Between salvage and Lyran foreign aid, the Klingons ended CT8 with something like 130 EPs in treasury. After spending, like, 20 EPs on drones and 24 EPs on field repair.
Granted, they are likely going to want to build a couple SBs soon (one in Hydran space and one in Fed space, I'd imagine), and there is going to be a big E3 bill coming down the pike soon (I think they have to pony up to 40 EPs for the 16 E3s they are keeping/activating on T10). But the Coalition have a *lot* of money still.

AT8
Raids and moves are underway (all the raids were places that didn't effect op moves yet).
In the Raid phase, the Alliance sent 6 raids into Klingon provinces, in places where the only things that could react to the raids are POLs or IFFs from neighboring BATS, although in one hex, the Klingons can theoretically react a TGA to go fight a Kzinti DNL, which seems unlikely.
In Hydran space, the Hydrans have a grand total of 139 SEQ that can make it to hex 0815 (including all fighters and fast bonuses). The Coalition have 148 SEQ in 0815 that can react out, so that is not a viable target. As such, so far the Hydrans have sent a force to attack some province raiders on the East edge of Hydran space and sent a lot of ships back into 0617 (as there isn't much else for them to hit, and retrograding will be handy). The Hydran survivors from 0617 couldn't really reach any other Coalition targets--they'd be pinned trying to get to BATS 1214; a pair of LGEs could make it to BATS 1417, but a couple modest reserves to get there from 0815 (that could not be otherwise pinned). The 2nd Fleet at 0215 could reach SB 0411, but with about 45 ships there defending it, doesn't seem like now is the time to try and kill it.
On the Kzinti front, the Kzinti sent the Marquis Fleet from 1704 to Klingon BATS 1807 (where there are about 63 SEQ of Klingons), where they linked up with a bunch of Feds from around planet 2106. They are attacking some province raiders in the West edge of ZIN space, and also sent a reasonable attack force to hit Lyran BATS 0502, which can be defended by a force at BATS 0504, but it seems like the Kzinti will have the upper hand there. There are a lot of ships in the Kzinti capital still available to move.
The Feds sent ships to go hit BATS 1807 with the ZIN, moved the remains of the 3rd Fleet mostly to liberate planet 2106; in the South, the remains of the 7th Fleet and some ships that saved BATS 2414 converged on Klingon held planet 2715 (which is held by a token force). Most Fed ships have moved, and did so without giving the Klingons an opportunity to react. Which also means that they avoided most of the Klingon fleets inside the border (other than 1807).

In the raid phase, the Alliance successfully raided 6 Klingon provinces.
Op Moves are done and reserves have (not) deployed.
On the Hydran front, 2 battle hexes. The Hydrans will take back the Capital hex (for now) and kill a province raider in the Esat edge of Hydran space. They are also capturing 2 Lyran Southern provinces.
On the Kzinti front, 4 battle hexes. A Kzinti advantaged fight over Lyran BATS 0502; the Kzinti will kill a province raider in 0903, liberate planet 1105, and there is a big fight over Klingon BATS 1807 with the Feds linking up.
In Fed space, 2 battle hexes (plus 1807), where the Feds will liberate planets 2106 and 2715.
The Coalition didn't move any reserves, as they weren't likely to make a difference, and on the Kzinti front, 3 reserves could have gone to 1807, but they probably weren't going to make a big difference, and they probably wanted to stay in range of 1401.

The turn is over!
Combat didn't see a ton of things happen; the Hydrans recaptured their Capital, but it was only held by a token force; the Kzinti killed Lyran BATS 0502 with a big die roll and dropping a bunch of damage on top of killing an FF, losing an SF in return; they also killed a few province/garrison ships. The Feds liberated planets 2106 and 2715, killing some E4s.
The one potentially big fight was over KLI BATS 1807, where a ton of Kzinti met up with a bunch of Feds to try and go kill the BATS, but, well, it was not to be. The Klingons used a command point; in the approach, the ZIN/FED force had a compot of 119 including drone bombardment and a Fed CVA group, the Klingons had a compot of 113 including the command point and some drone bombardment and then...the ZIN rolled a 1 while the KLI rolled a 6. They mauled an FF on the CVA group, and I had to absorb 32 more damage, so I just burned all the fighters, crippled a CC, left a couple plus points, and left, figuring the BATS wasn't going anywhere. I could have stuck it out and kept fighting, but with that bad of an early exchange, and it being not unlikely I was going to have to fight through 3 approach battles (as I could only score more damage with equal or better dice, and my compot was going down anyway), and it wasn't worth the investment at that point.
Ships Killed:
-ZIN: SF
-HYD:
-FED: FF
-LYR: 2FF
-KLI: F5S, 5E4
Lyrans also lost a BATS.
After retrogrades and strat moves:
-The Hydrans have a dozen ships over 0617, about 20 at planet 0519, about 70 ships at SB 0215 (including a full reserve), and then a moderate reserve off map.
-The Kzinti have a dozen+ ships at planet 1001; about 70 ships (including a full reserve) at 1401; about 55 ships at SB 1704; a few small groups of ships at some planets, and then a moderate reserve off map.
-The Feds have about 50 ships (including a full reserve) at SB 2204; about 25 ships at planet 2306; about 30 ships at planet 2715; a full reserve at planet 2606 and a solid reserve at planet 2610.
The Kzinti went and picked up 20 EPs from the Feds.

The Lyrans have about 140 EPs to spend in Econ. They build BC, STT, 3CW, CWE, DW, DWE, DWS, 3FF, VP+; convert CM>CWS, CW>STJ; spend 4 EPs on repairs. They end Econ with about 70 EPs.
The Klingons have about 250 EPs to spend in Econ. They build D7C, D7V, D6M, AD5, D5S, 7D5, F5E, 3F5, 5E4; activate 2D6, E3A; convert D6>D6M, D6>D6S; spend about 10 EPs on repairs. They end Econ with about 115 EPs in treasury.

Wow - what are they saving for?
They could both overbuild 6 CW/D5's and 6 F5's and still have small reserves....
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, October 24, 2021 - 01:45 pm: Edit |
I'm imagining that it is the 2+ starbases they will be building in the very near future, the 40EPs the Klingon have to pay next turn for all the E3s they have put on the board and are keeping (i.e. 16 extra E3 hulls on the map, which is cheaper than overbuilding 16 E4s, even with the activation cost for a handful of them).

No raids. Moves are underway; on the Hydran front, the Coalition have sent ships to recapture planet 0718, sent a significant fleet into 0617 (which is certainly recapture it), and rounded up the province raiders in Southern Lyran space. Plenty left to move.
On the Kzinti front, the Coalition moved plenty of ships onto planet 1001, and will retake it, and have recaptured some provinces.
On the Fed front, the Klingons have moved on neutral planet 2214, but not much else yet.
Lots of ships left to go places!
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Saturday, October 30, 2021 - 04:04 am: Edit |
So - can the Coalition hold 617 when they recapture it?
Can the Coalition also kill 215? Keeping 617 will be more difficult while that SB lives....
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, October 30, 2021 - 08:11 am: Edit |
The Coalition can probably hold 0617 if they move all their ships there from 0815 (which would require moving the FRDs from 0815 to somewhere else, as otherwise, they get killed, but they can certainly do that if they are so inclined).
They can't *also* kill SB 0215, as to do that, they'd need to send most of their ships to 0215 instead of 0617, and then that would leave 0617 vulnerable to the Hydrans taking it back.
They have enough ships in Hydran space to pin the Hydrans out of 0617 if they move them all to 0617. But until they control 0617, they can't retrograde there. So they probably just need to park all their ships on 0617 this turn, and move the FRDs in 0815 back into Klingon space for now.

Speaking as a guy who has so far only played the Coalition, designing the topology of a battlefront such that FRD's can't be attacked is probably the single activity that has occupied the most additional time - relative to my expectations about this game - of all.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, October 31, 2021 - 08:21 am: Edit |

As moves continue, the Coalition just poured about 100 SEQ into the Kzinti capital hex; the Kzinti have 111 SEQ in the hex, including 20 PDU fighters, so the Kzinti can't react out to pin them, but the reserve in the Capital isn't currently pinned. Most of the planets in the Kzinti capital are about to recover from their most recent devastation, so seems likely this is a devastation raid.
Lots of things left to move.

One reason I early on stopped forward deploying FRD's and just either used field repair and/or waited the extra turn for the ships to move to repair areas. Plus I got tired of losing FRD's.

The Coalition moved a whole lot of ships, finished movement, and reserves have been deployed.
In Hydran space, there are 3 battle hexes. In 0617, there are upwards of 140 SEQ of Coalition moving in to push about 30 Hydrans out of the hex and likely keep it. The Coalition moved their FRDs back to Klingon space. The Coalition sent a few ships to planet 0416, which is going to be saved by a moderate Hydran reserve, and the Hydrans sent a pretty solid reserve to go fight in southern Lyran space, defending some province raiders (they'll fight a round and retreat, but now there are a dozen and a half Hydrans in range of the interior of Lyran space he needs to worry about).
In Kzinti space, 3 battle hexes; the Coalition sent about 100 SEQ into the Kzinti Capital (likely to redevastate planets), a significant force will take planet 1001 back, and a small Kzinti reserve will save planet 1105 from a small group of ships.
Lots of action on the Fed front, with 7 battle hexes. Planet 2106 will be recaptured, neutral planet 2214 will be captured, BATS 2308 and BATS 2414 will both be destroyed. Planet 2715 sees a large Klingon force fighting a smaller, but not insignificant Fed force, and will likely be recaptured. Planet 2306 sees a large Klingon force facing a large Fed force, including most of the ships that were on SB 2204 and a reserve (about 50 Klingons vs about 70 Feds and 4PDUs); planet 2509 sees about 15 Klingons vs a couple reserves and 2PDUs (likely advantage Fed).

Combat is well under way.
On the Hydran front, the Lyrans and Hydrans had a brief skirmish in hex 0110, seeing both sides lose a small ship and the Hydrans run, but there are now about 20 Hydrans in southern Lyran space, which they will at least need to worry about. The Hydrans saved planet 0416 with a reserve, lost planet 0718, and have been pushed out of their Capital after a single round of combat by a giant Coalition force that seems set on living there
In Kzinti space, the Coalition recaptured planet 1001, and plant 1105 was saved by a reserve.
On the Fed front, the Klingons killed BATS 2414, captured neutral planet 2214, and pushed the Feds off of planet 2715 without much effort, recapturing it.
Numerous fights left to go.

The Coalition are currently redevastating the non Capital planets in 1401. The Kzinti are fighting most of the fights, killing some small ships while the Coalition redevestate the planets. Both sides are taking cripples as well, but nothing real drastic has happened one way or the other.

Combat is over!
In Hydran space, the Coalition moved a giant pile of ships (125 hulls, plenty of fighters including AuxCVs) into the Hydran capital (likely meaning to move in permanently), chasing the Hydrans out. They recaptured planet 0718. Were chased off from planet 0416. The Hydrans have 18 unimpressive ships in the south edge of Lyran space which, if left ignored, 'could wreak some havoc.
In Kzinti space, the Coalition redavastated all the non capital planets in 1401 (the homeworld still has 20 PDUs, a SB, a BATS), retreated onto planet 1502, recapturing that (the Kzinti forgot to leave a few ships there to force a fighting retreat from that hex...), recaptured planet 1001, were chased away from planet 1105.
On the Fed front, the Klingons recaptured planets 2106 and 2715, killed BATS 2308, BATS 2414, were chased away from planet 2509, and at planet 2306, they mauled 4PDUs and fled, leaving -23 points in dead fighters in their wake.

The turn is over!
On the Hydran front, there are a ton of Coalition ships in 0617; the Lyrans have about 35 ships at SB 0411, a 5 ship reserve at the Lyran capital, another 4 ships at planet 0509, and another 4 ship Lyran reserve in hex 1013. The Hydrans have 19 largely unimpressive ships in hex 0211 that can reach the interior of Lyran space this turn, but if they attack anything, they'll end the turn out of supply.
On the Kzinti front, the Coalition hold a lot of Kzinti space and some planets, but most of their ships are in and around planet 1506. There is a 6 ship Klingon reserve in 1307 and a 9 ship Klingon reserve in hex 1807, likely aiming for Fed space.
On the Fed/Klingon front, most Klingon ships pulled back to the Klingon front, but there are 34 ships in hex 2308 (i.e. 6 hexes from Earth), and there are about 50 ships holding planet 2715. The Klingons hold numerous Fed provinces and planet 2106 as well.

During the raid phase, the Alliance successfully raided 7 Coalition provinces (3 Lyran, 4 Klingon).
Operational moves have started. On the Hydran front, the Hydrans moved ships to attack/pin the force at SB 0411, consolidated their hold on Southern Lyran provinces, and moved a bunch of ships that were originally in the ex-Hydran capital to go attack some province raiders (i.e. likely just so they can retrograde places).
On the Kzinti front, where the Coalition are largely on the border, and there aren't many reserve forces, the Kzinti sent a large fleet to KLI BATS 1807 (about 70 SEQ on each side currently), either to attack the BATS or just pin a reserve there; and have sent modest forces attacking small Coalition province garrisons all over the map so far.
On the Fed front, the Feds have just moved to pin the 30 some odd ships in the middle of Fed space, but have plenty of ships left to move.

Op moves are done, and I'm waiting for reserves.
On the Hydran front, there are only 2 battle hexes--a clear pinning fight over SB 0411 and a clear retrograding fight where a giant pile of Hydran ships (that couldn't really reach anything other than the whole Coalition fleet over 0617 that was 5 times their size) killing a province raiding FF in hex 0415. The Lyrans have 2 small reserves that can move, but one of them probably won't move, and the other might just go to SB 0411 to no effect.
On the Kzinti front, a lot of excitement with 7 battle hexes; KLI BATS 0906 is under attack by about 20 Kzinti. It is currently defended by about 7 small ships, and a couple small reserves can reach it. Planet 1001 will see a Lyran FF die and the small force flee; 0802 will see a Lyran FF die and the small force flee; hexes 1304, 1504, and 1502 all have moderate forces attacking province raiders and/or planet garrisons--a reserve can get to any of these, but it won't help; KLI BATS 1807 sees almost 100 Kzinti and Fed facing about 70 Klingons.
The Feds are involved in 2 other combat hexes--2307 sees a big Fed force facing a smaller, but still significant, Klingon force; planet 1910 sees about 30 Feds attacking a reserve and possibly a neighboring force that could react in. The Klingons have reserves in 1807 (which is fully pinned), 1910 (which is currently pinned, but might become partially unpinned) and 2214, which is small and can only get to 1910. But the Klingon reserves are unlikely to change any outcomes.
