The Coalition has ended turn 15, accepting that exhaustion is upon it.

Reserves are :

2 strong Lyran reserves in 1401 (where there is a Klingon Starbase going up (again));
1 Decent Lyran reserve in 0416.
1 Klingon reserve in 0718
1 Klingon reserve in 0615
1 Klingon reserve in 2106
1 Klingon reserve in 2505
2 Romulan reserves (one strong, one very decent) sitting on the FRD park and MB in 4107.
1 Romulan reserve (leftovers) on planet 3912.

The Lyrans have supply tugs in 2304 and 1708 to ensure continued supply to the FRD park in 2204.

The Lyrans are putting up a PDU in 1001, which may go unnoticed if the Capital is attacked, or not.

The Klingons have planted 4 more PDUs on Kzintai (total of 12 now - they'd love to put them elsewhere, but the Starbase isn't up yet!).

The Romulans are fixing cripples as far back as Remus...

Federation Economics Alliance Turn 15

[From Trent]

On map I have 45 (on) +59 (cap)=104
Plus 12.45 in salvage then - 6.5 in repairs and another .125 in starting treasury equals a grand total of 110.075.
I built a bunch of little ships for little attacks. I also built a dn and a few ncls to add to my big fleet. In all, I built DN,24xFF,NCA,NCL, 3xDW
I did my scout conversions using cl’s now instead of the more scarce (at this point) DD’s.
Ending treasury .575
Off map, the Feds built FCR,Command Point, ending with 24.5 EP remaining in the off map main grid.

Kzinti Economics Alliance Turn 15

The Kzinti earn 29 EPs off map, and take delivery of 20 EPs from the Federation, as well as adding 3 EPs from salvage. They began the turn with .875 EPs in treasury.

They build NCA, 3xMEC, 2xDW, FFK, DWE, BC and end the turn with 4.875 EP in treasury. They had no repairs or other construction this turn.

Hydran Economics Alliance Turn 15

On map I made 3xHR,2xTG,DE,2xFFT.

I need to get eps from the off map and need ships to defend, so the Hydrans made some ships, made a fcr off map, and are preparing to again bring EPs on map to the Capital via tugs.

The Hydrans built their 19th PDU in the Capital since they had the available EPs this turn.

Pretty simple. Build the stuff, including maulers for defense since they are allowed.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Sunday, September 26, 2021 - 10:47 pm: Edit

Alliance Turn 15 involves significant combat. In Gorn space, only one combat hex: The Federation slipped a boatload of FF's and a few NCL's into the Romulan FRD park. The Roms obviously thought these were headed to 4402, as they didn't arrange to pin them out of the FRD park and MB in 4107 came under attack by a decent sized but low quality Federation fleet.

Elsewhere, in Federation space, the Feds attack targets of opportunity, beating up on some isolated ships and small garrisons but avoiding most of the Klingon fleet on its significant defensive positions like 2305 and 2504.

The Hydrans retake 0519 without opposition but otherwise stay out of trouble.

The Kzinti come into 1401 with the full fleet, clearly intending to stop the Starbase upgrade... again.

The only real fight was in the aforementioned bloodbath in 4107, where the Feds took a ton of cripples and lost 10 FF's to kill two FRD's and deal some additional random damage to the Romulan cripples (and reserves who showed up to defend them). The Romulans hadn't even considered the possibility that this obvious pinning force of a couple NCL and 20 FFs would actually attack something that had reserves in range, have the reserves actually show up, and then stay and fight.

[As it happens, I thought then and still think the price was too high, but Trent wanted those FRDs.]

1401 next!

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Monday, October 04, 2021 - 11:10 am: Edit

1401 was a predictable bloodbath. Dice started out okay on approach (Coalition 3-2-3 in three rounds against alliance 4-5-4) with an Alliance advantage that meant nothing because the Alliance was just putting up frigates to get crippled until they got in.

Over Kzintai, the dice went absolutely nuts. Seeing that the Kzinti had 112 COMPOT, the Lyrans decided not to try to protect the base with low BIR and went BIR 4, resulting in a net BIR of 8. Then the Kzinti rolled a '5' allowing them to vaporize the base in one round, while the Coalition's '4' allowed them to vaporize an entire carrier group in return (the CVA was and is fine, a CV group died here).

Predictably, in its third round of combat in anger, the STL shocks out for the second time.

Having this success, the Kzinti decide to stick another round and kill PDUs. This time, their luck runs out - BIR rolls up, the Coalition rolls a '6', and they take 119 damage "And an autokill," (as if it mattered), crippling their entire line and requiring a bunch of self kills.

Pursuit is also predictably painful:

Retrograde is coming.

Slow progress as we lost another half-turn to a power outage and had to reconstruct the board. I'm glad I take notes.

[Now that I look at it, my spreadsheet notes are missing the minus points for the Coalition in pursuit - since those are limited to three, the result is the same. In addition, the STL shocking out should be reflected on the fourth round (the first time the Coalition used a Mauler), probably because there wasn't room in the cell due to all the dying Kzinti.]

AT15 is over.

The Federation mostly retreats back to the Capital, abandoning most of the planets we have been fighting over to reoccupation.

The Gorns are in 4402, preparing for round three of the assault.

The Hydrans are also in their capital, and the Kzinti are in the offmap.

The Federation and Gorns, relevantly, use all their joint strategic movement to bring CVA+escorts+FCR's to the Gorn Capital.

Coalition Turn 16 Economy (Lyran Star Empire)

As usual, the Lyrans build their schedule, convert one very large ship, and do a bunch of maintenance work for the Klingons, as per their treaty (apparently). The Lyrans repaired Klingons, only Klingons, and the Klingons did not repair any Klingons this turn. The only crippled Lyrans are in 1401 (where of course there is no repair capacity at all.)

75% exhaustion is now included in the spreadsheet formulas for all Coalition factions.

The lack of repairs in recent turns has really assisted in permitting the Coalition to keep the pedal down.

Coalition Turn 16 Economy (Klingon Empire)

The Klingons catch a breath and successfully upgrade their battleship, not that it will likely see a lot of action in the very near future, with the Federation content to trade the same few planets for the last few turns and to make progress mostly by murdering province raiders every turn.

Other than that, it turns out that (to my eyes) upgrading D5's to DW's isn't a terrible deal, so we do some of that.

3 PDUs will replace those destroyed in 1401.

Coalition Turn 16 Economy (Romulan Empire)

The Romulans would have liked to spend a lot more EPs on repairs, but with two dead FRD's and a shortage of capacity anyway, that isn't happening. They do get to use the "plasma exception" which I was glad I remembered, once.

They start replacing the fleet of maulers that died en masse last turn, but it will take a bit.

The Romulans are foreseeably going to need some cash from somewhere... or some help.

Coalition Raids Turn 16

Klingons raid the Feds with a CF each to 3201 and 3308, each time against abstract POLs.

Romulans raid the Gorns with an FFH each to 4201 and 4707, again opposed by abstract police ships.

In each hex the POL is at -4 and the fast cruiser at +2:

3201: Klingons roll 7+2=9 (2 Casualties), Federation rolls 4 - 4 = 0 (no casualties)
3308: Klingons roll 11+2=13 (6 Casualties), Federation rolls Federation rolls 10 - 4 = 6 (1 casualty)
4707: Romulans roll 11+2=13 (6 Casualties), Gorn rolls 11 - 4 = 7 (1 casualty)
4008: Romulans roll 11+2=13 (6 Casualties), Gorn rolls 11 - 4 = 7 (1 casualty)

Thus, all but the raid in 3201 fail, since the defender's roll is a lot more important!

CT16 Operational Moves have begun.

So far the Coalition has dropped some absurd number of ships on the Hydran capital, and attacked the Hydran ships in 1117 and the undefended planet at 0519.

Coalition intentions in the Capital are probably deductible from the fact that nearby Aux Carriers did NOT arrive with the fleet (although there's nothing stopping them following) and this being the fourth turn since the outer planets were devastated.

But who knows!

The Hydran reserves are pinned in 0617.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Monday, October 11, 2021 - 11:50 am: Edit

[As an aside, three repairs by the Klingons were discovered after econs were posted. The Klingons also repaired 2xAD5, E4 at Starbase 2318 for four additional EPs.]

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 - 01:07 am: Edit

Moves continue, now accumulating in Federation space. It appears that after having drained Southern Federation Space almost entirely over several turns, the Klingons are now going to pay attention again (in part because the skeleton crew in the South wasn't going to be able to reopen supply to the Orion zone).

The C8V Vindicator and about twenty ships are facing off with a battle line of Feds in 2714, a Klingon D6 has stepped back on undefended planet in 2715 (these battle hexes are NOT in range of the four strong reserves in the Capital).

In 2808 another C8V group that didn't have a really good target is attacking a small stack of Feds who were floating around apparently looking for a fight.

In 2810 a decent sized Klingon fleet is attacking several Feds on the planet, and a small fleet is attacking three Feds in 2711.

Moves continue; lots of Klingons left to move, and all the Romulans.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Saturday, October 16, 2021 - 04:13 pm: Edit

Coalition Operational Movement

In Hydran space, three combat hexes:

0519: Four Lyrans stepping on an undefended and devastated planet.
0617: 220+ Lyrans and Klingons against 160+ Hydrans, over a bunch of planets denuded of PDUs but about to recover from devastation and the SB+20 PDU at Hydrax.
1117: A battle line of Klingons against a few Hydran CWs and FFs

In Federation space, the Klingons spread out and try to hit everything that isn't nailed down (that is, everything that isn't within 2 of Earth):

2608: Several wandering Feds being attacked by a Klingon force led by C8V Apocalypse.
2610: Almost 30 Klingons attacking a force of four Federation FFs led by a CA, defending the planet.
2711: Ten Klingons attacking four Feds.
2714: 20 Klingons led by C8V Vindicator against ten Feds that reserved into the area last turn.
3005: Five Klingons led by a D5 retaking an undefended devastated planet.
3203: A decent fleet of Klingons (27 ships with carriers and fighters) attacking the BATS that links the Feds to the off map area.
3206: Six Klingons (2xD6,4xE4) attacking a BATS.
3211: The Romulan first Star Legion (10 Ships) against 3 Feds (and maybe four more that can react in - waiting for this response)
3306: A reinforced battle line of Klingons attacking a major planet with 4 PDUS where a pile of crippled FF's returning from Romulan space are parked.

3509: The Romulan Second Star Legion (9 ships) attacking a devastated planet defended by 5 Feds (2xCA 3xFF).

In Gorn Space:

4402: Approximately 160 Feds and Gorns (including 20 Gorn Cripples) defend the shipyard from about 90 Romulans, all fixed defenses having been deleted previously. Given the numbers the Gorns will certainly win, but the actual balance of forces is closer than the numbers, as the Gorns and Feds have a -lot- of 5 COMPOT ships and will be giving away EW and fighters.

In noncombat movement, the Klingons move some repairs that weren't on an SMN this turn to captured planet 2509, the Lyrans retreat their cripples from 1401 towards repair, and the Romulans shift some FF's around to more efficiently garrison provinces.

The only operational movement left is the Romulans figuring out where all their ruined ships (something like 38 cripples just in 4107) are going to go to meet mechanically inclined Romulans or subject peoples.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Saturday, October 16, 2021 - 05:08 pm: Edit

All four Federation reserves head to hex 3203 to protect the lifeline to the off map area. With the Hydrans and Gorns fighting in their capital hexes and all quiet on the Kzinti front, these are the only relevant Reserves.

The Romulans took a fairly efficiency minded approach, making no attempt to take the shipyard against the odds this turn and instead shooting for the biggest hulls they could after killing the various Federation escorts necessary to push the CVA off the line. They had an EW advantage throughout, and took fighters aggressively to protect their ships. As a result, after a brutal pursuit round, they had only a few additional cripples (although the Romulans will be running their repair capacity for a turn or two just to clear the backlog.

Elsewhere, the Klingons took advantage of the Federation bunkering in the capital and in Gorn space to spread further toward the Gorns themselves, and also to reoccupy the southern Federation channel to the Orion sector, which had been in danger of being cut off for a couple of turns.

Hydran space was pretty quiet; the big battle in 0617 ended up amounting to a couple rounds of approach, and then the Hydrans hung out at Hydrax while the Coalition dropped rocks from orbit on all the poor Hydran outer planets. Hydrax retains 20 PDU and the entire Hydran fleet (less a couple of stragglers) as protection.

CT16 is over.

The Coalition has reserves in 0416, 2106, 2405, and 4107, and the Romulans have pretty much every base within twelve of 4402 repairing ships this turn (looks like the total is 55.5 EP).

An important note:

The Klingon conquest of BATS 3206 and planet 3306 this turn means that there is no SMN link between the Federation and Gorn capitals. This is essential because it means no new reinforcements from the capital. The Federation does have one fleet within 12 of 4402 however, at BATS 3203 (Essentially four full reserves from CT16 that chased off a significant Klingon fleet.) So they can still get those into the Gorn capital if they want, with BATS 3804 still alive to support them.

Further Note:

[I neglected this in my write up, and I usually include placement of fixed defenses, so:]

In strategic movement the Klingons replaced the three dead PDUs on 1401 (Kzintai) and the Lyrans schlepped a Mobile Base to the same location and began setting it up.

[Deja Vu all over again.]
