans retrograde into the capital, except for 13 ships trapped in Eastern Hydran space.

The Kzinti leave the map.

The Gorns retrograde into the shipyard with virtually the entire fleet, relying on their defenses to (hopefully) weather the coming storm.
They do leave one 13 ship reserve on SB 4806.

The Lyrans leave a bunch of ships unrepaired as their FRDs in Federation space suddenly were bereft of spare parts due to the Kzinti incursion into the supply lines at 1802. No doubt some more reliable method will be found in the future rather than relying on a difficult-to-defend minor planet full of hostile lesser felines.

They have plenty of cash, as a second successive turn of less brutal repair bills allows them to begin to stock up for the coming exhausted turns.

The Klingons certainly can't be said to be holding back, despite the war chest, given that they are buying carriers full freight and making all sorts of fancy upgrades. However, they have activated their last two D6's. Fortunately, the arrival of D5W's on the SIT will give them plenty of toys to spend EPs on and probably prevent them from doing what they really should do with the EPs (overbuilding E4's).

They also stopped downshifting builds this turn, so there are fewer E4's lying around for the next couple turns and the pincount stacks in major fleets may need to be raided for garrison ships.

The Romulans convert a bunch of heavy escorts to make terrifyingly dense carrier groups on their first opportunity, and repair a bunch of ships. Unlike the West Galaxy Coalition, the Romulans are in no way prepared for exhaustion and may need some loanskis if they are to keep up appearances as the war goes on.

At the very least once exhaustion hits the scads of Sparrowhawk-to-heavy-cruiser upgrades are likely to be over...

One Edit: The Lyrans get 2 EPs for the new province off-map. I simply forgot that 160 was the cutoff.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Saturday, July 17, 2021 - 11:55 am: Edit

In Operational movement, the Coalition mobbed the out of supply Hydrans and stepped back onto planet 0519, attacked the Feds they could attack without allowing reaction from the capital, and flooded the Gorn Capital with ships.

Combat hexes are:

Hydran TO:

0519: Klingons stepping back on the planet.
1018: A big fleet of Coalition ships, surrounded by decent fleets of Coalition ships to beat up the Hydrans again when they retreat.

Kzinti space involves no combat, but the Lyrans are a little more spread out than they were before.

In Federation space, the Klingons move out into the hinterlands to grab EPs, including putting a decent fleet in 2801 to block the off map area. Romulans expand into the mostly undefended underbelly of Federation space, and sneak some ships out of Gorn space to attack the 5th Fleet Starbase. Combat there includes:

2610: A giant Klingon fleet attacking an undefended planet.
2711: 32 Klingons and 17 fighters are pinning a Federation Reserve.
2713: 5 Klingons attacking two Federation FF's
3113: 5 Romulans attacking two Federation FF's
3005: A giant Klingon fleet attacking an undefended planet.
3210: A few Romulans attacking an undefended planet.
3509: A few Romulans attacking an undefended planet.
3604: A Romulan fleet stretching out of supply to attack a Federation Starbase that is undefended. This seems risky, but it's also a "free" Starbase.

In Gorn space, all three Capital Hexes and the second southern Starbase are under assault:

4402: Most every Gorn ship (56 SEQ plus auxes and a couple of cripples) against 72 Romulans (and 41 fighters)
4403:30 Romulans and 14 Fighters
4503:25 Romulans and 24 Fighters
4806:29 Romulans against 13 ships and a Starbase.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Saturday, July 17, 2021 - 12:00 pm: Edit

The Hydrans spend both reserves to 0519, making that an unmitigated disaster for the Klingons given that they sent 8 ships rather than the appropriate four (or lots).

The Federation sends the Second Reserve to 2711, then the Fourth Reserve through 2711 (dropping off the appropriate number of ships to match pincount) and with the remainder going to 2713, then sends the Fourth reserve to 2711 as well, so that the Federation is advantaged in both hexes.

All Gorn Reserves are pinned, and the Kzinti didn't set any because there aren't any Alliance targets to make battle hexes out of within 6 of the offmap.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Sunday, July 18, 2021 - 11:05 am: Edit

Coalition Turn 14 is over, and combat was pretty brutal, despite some serious dice favoring the Coalition (for once!) this turn. Overall it wasn't too horrible, but there were a few really important rolls that split hard for the Coalition, including the first round over the Gorn Shipyard (6-2 for the Romulans) and pursuit out of the Shipyard hex when the Romulans ran (VBIR down two AND a 6-1 split for the Romulans).

In Hydran space, the Hydrans kill three E4's in 0519, fighting retreat over the retreating Klingons in 0618, and kill another 2 E4's, making the Klingon mistake in that hex really pretty significant. For comparison, using pretty much the entire Hydran front fleets, the Klingons and Lyrans managed to kill four ships from the out-of-supply Hydran force. However, that force remains out of supply.

In Federation space, the Federation fought a few battles with Klingons but mostly the game of patty cake between the superpowers continued; the Feds appear to be content to win the battles they can win, and the Klingons seem content to let the Romulans go win the war if the Federation is going to keep looking West.

In Gorn space, the Romulans killed SB 4806 with dropped damage, cleaned up the minor capital hexes, and paid CON,2xSUP,KE, and a big pile of cripples (10xKE, half as many maulers, ETC.) to kill the PDUS on Ghdar. They have no ability to repair any great fraction of the cripples, but they do have a bunch of other ships available for a final assault on CT15. the only Romulan repairs in range are 3xFRD (two in 4206 and one in 4309); other repairs are going to be headed to the interior on CT15 to make room for what may be confidently assumed to be other crippled ships created on CT15.

As mentioned, the dice favored the Coalition. The Alliance rolled a mediocre 3.29 average, the Coalition, over 24 rolls, rocked a 4.45, including 6-5-3-6-6 in the shipyard against 2-4-3-4-1 (the last roll being pursuit, which just crippled a cruiser, but the others being important.)

Painful, but the war isn't over yet (Trent woke up early and started doing econs on Sunday morning. Go figure.)

Losses:

Kzinti None.
Klingons: 5xE4,D7 killed, 3xAD5 crippled.
Hydrans: 2xCU (and LN,CU no salvage) killed, CU crippled.
Federation: SB 3604, SC,FF killed, 3xNCL,2xFF crippled.
Romulans: SHR,K7R,KR,WE,SN,CON,2xSUP,VUL,2xSKE (and FAL no salvage) killed, SP,KRM,KRC,SPC,KR,FAL,FHF,10xKE,2xWE,FH,KRM,K5S,FHC,2xSPF,3xK4 crippled
Gorns: SB 4806,4403,4503, 26xPDU killed, BF crippled.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Sunday, July 18, 2021 - 06:20 pm: Edit

In Hydran space, the Klingons and Lyrans retrograde to 0416 and 0615, leaving some ships on 0718 and an F5 in 0717, as well as province garrisons of FF's, CL's, and D6's.

In Federation space, the Klingons try something new and leave very decent fleets in 2509, 2306, 2505, and 2705.

In Gorn space, the Romulans retrograde only cripples (again).

The Coalition set up reserves as follows:

Lyran: 2 in 1504, one in 0416
Klingon: 2404,2106,0718,0615
Romulan: 2 in 4309.

And the turn is over.

Alliance Turn 14 Economy

Federation

Once again, the Federation is cut off from the off map area.

With 104.625 EPs available in the Capital grid, the Federation builds 30 FF's, converts 2 CL to 2 LSC, and performs 6.5 EP of repairs. The on map grid has .125 EP in remaining treasury. Meanwhile, in the offmap main grid, they have 40.5 EP available (after rolling 163+40=203 survey), and perform 6 EP of repairs at the off map Starbase, also building an FCR and converting 3xNCL to 3xNEC at that Starbase. They maintain a stockpile of 17 excess EP's.

Kzinti

The Kzinti accept delivery of another convoy full of EPs from the Federation, and repair 4xFFK,FKE at the Barony Starbase, building CVA,2xEFF,3xFF,4xFFK,MEC,FKE in their new (ish) offmap replacement shipyard.

Hydran

The Hydrans have some EPs brought back on map by tugs and transports, so this turn their Capital grid has 48.825 EP available, including a little salvage from T13. They build PAL,RN,3xCU,2xFFT,HR, using some FFF to stay under 18 banked and ending with 2.075 EP saved.

Offmap, the Hydrans have lots of stored EPs, build an FCR and end with 46 EP in the stockpile.

Gorn

The Gorn have 63.2 EP available and build BC,BCM,MCM,2xHD,HV,5xDD, ending with 1.2 EP in treasury. They have no repairs or other production.

Alliance Raids:

The Alliance raided 1805 (Kzinti)
3003, 2312 (Federation)
0319, 0915 (Hydran)

All of which were unopposed disruptions of captured provinces.

In 3113, the Federation assaulted a Romulan SNB which cloaked successfully and escaped, leaving the province also disputed and no longer under Romulan control.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 - 11:02 pm: Edit

Alliance operational movement:

The Kzinti storm into 1101, getting jumped on my the thirteen Lyrans in 1201, and continue to 1001, then 902 and 802, where the nearby other province raiders react in so as to lose only one ship.

[Lyran reserves from 1504 attend the fight in 1001, where a real fight is shaping up between numerically superior Kzinti and high quality Lyrans.]

In Hydran space, the fleet out of supply in 1116 jumps on the nearby province raiders, and is ignored by Klingon and Lyran reserves, all of which reserve to or are already pinned in 0718, where a real battle is shaping up between numerically superior Hydrans and a joint force of Klingons and Lyrans with better ships, more scouts, and maybe the ability to hang around until the Hydran carrier escorts are gone...

In Federation space, the Federation jump on 4 hexes of province garrisons in 2210 (2210 and reactors-in from three adjacent provinces, and where they are interrupted by a strong reserve), with a superior fleet, Minor planet 2610 (and it's lonely E4 garrison), planet 2509 (with 100 ships), and planet 3005 (Where they have a small edge against 8 Klingons). In 2402 they are advantaged against province garrisons, but in 2801 the Klingon reserve with the B10 has showed up, and the Klingons are advantaged in a fight that will cut the 2402 force out of supply.

Further in Federation space, the Feds are fighting sole Romulan garrison ships in 3104,3408, 3210 and 3509, the latter two planet hexes. Presumably this will result in a lot of cloaking, because there are no Romulan reserves in range. In other news, the Federation has 18 FF's sitting on the Gorn border, presumably ready to retrograde to Ghdar or environs.

The Gorns move some ships around mostly to attend the fight in 4402 next turn, and otherwise avoid antagonizing the giant Romulan fleets floating around in 4403,4503,and 4806.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Sunday, July 25, 2021 - 01:09 pm: Edit

Combat is over on Alliance Turn 14. Not a tremendous amount of activity, as most of the fights were one-sided enough that one side or the other didn't really feel like playing. However, some ships died, some ships are out of supply (although not the Kzinti, who will be able to retrograde off map if they choose).

The Kzinti stormed into 1101 (Killing some FF's since the Lyrans had too many ships to give up just one and no carriers), killed an FF in 0803, but got beat by the reserves in 1001, so the Lyrans keep the planet up for now. Rather than fight on with weaker COMPOT, the Kzinti bailed pretty early.

In Hydran space, the "out of supply" anti province garrison force (in supply for combat) kills some E4's and makes no effor to return to the capital. In 0718, the Hydrans fight a bit, force a few cripples as the Coalition makes terrible lines trying to avoid allowing anything important to get shot, and then both sides get a little more serious for a round or two before the Hydrans decide that even trading fighters for cripples isn't worth losing real ships or real escorts.

In Federation space, the Federation kill a bunch of province garrisons, recapture planets 2610, 3005 and 2509. The B10 did not actually attend the battle in 2801 (although the remainder of the reserve, headed by a D7C, did), but the Klingons won handily without it, cutting a few mostly unimportant Feds out of supply in 2402 and chasing the Feds there off map.

The Feds get the benefit of a couple of bad cloak rolls and kill a couple small Romulans, also chasing Romulans off of 3210, 3509, and neighboring provinces, but failing to close off supply to the Orions.

Casualties for the turn:

Lyrans: 5xFF, SC killed
Kzinti: FKE killed, no cripples
Klingons: 7xE4,D7,D5,DWD killed, 2xF5,F5E, 2xE4,2xD6,D5 crippled
Hydrans: AH,2xCU,DE,TGB killed
Federation: 6xFF killed
Romulans: SEH,SNB,K5 killed
Gorns: None.

Alliance Turn 14 EOT

The Federation has moved 28 frigates to the Gorn capital, not deigning to send anything bigger. Otherwise, they leave small garrisons on planets and retreat to their hardpoints, mostly the capital, where despite losing 28 pincount they certainly can still pin out the Klingons (given that a large Klingon fleet is in 2801).

The Kzinti depart for their bolthole in the Barony, probably as much to be able to drop on 1401 if a base upgrade occurs as anything else.

The Hydrans are mostly back in the capital, and the Gorns have moved their entire fleet to 4402.

Coalition Turn 15.

The last turn before exhaustion for the Coalition.

Lyran Economy:

The Lyrans build their stuff, don't get fancy, add an MB that they will place on a planet in Kzinti space, or a fun location in Federation space, as appropriate.

They continue to upgrade one CL to BC now that they are out of "extra" CA's, and skip the medium carrier slot for Y175, on the theory that with exhaustion coming, they may want the EPs (or, more likely, the -Klingons- might want the EPs!).

Most of their repairs are left over from last turn, when the FRD's in Federation space were out of supply. All the ships that should have been repaired, then, are repaired, now.

Klingon Economy:

The Klingons are making the most of the house rule from this game ("If it's on the SIT and doesn't require special rules, it is buildable.") which up to now, had mostly been a Federation advantage (all the LSC's conversions!). They convert a few D5's during construction, build a DWD by substitution, and otherwise attempt to maintain the EW edge against the Alliance by all available means. With exhaustion looming and their supply of E4's in Federation space dwindling, they downshift some F5 builds to frigate production. The number of E4's that die trying to hold provinces continues to increase and shows no signs of slowing (in fact, only now is the Federation being really aggressive about hitting everything that is available). So making sure the losses are limited to E4's in the places no reserve can reach and/or no reaction is possible is an important part of Klingon military doctrine.

["We only feed them E4's." An important Academy dissertation by officer Kupalnik.]

The Klingons are taking another shot at getting a Starbase up in 1401, gambling that the Lyrans can get enough there to demolish the (relatively frigate heavy and short of good escorts) Kzinti fleet before said fleet produces more good escorts at their new shipyard.

The Klingons also add some PDUs to discourage (encourage?) attacks, not only on 1401 but also on certain planets in Federation space that are inevitably threatened from the Capital.

Romulan Economy:

The Romulans did not have the war chest of the other factions and further did have a fair number of repairs (many of which are not getting repaired at all this turn.) So rather than the twenty-odd EPs of conversions last turn, there are only 9 EPs of conversions and no added builds beyond the schedule.

Coalition raids have begun. The Lyrans do not raid anything, as they do not really have any available provinces to attack that the Coalition isn't planning on recovering and permanently occupying anyway, however.

The Klingons raid two empty Fed provinces in the northeast of Fed space.

The Romulans raid two Gorn provinces one in the northwest of Gorn space and one in the Northeast.

No ships were attacked, so it will just be abstract POLs responding. The Alliance didn't leave a lot of lonely ships about.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Saturday, July 31, 2021 - 02:59 pm: Edit

Coalition raids are complete:

Raids by Klingons on the Federation both succeed against abstract POLs, no losses, disrupted provinces / hexes 3201 and 3401.

Raids by Romulans on Gorns not so lucky. The Romulans disrupt province 4001 without incident, but the FFH in 4704 is forced to retreat to avoid crippling, leaving Gorn economy intact.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Saturday, July 31, 2021 - 11:13 pm: Edit

Coalition operational movement has begun.

Hydran Front

The Klingons throw a bunch of ships at the Hydran out-of supply brigade of nine ships in 1017 and 1117. The Hydrans used pretty much all their ships on AT14, so there are not major concerns with reserves this turn. The Lyrans jump on 0519 with the ships that had reacted off their starbase. Another combat hex is 0717, where a few Hydrans tested the waters by reacting out of the capital.

Combat Hexes:
0717: A decent Coalition fleet against eight Hydrans.
1017: Three Hydrans getting jumped on.
1117: Six Hydrans getting jumped on.
0519: An undefended devastated planet being reoccupied.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Sunday, August 01, 2021 - 11:37 am: Edit

Movement continues.

In Kzinti space the Lyrans shuffle ships around and reoccupy province 0701.

In Federation space, the Klingons revisit the sites of a number of former battles, as the war remains pretty bogged down:

2502: Some Feds stranded out of supply by the Klingon reserves going to 2801 are getting jumped on by a big fleet of Klingons.
2509: A small Federation garrison being attacked by 40 Klingons
2610: A small Federation garrison being attacked by 35 Klingons.
2713: A few Feds being attacked by a decent Klingon fleet (which is kind of "in transit" to the south where the Klingons had abandoned the area except for a few crappy garrison ships, and are now correcting the issue before the Feds cut supply to the Orion area).
3005: A big Klingon fleet (about 40 ships) attacking an undefended devastated planet.
3203: 19 Klingons attacking a BATS defended by 10 ships.

In Gorn space, the Romulans pile into the capital:

4402: 128 Romulans (and 91 fighters) against every Gorn on the map and 28 Federation FF's which have come to the rescue.
4203: 11 Romulans (who were out of range of the capital) killing a BATS of opportunity.
4705: 13 Romulans (who were out of range of the capital) capturing a minor planet of opportunity.

A few ships left to move, but this is most of the list.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Sunday, August 01, 2021 - 12:28 pm: Edit

In 4402:

The Romulan fleet is a little short of cruisers, because so many of them were crippled last turn. But they have 128 ships, including a lot of carriers, and they have four DN's to sit in formation and a metric derriere-ton of maulers. At 143 total SEQ, they have the meat.

The Gorns have 77 total SEQ, and a fair amount of this is 10 point cruisers, plus they have the DNT still up and running. In addition, the Federation has sent 28 ships, all frigates, to assist (one can imagine the Gorn high command's reaction to the "massive fleet of 28 ships" arriving and being all FF's). Still, 28 ships is a lot of ships, and it pushes the total Alliance SEQ over 100. It seems unlikely the Coalition can just drop damage given the Gorn Starbase is still up; the Alliance could spend 6-7 turns just crippling 5 point battlegroups and mauling big Romulans for free (the DNT can kill a KE on the line without using any 2 point damage.)

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Sunday, August 01, 2021 - 03:45 pm: Edit

Corrections and Reserves

In Hydran space, the Hydrans forgot to put their reserves in Reserve boxes, but had them segregated from AT14, so we went back and redid the Hydran theater with Reserves being a thing (it doesn't affect anything else, and it was neither fair to deny the Hydrans the reserves nor to force the Coalition to play out combat based on the assumption there were no reserves, and then getting ambushed by them.)

So in the Hydran theatre there are only two combat hexes:

0519, where a big bunch of powerful Lyrans are capturing a devastated, undefended planet, and
1017, where Klingons are fighting 9 Hydrans (6 of whom reacted in to avoid being similarly attacked in 11117.)

Reserves:

The Federation sends three full reserves to 3203, which will certainly save the hex if they choose but may or may not save the BATS, which the Klingons can potentially direct down.

The Federation sends a reserve to 2713, where it will save the hex and set the Klingons to flight, but probably not cut the Orion sector out of supply since the Klingons are forced to retreat to 2714, holding open 2813.

The Hydrans (!) have two Paladin led reserve forces heavy with good ships, and they each head to 0519 where a real fight is shaping up over a planet that, in the grand scheme of things, doesn't matter a whole lot.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Sunday, August 01, 2021 - 07:08 pm: Edit

Hydran Reserves have turned around inflight and are allowing 0519 to fall, presumably on the theory that without fixed defenses, they might as well fight there on AT15 when they can pick the forces from the entire fleet.

Otherwise, unchanged. Lots of futzing around because what with one thing and another we haven't started combat.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Saturday, August 28, 2021 - 03:00 pm: Edit

Combat is complete in one hex, but it's a doozy. After ten rounds of brutal combat, the Romulans have fled from 4402, leaving the drifting remnants of the Gorn shipyard starbase behind, along with bits and pieces of a lot of Romulan ships.
