KC: I took what sounded like a personal attack as a personal attack. If it wasn't, you should have been more careful in what you said. If you'd have meant it as I took it, it would have been identical to what you did say.

If you are doing new fleet charts, move the fleet name up into the space between fleet boxes with a little tab around it instead of inside the fleet box. As it is once you pile counters in the box you can't read the fleet name. Make it look like this:
___________
/NORTH FLEET\_________________

|....Cool Graphics Here.................|

I agree with Nick on that one. So many ships so little time...

RE: The Set-up Charts

Can these be separate from the New Fleet charts please. I don't care for these (never use them as I have my start-up fleets presorted and in small ziploc bags waiting for the next F2F game). I would like the option not to buy them.

I did like the Charts brought by Chuck and Grant at Origins. They had some conveniences of being easy to use around a very crowded table. Since the Battle Board was on the charts there were less 'Unit Transfer Errors'(ie mixing up counters, dropping of the units on the table or off the table) and time was not wasted constantly restacking your forces for organization purposes. These UTEs can really get annoying when trying to resolve lots of battles in the high times of war.

Lar: pre-sorted by set-up ... what a great idea!! Hope you didn't trademark it, because I think I'm going to do the same. Thanks!! :)

I think the Gorns can do without 4 more fleets :) My Gorn never operate the original 8, much less the expanded 12 (much the same for the Hydrans), so 16 seems a bit of a stretch.

I really like the area for Empire-level units (pods, monitors, etc) on the set-up charts. I've never used the set-up charts before (I finds set-up to be fairly quick without them), but I always end up having to set aside special piles for pods and things. I might actually start using set-up charts now :)

STEVE:
How about one of those Fleet Color Charts and the Set-up charts for every race in F&E?

The ones that you have done are GREAT!!!!!!

What are we up to with the Hydrans? 10? 12? I never had enough when we only had six, but surely we don't need 16 either.

However, another sheet of generic Coalition and generic Alliance fleet charts would find use, I would think.

John, the Hydrans are up to 10 (they started with 6 and shared with the Tholians until 2K and got 4 more in FO)...

SVC, the Klingon Fleet Chart looks good as it is course I still have to visit Kinkos and get the new set-up charts on cardstock (eventually)...

Stewart Frazier:

Are the rest of the races available?.

If they are, where can I get them?.

I love the idea of set-up charts. Started doing my own a while ago but never finished. Got sidetracked by RL. Would need to update them for all the expansions anyway. If you are going to do setup charts I would be more than happy to abandon my personal project and buy them.

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Sunday, October 17, 2004 - 12:50 pm: Edit

You know, guys, the set-up charts are already in FO.

I was thinking about going down to the local copier place and burning them off onto cardstock ... then I saw this topic and thought it'd be neat to get them printed that way by ADB. But it won't work the way I thought, as the Romulans and Klingons both take three sheets. Oh well.

SVC: What would the price be just to have them printed on standard 8-1/2x11 cardstock??? Just the basic scenario set-up, not the advanced scenarios.

I didn't think the set-up charts in FO were all inclusive. Have to double check when I get home.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Sunday, October 17, 2004 - 01:34 pm: Edit

The FO Charts cover the initial set up of the grand campaign and also the initial set up for 607.

Let me say, guys, that it could be fun to do charts of some kind, in color or not, but it won't happen this week. I gotta focus on captain's log for this next week and maybe the one after.

set-up charts?!? BLECH! I have to agree with Mr Bergen, these are fairly useless

also, like Lar mentioned, battle-boards on the charts are really useful

hey, would this be a good place to beg for sexier fleet names? the 1st -> 4th star legion is so boring as is the northwest fleet, SW fleet etc

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Sunday, October 17, 2004 - 07:18 pm: Edit

So far as I can tell you are fully allowed to make up whatever names you want for your own game all you want. And it doesn't even insult the designer at all.

By Alan De Salvio (Alandwork) on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 - 11:37 am: Edit

I definitely agree with Nick, please put the fleet name at the top of the box or in a tab out of the box. It gets difficult to see the fleet name with a pile of counters on it. They look good though.
