Memo for Record

All OLR gifted ships from Y160-181 are accounted for.

(331.0) ROBOT-CONTROLLED COMBAT

Robot-controlled ships are used to send certain slow units through the WYN barrier. As they have no crew on board, they do not arrive in any condition to fight.

(331.1) ROBOT-CONTROLLED SHIPS IN COMBAT

Robot-controlled units are subject to the following:

(331.11) DISARMED: Robot-controlled units lose all offensive combat potential and cannot deploy any assigned attrition units. Their defense factor is reduced by 50% (drop fractions); an original defense factor of “1” would remain “1”.

(331.12) Vulnerable: Robot-controlled units may be targeted with a 1:1 directed damage attack in addition to other directed-damage attacks.

(331.13) Exposed: Robot-controlled units cannot occupy any formation positions.

(331.14) Controlled: Robot-controlled units must be assigned to a command slot. If the number of robot-controlled units exceeds the command rating of the flagship, then robot-controlled units not on the line still may be targeted with 1:1 directed damage attacks, although may not be voluntarily damaged by the owning player to resolve damage.

(331.15) Capture: A destroyed robot-controlled unit, if eligible to be captured, may be captured according to the normal capture rules.
(331.16) No Retreat: Robot-controlled units cannot retreat but can be “pursued” to enable a capture attempt; see (209.25) below.

(331.2) DEMISE

(331.21) CAPTURE: If abandoned by their fleet, treat the robot-controlled ship as a “slow unit” under (302.742). During the slow unit pursuit round, the pursuing player can choose to forgo its damage roll under (302.42), but instead have the pursuing force simply make a capture attempt upon the abandoned robot-controlled unit (if the unit is capture-eligible) during the Troop Action Interphase. A capture succeeds on a die roll of 2–7 (two dice), otherwise, the robot-controlled unit is destroyed. Marine units (521.5) or prime teams (522.43) in the pursuit force could be used to increase the chance of capture.

(331.22) NO RECLAMATION: Destroyed robot-controlled units do not generate salvage and are not eligible for depot repair.

I DID THIS. IT SEEMED SIMPLER.

ALL REPORTS THROUGH THE END OF 200 HAVE BEEN PROCESSED, NO NEED TO CLEAN THEM UP, I ALREADY DID.

That covers 1/4 of the total reports.

I will get to the office soon (it snowed this morning and I waited for the wind to die down) and hope to finish the reports file and send a new pdf of the entire rulebook before the day is out.

WEDNESDAY 3 DECEMBER
I rounded up all of the email reports, put them into a single word document, and manually sorted them by rule numbers. Nobody reported on 400 so I get to mark that chapter finished with no work!

What's that, Chuck? Civil Wars doesn't have any 400 rules? Is it too late to add one?

Thanks Steve. I will note that on the report and (for your upcoming 300 section work) on those first two 331 items, they should have been 332. (obviously). These were sent assuming the original swap of the number which didn't happen.

DID I SHOW YOU THIS YET?

(549.0) AUXILIARY WARSHIPS (EXTRACT)

The complete text of this rule is in various products and in the Warbook Repeated Rules File available on the website. Here we include only an update to explain the concept of “Aux Pods.”

(549.1) PRODUCTION OF AUXILIARIES (Updated)

(549.11) STARTING ORDERS OF BATTLE: Those auxiliaries in the original fleets of various empires are listed in their Orders of Battle, usually under the expansion they were published in.

(549.12) PRODUCTION OF NEW SHIPS: An empire at war (not including limited war) can produce auxiliaries in addition to its normal build schedule.
(549.121) (Original): Each empire may produce one small auxiliary (of any type) per turn (the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, and the ISC may produce two per turn), but only one auxiliary per year may be a large, jumbo, or heavy auxiliary. One large or two small auxiliary troop ships can be built each turn in addition to that number. Some auxiliaries have an “in service” limit (762.0). Some smaller empires have lower limits in their order of battle.
(549.121) (Updated): Each empire has a number of “Aux Pod Production Slots” which can be used to produce auxiliary ships. (You do not actually buy “aux pods” but you use “aux pod slots” to build auxiliaries of any kind.
(549.1211) The Federation, Klingon Empire, Romulan Empire, WYN Cluster, and Interstellar Concordium have two “aux pod slots” per turn; all other empires have one per year. (Orions and Andromedans do not produce auxiliaries and have no “aux pod slots” to use.)
(549.1212) During active war turns, the number of “aux pod slots” is increased for most empires. See their order of battle production notes.
(549.1213) Unused “aux pod slots” can be saved for up to two years and used on later turns.
(549.1214) A small auxiliary requires one “aux pod slot,” a large auxiliary requires two, a jumbo auxiliary requires three, and a heavy auxiliary requires four.
(549.1215) It is possible to convert a smaller auxiliary into a larger one (see the Ship Information Tables) and this does not require the use of “aux pod slots.”
(549.122) Each type of auxiliary may have additional specific rules limiting its production, such as auxiliary carriers (513.112) or (527.24), auxiliary PFTs (526.41), auxiliary drone ships (526.51), auxiliary hospital ships (451.1), auxiliary scouts (317.1), auxiliary space control ships (526.46), auxiliary troop ships (521.6), and auxiliary web tenders (539.4). Special attack forces are not covered by this rule; they are in (520.1) and (521.62).
(549.123) Production of auxiliaries does not count against the mission specialty, e.g., auxiliary carriers don’t count against the carrier limit, auxiliary scouts don’t count against the scout limit, and auxiliary PFTs don’t count against the PFT limit.
(549.124) Auxiliaries come in four sizes (small, large, jumbo, and heavy) corresponding to the four sizes of freighters.
(549.125) Auxiliaries cannot be produced by over-production.

END OF (549.1) EXTRACT

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, December 04, 2025 - 03:43 pm: Edit

Basically I changed it to provide for peacetime production of auxiliaries and additional wartime production of auxiliaries, without fixing the first line. SIGH. Anyway, review and report as you will.

By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Thursday, December 04, 2025 - 05:44 pm: Edit

(549.122) consider adding auxiliary combatants to this list though there is no official rule number to reference.

These were originally added to the LDR SIT and OOB in Minor Empires but added to everyone's SIT before that.

The Captains Log rules are (AXC.0) found in CL 43 (years ago) and referenced in the introduction section of (549.0). They are also mentioned in (549.42). Much of that writing can be absorbed into 549 and already has been. There might be some nuances in terms of production/conversion or some other portions of the game I cannot think of right now but we can add this in as line items rather than get super complicated.

Counters for Combatants: We have added generic and empire specific counters for standard combatants and combatant variants of these over the years since CL43 appeared.

____

(549.44) Robot Controlled Movement: Auxiliaries using robot controlled movement have many additional restrictions, see rule (209.2) in Civil Wars.

(549.441) Auxiliaries using robot controlled movement that become involved in combat have additional restrictions, see rule (331.0) in Civil Wars.

I checked, and 332 won't fit on the remaining pages, it has to start on the page with 331.

By Ryan Opel (Ryan) on Thursday, December 04, 2025 - 08:25 pm: Edit

I will work on this and we have some of it done already. I propose the following dates.

YEAR - What's going on
Y116? - The year the Kzinti arrive
Y1?? - When the Orions discover them
Y15? - Start of Four Powers War
Y168 - Start of General War
Y171 - Klingon invasion of the Federation
Y175 - Operation Wedge
Y181 - Operation Remus timeframe
Y186 - War of Return

Full OBs for those years, inter-years would be add xxx to yyy.

(332.33-K1) Penal Units: sacrifice mission s/b Sacrifice mission.
Rationale: Sacrifice is the name of the mission and for consistency in this rule should match the other missions.
L. Bergen 12/4/25

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, December 04, 2025 - 11:07 pm: Edit

Today I did the reports through ROMULAN CIVIL WAR which was 38 pages. I only have reports left on the WAR OF RETURN and then can move on to other issues in this product.

By Chuck Strong (Raider) on Friday, December 05, 2025 - 05:18 am: Edit

(712.4) ADB added captured Lyran police ships (LPL) to the WYN Navy as part of ZULU. We have no data and need a background description to include year(s) and numbers so we can add and/or remove them to the WYN OOB as appropriate. Two counters are included on ZULU.
FEDS suggests adding sometime before the start of the General War. Rationale: Balance -- the WYN fleet is very anemic at the start if the GW and appears to need additional increase. Might suggest one was lost during a pre-Y180 incursion or as part of the takeover of the Orion shipyard.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, December 05, 2025 - 06:26 am: Edit

Say Y162 and Y167, one captured by Orions and the other ran into the cluster loaded with political dissidents and their families. Rumors of government collusion were never confirmed.
