So the Klingons ended econ with about 85 EPs in treasury (which is a lot). But this turn, they spent 12 EPs on drone bombardment and will likely spend upwards of 32 EPs on field repairs. Add in the 24 EPs of salvage they generated, and they end up with about 65 EPs in treasury. Which is a little more than the cost of a single Starbase, of which the Klingons are likely going to want to build 2 of pretty soon (one over 0617, one in southern Fed space, I'd imagine).
The Klingons. They are loaded, but all that money is likely spoken for.

The turn is over!
In Hydran space, the Coalition pulled most of their ships back to the staging area in 0815, spent 33 EPs on field repair between the Klingons and Lyrans, and then strat moved more ships there. About 150 ships (about 170 SEQ including fighters, etc.) are in 0815, including 2 solid coalition reserves. The Lyrans also have about 35 ships at SB 0411.
On the Kzinti front, the Coalition have about 20 ships sitting on planet 1001, and then most of their fleet in and around planet 1506.
On the Fed front, the Klingons pulled most of their ships back into Klingon space, to defend their hardpoints while reformulating their attack plans. They left a small force holding planet 2106, and have a supply path to the E4 in the Orion province. They have plenty of ships all along the border, and 3 solid reserves along the joint Kzinti/Fed border.

We are crafty!
AT7
Raids occurred and moves are underway. In the raid phase, the Alliance successfully raided 4 Lyran provinces (2 North, 2 South West) and 2 Klingon provinces (2 very South East).
On the Hydran front, the Hydrans have zero chance of getting into 0815 (where all the FRDs are), so they pinned the Lyrans at SB 0411, send a scratch force to go fight BATS 0109, captured some Lyran provinces, and have attacked planet 0718 and some province raiders in 1017 with forces that will hopefully dissuade the available reserves. At BATS 0109, the Hydrans have a minor compot advantage, butno scout, so it will be dicey (and no reserves can reach to defend it).
In Kzinti space, the Kzinti sent a liberation force to planet 1001 (about 18 Lyrans currently vs about 25 better Kzinti), sent a clean up force to get some raiders in 0802, and then then bulk of the Marquis force in 1704 attacked planet 1504 to liberate it. Currently 1504 has a few FFs, but a whole lot of Klingons can react in if they want.
The Feds have a lot of room to move, as there are few Klingons in Fed space, but not a lot to do, as attacking most of Klingon space is running headlong into fleets waiting for them. The Feds in Kzinti space moves back to try and liberate planet 2106 (which is held by some FFs); the 3rd Fleet at SB 2211 moves south to hit BATS 2215 where there is a FRD and some cripples. And then a fleet of 30+ ships. Most of the Fed Home Fleet moves to planet 2306 already. The Klingons have 19 ships in 2 reserves (split over 1509 and 1714) to further engage the Feds.
Still some ships to move.

AT7
Moves are done, and reserves have been deployed!
Not a lot of actual combat this turn.
On the Hydran front, 4 total battle hexes. A scratch force of the GRV and 5 various FFs against undefended BATS 0109, an obvious pinning fight over SB 0411, and two substantial battle lines beating up garrison forces over planet 0718 and in hex 1017. No Coalition reserves moved on this front.
On the Kzinti front, 3 total battle hexes. A mugging force beating up some province raiders in 0802, a larger and more capable force vs a smaller and less capable force over planet 1001, and then a giant fleet vs a few garrison FFs over planet 1504 (I wanted to retrograde ships that were at 1704 elsewhere, so they all attacked 1504, figuring the Klingons might have reacted their big fleet that was 2 hexes away, but they declined). Two of these fights were out of the range of reserves, and the third was where the Klingons declined to engage.
On the Fed front, only two battle hexes. The 4th Fleet rejoined (the 4th Reserve went to Kzinti space to help defend the Marquis SB on CT7) over planet 2106, where a small garrison force was joined by a single reserve ship (IIRC, there were 3 ships there, and now there are 4) and in hex 2315, most of the 3rd Fleet was stopped by a force that was on the neighboring BATS in 2215 it was moving towards. The Klingons reacted out the fleet of 30+ ships to meet the Feds (and keep them away from the FRD). The Feds could have squeezed through 4 or 5 ships to the BATS, but they they would have been clobbered by a reserve, so the Feds declined and just settled on a dumb open space fight. A reserve went to reinforce the Klingons there (and got closer to Fed targets).
The Klingons have mostly moved out of Fed space (other than planet 2106 and the Orion Enclave, it's like an invasion never happened :-), but the Feds didn't remotely have enough ships to be able to attack anything at all successfully (other than, again, planet 2106). I suspect that the Klingons will probably be moving in to stay on CT8.

Combat is well underway!
On the Hydran front, a scrappy group of forward deployed frigates killed Lyran BATS 0109--a GRV, SA, CU, 3HN battled the BATS over 6 rounds. The Hydrans had no EW, so a -1 shift the whole time, but a marginal compot advantage the whole time. The Hydrans scored a total of 22 damage (killing the BATS at that point), and took 21 damage in return (crippling the SA, all 3HN, and killing the 4 fighters). A scrappy fight that might even make a good SFB scenario!
Elsewhere, the Hydrans killed a couple FFs, liberating some provinces and planet 0718; they are currently offering an approach in front of SB 0411, which will probably be declined.
On the Kzinti front, the Kzinti are fighting over planet 1001, and have liberated planet 1504 (killing an E4 in the process).
Over on the Fed front, the Feds have liberated planet 2106 (killing an E4), and are fighting in open space in hex 2315, where they were (effectively) pinned away from BATS 2215.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Monday, September 20, 2021 - 06:05 pm: Edit |
It would be an interesting fight. I wonder what the total BPV for those Hydran ships vs the BATS would be.
Probably on paper the Hydrans win easily?

Combat is over!
Not that much happened. The Hydrans killed LYR BATS 0109, liberated planet 0718, and killed a province raider. The Kzinti liberated planets 1001 and 1504 and killed a province raider. The Feds liberated planet 2106 and killed an F5 in a dumb pin fight.
Ships Killed:
-ZIN: FF
-HYD:
-FED:
-LYR: CL, 2FF
-KLI: F5, 3E4
So a good exhange of hulls, but not much happened in general.

>>A scrappy fight that might even make a good SFB scenario!
I think this is where FE really shines as a scenario generator. The game can generate some really odd battles that the sides either want to fight or must fight. And it's not someone "making up" an odd fight, it's just an interesting natural byproduct of all the complicated on-map maneuvering.

The turn is over!
On the Hydran front, the Hydrans have about 60 ships in the capital, and about 50 ships at SB 0215 (including a mid sized reserve). There is another modest reserve off map, a few ships in the back field, and 6 ships holding provinces in southern Lyran space.
In Kzinti space, there are about 75 ships (including a solid reserve fleet) in 1401; another 50 some odd ships at SB 1704; 8 ships at planet 1802, 3 ships each at planets 1001 and 1202, and another modest reserve off map.
The Feds have 20 some odd ships at 2204; 30 ships at planet 2306 (most of the Home Fleet); 30+ ships at SB 2211. Two mid sized reserve at planet 2509 and a mid sized reserve at BATS 2609 (about 9 ships in each reserve).

Looking at the map, the Alliance seems to be in reasonably good shape. I've seen the map much more in the Coalition's favor at C7 and the Alliance still pulled a victory. Not saying the Alliance has it in the bag, mind you. There's many a slip between cup and lip.
Will continue to observe with interest.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 - 10:28 am: Edit |
I suspect that things will change drastically for the worse for the Alliance this turn :-)
I expect the Hydrans to lose their shipyard (it'll be costly, but the Coalition should be able to push them out) this turn, and I expect the Klingons to move in on and occupy a bunch of Fed space this turn as well. The Kzinti seem reasonably secure at press time, however.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 - 10:37 am: Edit |
CT8 (SP y172)
The Lyrans have about 130 EPs to spend this turn. They build DN, TGC, STJ, 3CW, DWS, 2DW, 3FF, SP. Convert a CW>STJ, CW>CWS. Spend 20 EPs on repair. End econ with about 30 EPs in treasury.
The Klingons have about 264 EPs to spend this turn (after salvage and Lyran economic aid, they ended last turn with 95 EPs in treasury, even spending 24 on field repair and 12 on drones). They build C8, TGA, D6M, D5V, 2AD5, D5S, 5D5, 2F5E, 4F5, 4E4, a pair of VP3 pods. Convert D6>D6M, D6>D6S, D6.D6D. Activate 2D6, 3E3A. Spend 23 Ep on repair. End econ[*] with about 100 EP in treasury.
[*] The Klingon economic team is currently considering spending a bunch of their surplus on overbuilds, and may do so before they start moving. 8D5 or a dozen F5s have been considered. The Klingons will need money in the near future for field repair (to keep the Hydrans contained if pushed out of their Capital this turn), drone bombardment, and building a Starbase or two, however. So we will see!
By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 - 10:39 am: Edit |
Sure, I've been following the game while cloaked. However, normally you'd like to see the Hydran capital fallen on C7 at the latest (C6 is preferable, but can be difficult to achieve depending on how hard the Hydran wants to fight). You also need a vigorous attack on the Federation, as otherwise it gets so many EP they can bounce back from any temporary gains.
I mean, it's possible, but AFAIK things are going reasonably well for the Alliance. I've seen better and I've seen worse for the Alliance, for sure. On a scale of 1-10 (with a "5" being too close to call) my unsolicited armchair quarterbacking (ill advised, without benefit of detailed analysis) says this one is a 6, favor Alliance.
YMMV
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 - 05:53 pm: Edit |
Ted I think so too.
Peter happily gives up SB for both Kzinti and Hydrans to have more ships in the Capitals than the Coalition have in range early on so the SB fall easily but the Capital attacks are delayed a turn.
The Hydrans will be removed this turn or he will fight so long he runs out of cruisers. I also need to get rid of SB 0215 so he stops annoying Lyran space.
The Kzinti need to lose the Marquis SB but I also have to go and redevastate all the Kzinti Capital planets to keep him poor.
The Feds are unlikely to lose 2 SB but will definitely lose 1. And I need to end the turn with heaps of ships in Fed space to start making him poor.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Thursday, September 23, 2021 - 11:09 am: Edit |
Like, again, I don't feel terrible about where the Alliance is currently. I was pleasantly surprised that the Hydrans got another build turn on T7, as I was expecting to get kicked out of 0617 on T7, but it turned out that the Coalition didn't actually have enough ships to get the SB and then push me out. But it seems very likely that the Hydrans will get pushed out this turn, unless the Hydrans feel like crippling their whole fleet to try and keep the homeworld (which, being the Hydrans, doesn't seem that likely...).
The Kzinti are in about the same place they always are at this point. If the Coalition rolls into 1401 this turn to redevastate planets, they'll probably successfully do so, and keep Kzinti income lower. There is a MB>BATS conversion over the Capital, but it is unlikely that the Coalition will feed a whole line of ships into the 300+ compot just to get a BATS upgrade.
The Feds are doing just fine currently, but I expect that to change drastically this turn, as the Klingons have a lot more ships available to occupy space now.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, September 25, 2021 - 08:13 am: Edit |
CT8
The Klingons decided not to overbuild anything.
No raids.
Moves are underway! On the Hydran front, the Coalition have moved 2 dozen ships to SB 0215 (where there are 64 SEQ to pin), attacked the Southern Lyran Province raiders, moved to retake planet 0718, and started pouring ships into the capital.
On the Kzinti front, the Coalition so far have moved a fleet to planet 1001 to retake it, but not much else.
On the Fed front, the Klingons sent a force to take neutral planet 1910, engaged BATS 2415 (defended by a lone CL), BATS 2612 (no defense at all), and planet 2715 (defended by the remnants of the 7th Fleet). They also moved 3 ships to retake planet 2106 which is in range of the 4th Fleet and most of the Home Fleet at planet 2306 which reacted 4 ships in to defend.
Plenty of ships to move!
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 - 05:19 pm: Edit |
CT7
The Klingons have reinforced their attack on planet 2106; the Feds reacted in enough ships from planet 2306 to form a solid line to trade hulls, but the Klingons certainly will take the planet. They have also started piling ships on SB 2211, which very possibly will explode this turn.
On the Kzinti front, the Lyrans moved about 35 ships onto planet 1504 (which is undefended, but under Kzinti control currently), giving the Kzinti to react off of SB 1704, but they declined.
No further developments in Hydran space, but there are still about 70 ships unmoved in range of 0617 (most of them are in hex 0815, so they can reach SB 0215 as well if they are inclined).

Moves are done and reserves have been deployed!
On the Hydran front, 4 battle hexes. Planet 0718 is being recaptured with no resistance; in 0312, a bunch of province raiders are set upon by a larger force; SB 0215 sees about 55 Hydrans facing about 40 Lyrans; 0617 sees about 60 Hydrans facing about 135 Coaltion ships.
In Kznti space, not much action with 2 battle hexes; planet 1001 is under attack by about 20 Lyrans and facing a similar number of Kzinti (both reserves), and planet 1504 is being retaken by dozens and dozens of Lyrans.
On the Fed front, 4 battle hexes. Planet 2106 is under attack by many Klingons, facing a single battle line; SB 2211 sees about 40 Feds facing about 80 Klingons; BATS 2414 sees about a dozen Feds fighting a dozen Klingons; planet 2715 sees about 20 Feds facing a few more and better Klingons.

On the Hydran front, a province raiding HN has been whacked, and the Lyrans offered a declined approach over SB 0215 and left.

On the Fed front, the Klingons captured planet 2715 (killing 2PDU and a CL in the process).
Numerous big fights left!
