OK, I wasn't at GAMA so I wasn't aware of that. Nevertheless, +/- 3% from reality is neat!

More D20 questions:
The other portion of the weight and age is lifespan, death and age modifiers. Again d20 has this for humans, but not the other races.
1.At what ages are the various races middle-aged, old, and venerable? Important to know as there are age modifiers to stats come into play. It also has impact to SFU background questions.
EX:If Vulcan lifespan is twice as long as humans, how long was since the Vulcan rebels left before the homeworld forgot about them?
2.Speaking of age modifiers, Which version of the age modifiers do you use? D20 weakens STR/DEX/CON while increasing INT/WIS/CHA as you pass the minimum age for each age category. INT/WIS/CHA is the same for both games. The issue is that the PHB progresses as -1/-2/-3, so by the time a human is venerable, they have a -6 to STR/DEX/CON each. D20 Modern is more forgiving: -1/-1/-1 so a venerable human has only a -3 to STR/DEX/CON each. So which is used?

Michael. I had already caught the missing age charts and will put them in the proposal (being on the same page in the PHB helps ). I'm not sure which will be used, though I would guess D20 modern (as it is likely different due to modern medicine effects). thanks again.

Andy, Gary, Loren, and SVC. Thanks for the answers. I try to use my nitpicking skills for the cause of good.

Gary, sorry, I thought I had told you all that. M81 is official because the Tholian template now has it in both GPD and D20.

Gary, I took your suggestion on that matching the timeline sources. The website lists TOS as being 2265-2269. If the Gorn incident takes place then, Y1 then is then between 2108 and 2112. Probably not SFU official, but good enough. Now I can do pre-Y1 early spaceflights, which was the thurst of my endeavors.
Thanks!

This should probably go in the PD20 AAR topic, but since one hasn't been put together yet, I'll add these items here.
Naval Line Officer, Special Feats, Starship Gunnery, Exceptional: This feat appears to be missing the overall character level 10th, that the Helmsmanship and Astrogation Feats have. Without this requirement, this feat could be acquired at 6th Level! C. Tenhoff 10-30-05
Engineering Specialist, Class Features: Weapon Upgrade Header is missing, following Jury-Rig feature and the following paragraphs. C. Tenhoff 10-30-05
Marine, Class Skills: Gunslinger and Forward Observer Skills are listed as Class Skills but aren't listed in the Master Skill list (pg 78). C. Tenhoff 10-30-05
Security Specialist, Class Feature, Improved Evasion: Feature text indicates 8th Level while Table 3/13 lists 6th Level. C. Tenhoff 10-30-05
Department Head, Class Feature, Leadership: Class Feature title might be confused with the Leadership feat from the Player's Handbook. Recommend changing to Department Leadership. C. Tenhoff 10-30-05
Mastercrafter: Recommend that the Experience Cost be 250 times (*) the feature bonus (+1, +2, or +3) instead of 250 plus (+) the feature bonus (+1, +2, or +3). C. Tenhoff 10-30-05

Has anybody compiled a list of errata for PD20 - seems to be an aweful lot of errors, ommissions and contradictions.
If somebody could direct me to this rare and mythical beast it would be appreciated.

Andy: If you will, compile one complete list and Email it to me and I'll fix the master files. The joys of PoD.

As a new players of PD20.
Some holes (not addressed in the archive so far?)
Line Officers get various feats to control ships in SFB but seem to be lacking the skills (Pilot/Navigator/Repair) in order to do anything in the rpg.
Should the Line Officer have those skills as Class Skills?
Pilot - seems to be lacking any gunner feats/skills. Presumably there's a feat 'Starship Weapons' or similar or have you got to get a level or two of Line Officer - Gunner?
Ther are quite a few other minor niggles, contradictions etc
By Andy Palmer (Andypalmer) on Friday, December 16, 2005 - 08:56 am: Edit |
Andy. I'll look into those questions this weekend and post a reply. Please send me the other minor niggles, etc. that you find to andrewrpalmer at comcast.net. I'll research those as well and add them to the master errata/FAQ file as necessary.
thanks - Andy

Andy,
here are a few more I found while working up some characters:
1) Naval Line Officer (pg46) lists Leadership as an available skill. However Leadership is not listed on skill chart on pg 78.
2) Starship Operation is listed as a 'or' Prerequisite under Basic Helmsmanship. However, Starship Operations is not listed as a Feat anywhere else.
3) Strategy & Tactics are listed as Skills for the Line Officer Class (pg46), but should be Knowledge(Strategy) and Knowledge (Tactics).
4) Criminology Skill is listed as a Skill for the Security Specialist Class (pg62), but should be Knowledge (Criminology).
5) Recommend add Sense Motive to the Security Specialist skill lists.
6) Aura of Command is missing from Captain of Starship Prestige Class (pg72).

Andy Edwards. Gaps confirmed. I'm forwarding my suggested fixes to the decision makers.
Craig. Thanks.

Craig.
1) Replace with Diplomacy
2) Listed as Fighter/Starship Operations
3) Correct
4) Correct
5) Under consideration
6) Pending

Can only the DND 3.5 be used, or are the simillar d20 modern/future books or STAR WARS d20 book compatible?? Both I don't think are "3.5", but are "d20" games with rules included. I know some people who are not interested in buying DND 3.5 book, but would like another alternative. That to me is the biggest downside of the d20 system: not everyone owns or would like to own DND. THanks for the suggestion.

errata updates.
When books are updated and printed PoD, is there verbage in the book somewhere that states the "printing date" or "version"??
By Andy Palmer (Andypalmer) on Thursday, December 29, 2005 - 08:29 am: Edit |
Darren. PD20 was designed to work based off the Players Handbook. As I don't own the other books you mentioned, I have no idea what else might be missing. In theory, you should be ok in most areas. I do know, for instance, that some of the skill and feat descriptions are missing from PD20 in cases where they are identical to PH3.5 and I am unsure if those same skills & feats are in those other books.
By Darren Kehrer (Kehrer1701) on Thursday, December 29, 2005 - 10:55 am: Edit |
Thanks for the info. I had heard various bits of what you could use.
By Douglas E. Lampert (Dlampert) on Thursday, December 29, 2005 - 03:42 pm: Edit |
In theory everything from D&D3.5 that you need to play PD20 except generation of characters, experience awards, and level advancement is in the SRD (System Reference Document) which is available on the web at:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35
D20 Modern should include almost everything that is missing from the SRD. Thus if you have D20 Modern plus a web link you should have everything you need. Just download the feats and skills sections of the SRD.
By Darren Kehrer (Kehrer1701) on Thursday, December 29, 2005 - 04:37 pm: Edit |
You think wizards would make a generic "here is the 3.5 basic rules" without genre so you could do this.
By Douglas E. Lampert (Dlampert) on Thursday, December 29, 2005 - 06:25 pm: Edit |
Why? They'd rather sell you an entire PHB.
Without genre you have no classes (which are pretty well genre specific) so generic basic rules would be unplayable, the only gain to having such a ruleset would be to save money for people playing non-WotC D20 games (Star Wars and D20 modern are playable stand-alone, only non-WotC games require the PHB).
So they COULD produce generic rules costing themselves sales and benefiting no-one except other company's customers, but I don't see why they should. The PHB is relatively low cost for what you get in any case, and if you already have either starwars or modern you already have what you need in a book + a download from the web.
