The Klingons made a Tug to carry and set up MB's in the future while my other tugs have pods on them. I also did all the repairs I could do. The Klingons used all there salvage up barely having ep's left.

Like the Alliance last turn, the Coalition skips the Raids phase and starts moving ships.

The Lyrans move eight ships from the backfield to 1001, and five ships (joined by five Klingons) to 1202. The Klingons move five ships (D7,2xD6,2xF5) to 1805. No Kzinti ships are defending, and none react in, either (the only ships not in the capital eligible to react were the reserve set in the Marquis area, and the six "Marquis" ships, which have to stay home.

Pretty much everything else moves to 1401: the Lyrans manage to get 58 ships to 1401 and the Klingons, 72 (not SEQ - this is just raw ships). Neither have a lot of fighters and the Lyrans have none at all.

So there are only four combat hexes:

1001 (empty planet)
1202 (2 PDU)
1805 (BATS)
1401 (Capital fight)

Reserves are next.

The Kzinti have two reserves; a strong reserve off map and a decent reserve [DNL+CC+[CV+2xMEC+FKE]+FCR +2xFFK] in the Marquis area.

They send the big one to the Capital and the Marquis reserve to 1202, where it will undoubtedly fight off the 10 or so Lyrans and Klingons (led by a CW) that attacked the planet. Better planning would have sent those MEC's to the Capital somehow and designated a less valuable CV group as a reserve, but these things happen.

Combat is ongoing on Coalition Turn 3.

So far the Coalition hasn't rolled dice very well, and the Kzinti reserve chased the Lyrans and Klingons from 1202. The Coalition was successful at 1805 and 1001 (which was not contested):

The Coalition shows its hand, ignoring the shipyard and instead beating up on the half of the Kzinti fleet that is mobile and defending the remainder of the planets. However, the Coalition rolled three consecutive 1's on the first three attempts to devastate planets, which has put a crimp in their plans:

The fighting continues in the capital hex. We are all done with R2 except shock rolls on the Coalition D6M's over Keevarsh and Vronkett).

Combat is over on Coalition Turn 3. The Coalition eventually fought one round over the shipyard, paying a heavy price to kill 4 PDU and "keep their options open."

The Lyrans have retreated toward their supply tug in 1002, the Klingons toward captured planet 1504. Hexes 1302 and 1402 were empty and no further combat was required.

Casualties of course favor the Alliance except for the boatloads of PDUs and associated fighters that have died.

This all seems pretty much according to Hoyle. The Kzinti can be happy that they killed every Mauler in sight and only two planets were devastated this turn. The Coalition has a fairly reasonable repair bill (certainly less than the 140 EP in PDUS they killed this turn...) and have made progress towards the shipyard (the Kzinti won't be able to build, repair, and buy the 4 PDUs back on AT3 - especially with just an LAS for salvage rights on CT3!) The Coalition also recaptured 1001 and moved further into the white hexes.

Retrograde may take a bit due to the number of things the Kzinti must be pinned out of on AT3.

CT3 is over.

The Coalition has moved a fair number of ships south (most of the TBS, the entire Far Stars, new contruction) indicating that the Hydrans will be under a lot of pressure very, very soon.

Reserves are set on both fronts, between repairs and new construction stratted up.

Most ships have been retrograded to 1407 in the north, where the Coalition's FRD's are located. The Coalition left 4 ships in 1001 and a small fleet in 1504, but other than a few raiders mostly retrograded out of Kzinti space. The Coalition keeps D7,F5 in 1805 for disputation duty and a few frigates scattered around.

Alliance Turn 3 has begun!

The Alliance now consists of both fuzzy cute kitties and ... tripedal methane-breathing monsters. So we've got that going for us. The Hydrans deploy the first fleet in 0905 and otherwise keep pretty much to plan.

So everybody is downshifting to produce escorts and not much else for various reasons. The Kzinti also forego full PDU production, in favor of returning a bunch of cripples to service and keeping the frigate printer going Brrrr... No telling how the Coalition will react but since they were leaning South, it seemed like a thing to do.

In Hydran space, full PDU product, at the costs of having to skip a couple of HN's and the pure carrier build. Instead, the Hydrans will rely on TGV's for a couple of turns, and make DE's to protect them with.

Both factions produce their FCR, because we do not skip FCR builds. Ever.

The Kzinti move all over Kzinti space, avoiding any reactions from the big stack in 1407 but otherwise hitting everything in sight (but leaving enough ships home for two big reserves in the off map area):

1001: 7 strong Kzinti (DNL,CC, CV+2xMEC+FFK, FCR) against 4 Lyrans.
0802: 4 Kzinti including a CC against a Lyran FF
0904: 4 Kzinti including a CV against an F5.
1106: A battle line of Kzinti against the crippled D6 that a raid chased into the neutral Zone.
1304: About 25 Kzinti against a single ship.
1504: About 25 Kzinti against a single ship.
1805: A battle line of Kzinti against D7,F5.
1807: BC,4xDD against a crippled D5, BATS, and 6 extra fighters from the neighboring BATS that reacted in.

The Hydrans jump on the Lyrans, ignoring the Klingon menace for now:

First the Hydrans move a fleet to 0413, and a few Lyrans react out.

0413: 34 Hydrans (and ~50 fighters) against 10 Lyrans and a BATS.

Then the Hydrans swarm SB0411, just barely pinning:

0411: 35 Hydrans and 8 SEQ of fighters against 40 Lyrans, 6 SAV fighters, and SB 0411.

Finally, the remaining few ships from the 2nd Fleet jump on BATS 0212:

The Hydrans have SAV, SAS in 0212, with all other slow units going to the Capital.

Coalition Reserve Movement (Alliance Turn 3)

The Coalition has three relevant reserves, the others being pinned at 0411 or out of range in Southern Klingon territory.

The Lyran 1st reserve (seven ships) goes to 1001 to attempt to save the planet. The Lyrans now have eleven ships (against eight Kzinti) but the Kzinti have a clear edge in quality.

The Klingons first reserve goes to 1807 and will certainly save the BATS.

The Klingon 2nd reserve goes to 0904 to save a province raider, and will do so and collect the carcass of an FF for its trouble as well.

Notable combats included 1807 (where the Kzinti had to self kill a BC to avoid pursuit due to having 12 damage against BC, 4xDD), and the approach to 0411, where the Hydrans lost HR for a DW (but also crippled a CC). there was a more significant dice advantage (again in favor of the Alliance) this turn, although the loss of the FST (and a tug, more to the point!) is tough for the Hydrans. The Coalition rolled near average, the Alliance rolled an average of 4+, although a lot of the combats were small enough that damage doesn't stack up.

The Kzinti retrograde everything to the capital except the 6 ships on 1704 and 4 DD's that couldn't make it back and land on 1502 instead.

Two reserves, each of them [TGB+2x[CV+MEC(or BCE)+CLE(or FKE)+EFF]+SF+FF+FCR, are in the off map area and Capital, respectively. The only province currently under Coalition control in Kzin space is 0901 (as the empty planet cannot contest the Lyrans on 0902.)

In Hydran space, the Hydrans make no effort to do anything but hunker. all ships depart Lyran space after the BATS fall, retreating to 0716, 0617, and 0215 exclusively. There is a seven-ship reserve in 0617 and the Old Colonies squadron is set as a reserve if activated.

Nothing super-special here, I don't think. It's Y170, so the Klingons start mass producing decent escorts and 6-fighter carriers, the Lyrans try to spend money and pass some of their excess along, et cetera. B10 has rolled 4,6 so far, so the BB production process is doing fine.

The Coalition piles over the border in Hydran space, hitting every border BATS with a decent sized force, which left fewer ships for deep strikes. The Klingons froze the decent sized Hydran fleet on SB716 by keeping the East Fleet back, and now attack in to SB1017 instead, where the Klingons will set up shop within 6 of 0617 and kill a Starbase basically for free. The Klingon West fleet has flown in and attacked the Capital, so the Hydrans probably leave the reserve in 0617 home but have access to the off-map reserve as the capital has been attacked.

In Kzinti space, the Lyrans are setting up MB in 1407, have a tug acting as a supply tug in the meantime, and there are 120 Coalition ships in 1401 (where they don't quite pin the Kzinti). They also attack undefended planets 1504 and 1001, and minor planet 1202 (which still has its PDUs). Some Kzinti react out of 1401 to defend planet 1502, which is under attack by a dozen ships.

Combat hexes include:
0114: Undefended BATS attacked by six Lyrans.
0215: Available Lyrans not taking BATS have gon to SB0215, where they have 25 ships against 24 very not-special Hydrans.

A few ships left to move; the Kzinti front could use some shoring up in terms of province raiders who need to be on the buddy system and 1115 isn't under attack yet; the Coalition has the ships to do both that have yet to move.

CT4 Operational and Reserves

A few Lyrans from 1407 attack 1105, creating one more combat hex, and the COMCON arrives at 0608.

In reserve movement, the Kzinti unbundle Reserve #2 in the capital and send [CV+MEC+FKE+EFF]+SF to 1502, leaving the remainder in the Capital to add to its defense. Kzinti reserve #1 moves to defend minor planet 1202 (which still has PDUS!) and will defend the planet.

The Hydrans leave the reserve in the capital home, but move the off map reserve to Starbase 0215, removing all doubt as to the result there as now the Lyrans are outnumbered and out EW-ed in addition to facing a starbase.

Combat has begun on Coalition Turn 4.

The Klingons demolish SB1017 with no defense and just a few cripples, BATS 0315 goes down, and then the Lyrans fight a few rounds over the Starbase and then retreat after just barely missing getting a Hydran cruiser after the Hydrans direct the STT (losing the offmap LC in return) in the first round. Nothing either way here, really, the Lyrans trade CC (directed in pursuit), STT and cripples for LC, a few cripples, and a few SIDS.

More to come, but nothing surprising yet.

Big doings on CT4!

The Coalition  killed a bunch of stuff in Hydran space including 4 PDU over Hydrax, and then took on the Kzinti shipyard -as well- this turn.  So much for Hydran first; the Coalition appear to want everything everywhere all at once.

[Haven't seen the film, don't watch movies much these days.  But Michelle Yeoh is fantastic when she has a decent script.]

The results aren't too bad, although there are a lot of dead ships, and even more crippled ships, for the Coalition.   But the Alliance is probably buying 8 PDU between the nations just to not lose both capitals by force before turn 7, so there's that going on too, which pretty much ruins the plans of either nation to build anything special.  All planets in the Kzinti capital except Kzintai are devastated.  If the Coalition really wants, they can maybe take the capital next turn?  It depends on how many cripples actually get repaired in range of 1401.  So many that it isn't clear that the FRD park in 1407 isn't getting attacked by the Kzinti fleet - which is pretty much all up and running - this turn. The Hydrans don't have as many cripples on their front, but they may have a fair number of opportunities too.

And CT4 is over.  Apart from a minimal screen of province raiders, the Coalition has pulled back to 1407 with every SEQ that can make it, including cripples, as that is where the FRD park - and the essential work of pinning out Kzinti - will happen.

On the Hydran front, the Coalition has pulled back as well, which means that most Lyrans are out of range of Hydrax for CT5 unless they react forward or something, because their only retrograde point was 0411.  The Klingons are mostly at 1214, as they did not move forward with MB or FRD's as yet.  Again, there are ships in the provinces, not arranged too ideally due to the need for them to be on the locations of the various bases this turn.
