For the sake of illustration, as of right this second, the Romulans have 83 SEQ (of which there are 46 fighters) and then another 17 SEQ of reserves (and then even another 5 reserve ships that can reach a few border stations) on the Gorn border (so about 100 SEQ of Romulans, including a lot of fighters and numerous maulers). On top of the BATS and SB defenses.
The Gorn, on T12, can reach the interior of Romulan space with a grand total of 55 SEQ of ships, of which there are *zero* fighters available to take damage on. So the Romulans can meet the Gorn with about 2:1 ship advantage, on top of bases. What are the Gorn going to *possibly* do effectively on the Romulan border in the face of this?
The Gorn will do *something* certainly--they already moved some ships into Fed space to attack some Romulans in Fed space. But attacking into Romulan space at this point is total madness.

In the raid phase, the Alliance successfully raided 6 coalition provinces, and failed to kill a lone E4 with a DNL at planet 2214 when a squadron of fighters from a neighboring BATS showed up, and they they rolled well (I rolled a 6 with +1, he rolled an 11 with a -4, so I killed the fighters and was forced to retreat).
Plenty of op moves have happened. In Hydran space, the Hydrans pinned the Lyrans at SB 0411, recaptured some Lyran space, and are attacking some province raiders in 0318 and 0615.
In Kzinti space, the Kzinti are moving all of their ships to engage and/or pin all the Coalition in and around planet 1407. There are a lot of Coalition there (possibly more than I had originally counted...).
On the Fed/Klingon front, the Feds are engaging plenty of province raiders and planet garrisons, and sent a significant force to BATS 1807.
On the Fed/Romulan front, the Feds are engaging numerous small groups of Romulans province raiders and planet garrisons, and have attacked the Romulans holding planet 3912.
The Gorns sent a force to help liberate planet 3711, but otherwise haven't moved many ships.

Op moves are done, waiting for reserves to deploy, but there aren't any that will really change any outcomes (most are pinned, the ones that aren't are generally small and can only go to fights where they will continue to be outgunned).
In Hydran space, 3 battle hexes. SB 0411 is a pin fight, hexes 0318 and 0615 see significant Hydran lines attacking province raiders. The Klingons have a solid reserve that can go to either, but probably won't make much of a difference either way; the Lyrans have a good reserve that can go to SB 0411, and probably will, but also won't make much difference.
In Kzinti space, there are 5 battle hexes, all around 1407 with lots of pinning of ships. The Kzinti got about 14 ships to SB 1509, but the Klingons have about the same number of ships there, so mostly just a lot of wasted effort to pin some reserves. The Kzinti moved almost every ship they have, so will have very limited reserve this turn. It is possible that the Kzinti did a lot of ship counting, started moving, convinced that they could get about two dozen ships to SB 1509 and probably kill it, and then once all the moves started, it turned out they had somehow miscounted pin numbers by about a dozen, so there are basically a whole bunch of big pin fights holding down reserves, but not much will actually happen.
On the Fed/Klingon front, 7 battle hexes. BATS 1807 is under attack by about 50 Feds, and there are about 35 Klingons there, so they might kill the BATS. There are 6 battle hexes of larger numbers of Feds vs small numbers of province raiders or planet garrisons (2106, 2509, 3210). A small Klingon reserve can reach some of these, but they won't change the outcomes.
On the Fed/Romulan front, 4 battle hexes. Planets 3612 and 3711 will be liberated, some province raiders might get killed. The Romulans have a small reserve that can get involved, but probably won't.
The Gorn sent about a dozen ships to planet 3711, but otherwise just moved ships inside their space, shoring up defense of their 2 forward SBs and grabbing a bunch of NZ hexes.

Combat is well underway.
In the "kill a bunch of FFs with larger forces" phase, the Alliance managed to kill 11 small Coalition ships when the Romulans failed 50% of their cloaked evasion attempts.
In Hydran space, not much happened--the Hydrans killed a couple E4s (losing nothing in return), and fled from a declined approach over SB 0411.
In Fed space, the Feds killed a lot of Coalition frigates, have liberated planets 2106, 3210, 3612, and 3711. They fought a round over planet 3912, trading an FF for an SKF and then retreated over some province raiders (which may or may not result in another dead FF). The Feds finally killed KLI BATS 1807 (after, like, 5 turns of trying), rolling well in the approach, and at the BATS, BIR ended up at 10 and the Feds rolled a 5, seeing the Klingons roll a 2 or 3, just missing killing a [CVL, DE, FFE] group. The Feds vaporized the BATS, losing a TGS in return.
Kzinti space is a big weird mess of pinning fights and complicated retreats, but in the end, not much will actually happen.

Shame you can't have a +1/-1 modifier if you roll really well or really badly, to help get back to average?

Heh, yeah, it all seemed like a good plan at the time, but then once I started moving and the Coalition started pinning me, I was all "Huh. This isn't working out the way I had intended..."
On the upside, I did pin 2 significant Coalition reserves which could have possibly foiled my attack on BATS 1807, so I'll claim some sort of tactical victory? That being said, the vast majority of the Kzinti fleet is now involved in a lot of absurd fights and chain retreats (that are accomplishing nothing, as the Coalition is also chain retreating, so we keep retreating to the same spots and doing another fight and another retreat, but nothing important is happening). On the downside, the Kzinti only have, like, a tiny number of ships available to be reserves this turn.
>>Shame you can't have a +1/-1 modifier if you roll really well or really badly, to help get back to average?>>
It all evens out, generally speaking. The Coalition rolled nuts in fights where it mattered last turn, I rolled well in a few fights where it mattered this turn, the Romulans are down on cloaked evasions, but will probably swing up at some point in the future.

In Hydran space, not much happened. A couple E4s died, the Hydrans pinned ships at SB 0411, allowing the Hydrand to capture space again.
In Kzinti space, the big mess around hex 1407 resulted in some ship attrition, lots of weird retreating, but otherwise not much; the Coalition ended up retreating cripples off of the SB in 1407, so they won't get repaired this turn. Which is something.
In Fed space, the Feds recaptured numerous planets and a bunch of space, killed a bunch of small ships, and finally killed BATS 1807.
The Gorn didn't enter Romulan space, but did help out in Fed space.

The turn is over!
On the Hydran front, the Hydrans have about 85 ships (and a billion fighters and some Auxes, including a moderate reserve) at SB 0215; about 20 ships in/around hex 0318; a dozen ships holding Lyran space; another modest reserve off map.
The Kzinti pulled a lot of ships back to the Capital this turn, where they have about 170 SEQ (not 100% sure if it is enough to pin the Coalition out or not yet); they have about 20 ships at each planets 1202 and 1105; the Feds sent a dozen ships to help hold planet 1802. There is a single, 2 ship reserve off map.
The Fed also pulled a lot of ships back to Earth, where they have 100+ ships in and around 2908, including 2 strong reserves. They have about 60 ships including a solid reserve at SB 2204; a full reserve at SB 3604; about 40 ships at planet 3509, more ships in various spots around the map. The Coalition have about 100 ships in hex 2914 (on top of a pair of about to be finished SBs), which are conveniently in range of Earth, if the Klingons decide to conquer Orion.
The Gorn have about 45 ships at SB 4206, about 35 ships at SB 4806; 2 strong reserves at Capital 4403. The Romulans have about 50 ships that can reach the interior of Gorn space this upcoming turn (and then another billion that can reach the border BATS), so the SBs are probably safe for now.
The Feds sent the Gorn 20EPs. The Kzinti and Fed both sent the Gorns some second string carriers (a couple CVLs and the DDV) and some off brand escorts for fighter support and adoption.

The Gorn couldn't do anything real significant to the Romulans this turn, as the Romulans had a whole lot of ships in Romulan space. But, on the upside, this meant that the Feds didn't have that difficult of a time reclaiming a lot of space--as of the end of AT12, the Coalition only hold about 10 Fed border provinces, and only hold a single Fed planet (2715). I mean, they'll take plenty of it back next turn, but that the Coalition don't have a permanent presence inside of most of Fed space (except for the South edge) is a plus.

That was "a couple CLVs" from the Feds, not "CVLs".

How do the Feds send the Gorn EP on their 1st turn?
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 - 05:39 pm: Edit |
With tugs?
I'm confused by the question :-)
The Gorn are fully active on T12; the Feds are already fully active. The Lyrans can't send money to the Klingons on T1 as the Klingons aren't actually in the war on T1, and not actually allied to the Lyrans on T1, due to the special Klingon situation on T1.

The Klingons have about 289 EP to spend in Econ. They build D7C, D7V, D6M, AD5, D5S, 7D5, F5E, 5F5, 4E4. They overbuild another 18F5 (108 EP). Convert D6>D6M, D6>D6S. Activate 2D6. Spend 14EP on repairs. End econ with about 38 EPs in treasury (accountants have noted that the Klingons might have forgotten to pay for drone bombardment for last turn, so they might be down another dozen or so EPs).
The Lyrans have about 177 EPs to spend in Econ. They build BC, STT, 3CW, CWE, 2DW, DWE, 3FF. Overbuild 5CW. Convert CW>CWS. End Econ with about 42 EPs in treasury.
The Romulans have about 123 EPs to spend in Econ. They build CON, FFH, SPF, 2SP, SPC, 2SKE, SK, SEH, FAL, SNB. Convert WE>KE, SK>SKF. Spend 32 EPs on repairs. End Econ with about 7 EPs in treasury.

This just in! Space accountants did an audit of the Klingons and discovered that they actually have less money that originally envisioned--30 EPs were from the future (i.e. there was 30 EPs that was on their econ form that was "transfers from allies", which was an incoming $10 from a ComCon and then $20 from the Lyrans, which would show up later in the turn. It's just the wonkiness of the econ form in use), and the Klingons forgot to pay for drone bombardment for CT12. So the Klingons actually ended econ with about 0 EPs in treasury, and will be back up to about 30 EPs at the end of the turn (plus more salvage, likely).

In the raid phase, the Coalition raided 4 interior Fed provinces, were successful in 3, and a bold POL chased off a FFH (which was likely a pyrrhic victory for the POL).
In operational moves, so far, the Lyrans have started rounding up Hydran province raiders in Southern Lyran space; the Klingons have moved aggressively in Fed space, hitting planets 2106, 2306, 2509, 2610, and 3210 (all of which are lightly defended, but the Feds reacted a reasonable fleet onto 2106 from SB 2204), but haven't moved close to the Capital yet. The Romulans have moved to consolidate their hold on Fed border provinces, sent forces to planets 3612 and 3711 (both undefended), and then sent a significant fleet to planet 3509 (currently there are about 40 Feds and the 4PDUs facing about 45 Romulans).
Nothing has moved toward the Gorn yet. Nothing has moved in Kzinti space yet. Plenty left to move.

Moves are done and reserves are deployed!
In Hydran space, the traditional 4 battle hexes. Two in Lyran space, that will each see an HN explode; a fight in 0318 between abut 20 Hydrans and more Klingons that will probably see a small ship die on each side. And then a lot of Hydrans vs a lot of Coalition over SB 0215. It is unclear if the Coalition plan on killing the SB or not.
In Kzinti space, 5 battle hexes. Planet 1202 has two moderately even forces fighting (about 20 ships each), with the Kzinti probably having a minor edge. Planet 1504 will be taken by the Coalition from about 25 Kzinti ships; planet 1802 sees an aborted attack by the Coalition, where a small Klingon will be killed by the Feds holding the planet. There is a small fight in 1707 between 4 Klingons and 3 Feds. In 1401, there are about 150 SEQ of Coalition facing a few more SEQ of Kzinti. The Kzinti considered pinning out as many Coalition as possible, but that still would have seen about 5 or 6 enemy ships into the hex, who would have been fighting against nothing but empty auxes, PDU fighters from the homeworld, and the tiny 2 ship reserve, so figuring that was still going to result in most of the Capital planets getting redevestated anyway, I might as well do some damage and fight.
This was one of those situations that crop up in F+E where the counting, recounting, re-recounting, and then counting again of ships and fighters and equivalents becomes sometimes tedious and exhausting (as the numbers come up different every time...), and if the Kzinti had retrograded another 5FF to the capital last turn, none of this would have ever happened.
In Fed space, there are 10 fights. Planet 2106 will probably be saved by reacting and reserving Feds from SB 2204; planets 2306, 2610, and 3210 will be captured by larger Klingon forces than the Feds that are defending. Planet 2509 will be saved by a Fed reserve. Planets 3612 and 3711 will be recaptured by Romulans. BATS 3808 will be destroyed. BATS 3508 may or may not be saved by a reserve. Planet 3509 sees about 60 Feds (and 4PDUs) facing about 50 Romulans. The Feds will probably hold the planet, but the Romulans will probably kill the PDUs.
All remains quiet on the Gorn front--the Romulans have ships on BATS, but didn't cross the border.
The Coalition did not decide to conquer the Orion province yet.

The Kzinti defended planet 1202 from the Lyrans; the Feds defended planets 2106 and 2509 from the Klingons and saved planet 1802 for the Kzinti. The Feds lost planets 2306, 2610, and 3210 to the Klingons (again). The Fed saved BATS 3508 from the Romulans, lost planets 3612 and 3711 to the Romulans yet again. The Romulans are currently attacking planet 3509.

Fighting over planet 3509--the Romulans fought an approach (trading small ships), and at the planet, with lines of 103/7 (ROM) and 135/10 (FED), BIR rolled up 2, ROM rolled a 6, FED rolled a 1. After the EW shift, both sides do exactly 44 damage. Seems likely the Romulans will maul 4PDU for 30 and kill some fighters.
Nothing better than a 6/1 split over a planet the one time I gets to use PDUs. As noted above, It all evens out. Eventually.

The Coalition successfully raided and redavastated all planets in the Kzinti capital hex other than Kzintai. The Kzinti fought a lot, trading FFs for bigger ships, but eventually, the Kzinti ran out of CV groups with light escorts in the mobile forces, so pulled back to the homeworld and let the Coalition flatten all the outer planets. They then came in to Kuballis (the minor in the Capital system), direct re-devastated that one, and then they left the system.
More fights still!

In Kzinti space, the Coalition pinned in the Kzinti mostly to their Capital, and raided that, devastating all non homeworld planets. The Kzinti still hold planets 1202, 1502, and 1802.
In Fed space, the Klingons recaptured planets 2306, 2610, and 3210; the Feds saved planets 2106 and 2509. The Romulans recaptured planets 3612 and 3711, and stripped the PDUs off of planet 3509, but the Feds still hold it.

The turn is over!
In Hydran space, there are plenty of ships at SB 0411 and captured capital 0617; the Coalition have ships all over the place in Hydran space, capturing provinces and making supply rough. There is a solid Lyran reserve at 0411, a modest reserve at 0608, a small Lyran reserve in 0617, and a modest Klingon reserve in 0617. The Hydrans still have SB 0215, and still have a connection to off map.
In Kzinti space, the Coalition hold planets 1001, 1105, and 1504 and a lot of Kzinti space; most of their ships are at SB 1407, but the Klingons also pulled some ships back to SB 1509. There is a solid Klingon reserve at 1509, and a moderate Klingon reserve at BATS 1809 (along with another 50 ships or so).
On the Fed/Klingon front, the Klingons left a lot of ships forward deployed at captured planets, with about 15 ships at planet 2306, about 50 ships at planet 2610, and about 25 ships at planet 3210. There is a tiny reserve at SB park 2914 (E4, 2E3, SAV).
On the Fed/Rom/Gorn front, the Romulans left about 20 ships at planet 3612; the bulk of their fleet is in and around planet 3912. They have a solid reserve
at 3912, and modest reserves at 4411 and 4812. Still plenty of ships along the Gorn border.

In the Raid phase, there is a comedy of failure. There are 8 raids. One of them sees a LGE attacking a D6 and an E4. In SSC, the LGE rolls a 5, and the Klingons roll am 11, so the only result is the Klingons retreating and the Hydrans losing fighters. (the only other Raid against a ship in the whole game so far happened last turn, where a Fed DNL was facing an E4 and 6IFF, and they again rolled an 11).
In 2 other hexes, the defending POL rolled another 11 and a 12, 'causing 2 other raids to fail.

On the Hydran front, 4 battle hexes. 0118 is a solid Hydran fleet vs some FFs; 0315 is a solid fleet vs 3 ships so far; 0311 is about 15 Hydrans vs a dozen Lyras; 0411 is a giant pile of Hydrans vs a giant pile of Lyrans. The Lyrans have a reserve that can get to 0411 (which won't change anything) or 0311, which won't change much, and there are a couple light reserves in 0617 that probably won't make much difference if they go anywhere they can reach.
On the Kzinti front, there are 6 battle hexes. 0903 is more ships killing some province raiders, 1001 will see the Kzinti liberate the planet and kill an FF, 1105 sees a lot of Kzinti vs a few garrison ships, 1402 sees a bunch of Kzinti vs some ships that are left from last turn's pin operations; 1504 sees a lit of Kzinti vs some garrison ships; 1107 sees a lot of Kzinti vs a few ships over a BATS. The Coalition have a few reserves that can reach 1105, 1107, or 1504, but they probably won't help much, but at least at 1107, they can do some damage.
On the Fed font, 10 battle hexes. 2006, 2110, 2408, 2409, 3208, and 3313 see bigger groups of Feds attacking province raiders. The Klingons have a reserve that can reach a few of these in the West side of Fed space, but they probably won't help much. Planets 2306, 2510, and 3210 all see larger Fed forces facing significant Klingon forces; the Feds are advantaged in all of these fights, but the Klingons could fight for a while.
The Gorns did attack the Romulans this turn, crossing the border and hitting BATS 4710 (about 45 Alliance currently facing 17 Romulans) and BATS 4910 (about 40 Alliance vs 5 ships and the BATS). The Romulans have 2 reserve fleets that can intercede, but they are a total of about 12 extra not real impressive ships.
