I've slept since then. What is wanted?

Andy, did you send me the complete errata file once upon a time? So if I can find it I can just have Matt post it?

By Andy Palmer (Andypalmer) on Monday, February 05, 2007 - 09:06 pm: Edit

SVC. Yes, I did a while back. If you need it again, let me know.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, February 06, 2007 - 11:19 am: Edit

If you sent it, I have it, and just need to find it. The file name would help.

Andy,
are there any plans to do a GM screen for PDd20??

for that fact, what about a GM screen for Gurps as well.

I realize that a GM screen exists already for GURPS, but it might be nice to have one with PD pics and taylored for that game.
Also, having a d20 version that didn't look like the fantasy oriented DND DM screen would be neat.

By Andy Palmer (Andypalmer) on Saturday, February 10, 2007 - 05:40 pm: Edit

Darren. I know that it has been discussed a few times. We might need to look into the rules around, effectively, replicated stuff already in the D20 DM Screen as the PD-specific items likely wouldn't be of sufficient quantity to fill one on their own.

By Darren Kehrer (Kehrer1701) on Saturday, February 10, 2007 - 06:16 pm: Edit

It would just be nice, whether playing d20 or gurps version, to have a GM/DM screen that resembled what you were playing with the added info from each system that pertained to PD.

Leanna was looking into a GM screen I pointed out to the folks at ADB. I'm not sure what ever became of it.

It was a customizable screen. It was made out of materials like a view binder but folded out like a GM screen. You could then add your own charts and such into the clear pockets. My suggestion was that ADB could then print official inserts for this screen system.

Hi Guys, I noticed a couple of things which I think are omissions, but, I thought I would check:

Table 5/1 Feats: Ambidextirity isn't listed, is this correct?

I noticed something on the Phaser 2 table (7/4) which shows that Kill-1 isn't available, is this intentional, the implication being no ambidexterity?

Also; does a Phaser 2 include an integrated Phaser 1 ala The Starfleet Technical Manual?

If it does have an intergral Phaser 1, and I have fired my 100 charges in Phaser 2, is anything left in the Phaser 1? My assumpution is nothing is left?

Lastly, I was wondering if you had seen PCGEN (http://pcgen.sourceforge.net/01_overview.php) and if there was any intention for doing a primedirective addon for it?

By Troy J. Latta (Saaur) on Monday, February 12, 2007 - 11:23 pm: Edit

I played with PCGen when I was writing the module for Genghis Con, but a) I've never used it before and didnt' have time to deal with a learning curve and b) I didn't have time to write a PD20 module. It's all open-source, so if you want one, there's nothing stopping you from writing it. Just make sure you don't violate any copyrights.

By Gary Plana (Garyplana) on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 - 12:27 am: Edit

I looked at PCGEN a long time ago, but re GPD. Aside from it being for the wrong game system, the question of copyrights was secondary to our license with Paramount, which basicly says "no software".

Maybe there is some wiggle room, but it just isn't worth the risk of shutting down ADB.

By Stuart Aston (Badger) on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 - 02:58 am: Edit

Gary and Troy,
many thanks for the reply on PCGEN, already in progress

Gary, I am not in a position to comment on the licence issue from an ADB perspective, I certainly wouldn't want to shut down my company for it! But, your assertaion that it is for the wrong game system is out of date. It basically supports any d20 system game that you choose to plug into it, at this stage you are not even supplying software, but "data".

Any Idea when we will get a consolidated Errata published for PD20?

By Andy Palmer (Andypalmer) on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 - 08:11 am: Edit

Stuart. My apologies for not getting to your questions last night. I'll answer them tonight.

Andy

By Gary Plana (Garyplana) on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 - 11:14 am: Edit

Stuart, when I said "wrong game system" that was meant re GURPS. Back in 2002, there was no PD20.

By Stuart Aston (Badger) on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 - 11:28 am: Edit

Andy,
many thanks. Btw,superior customer service!

Gary,
thanks for the clarification.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 - 03:33 pm: Edit

Gary: email me. I think I can solve that problem. Not every problem, but that one.

Andy: Thanks for covering the questions.

By Darren Kehrer (Kehrer1701) on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 - 07:27 pm: Edit

Dont forget to post GPD errata also...

By Andy Palmer (Andypalmer) on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 - 07:37 pm: Edit

Stuart.

Ambidexterity was a 3.0 feat and was removed from 3.5. It was effectively replaced by Two-Weapon Fighting.

Kill 1 should be an option for the Phaser-2. I will add this to the Errata.

re: integrated Phaser-1. From a rules perspective, I would say no, but I'll kick this one upstairs to the background/continuity team.

re: power phas-1/2. Even if the -2 is a -1 with a holder, the -1 would not have power left after the -2 was emptied.

re: pcgen. I'll look into it.

By Stuart Aston (Badger) on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 - 03:46 am: Edit

Andy:

Many thanks for those answers!

You might also want update the Multi-Dexterity Feat, which references back to Ambidexterity.

Re: Phaser 2, on Table 7/3 it is listed as SS under ROF.

Q: First Officer, is not really mentioned anywhere I assume some sort of Line Officer/Department Head Combo? or is he/she a low level captain?

Q: Captain, I assume he or she should also have done a tour as department head? and Exec?

Q: Klingon d20 do you use the GIA Class for ESS, KGB and MVD characters or would they use the Security Specialist?

Q: Table 4/1: skills lists Profession as modified by PD20 but is then not listed in the skills section?

Aura of Command Captain's Prestige skill, I know you know it is missing, Suggestion that it functions as either:

a) +1 on morale and skills checks as per Way of Command e.g. the entire ship.

or

b) +2 but range is line of sight.

Q: Science Specialist: The HD is listed as d8, which is as high as a Marines! and higher than Line Officer Engineer or medical specialist? this feels wrong? suggest d6, also suggest Marine becomes d10.

Interspecies Medicine:
Love the idea, but, there are not similar penalties for operating another empires "equipment"? e.g. If I am a Klingon operating a federation hand phaser that is trivial as per the rules? But if I am trying to find the "engineering bypass panel" I might need to make a language check and with the wierd races I might need an increased DC?

By Andy Palmer (Andypalmer) on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 - 08:06 am: Edit

re: Multi-dexterity. Noted.

Phaser-2. Should be "S" not "SS"

First Officer is a job, not a class. eg., "Watch Lieutenant" in a Fantasy setting. Most starship First Officers are going to be Naval Line Officers. Some may have levels in Captain of a Starship and/or Department Head.

Captain. Having the Department Head prestige class is not a requirement to either be a ship's captain or to take the Captain of a Starship prestige class. Few officers will be in the job or role of starship captain without first having been a in the job/role of department head, but that is separate from taking the prestige class.

re: GIA/Security Specialist. It depends upon the role the character wants to take. In MOST cases, the GIA class will be more appropriate, but there are certainly members of all three agencies whose job fits better within the Security Specialist class.

re: Profession. The change is due to using the Wealth system from D20 Modern (as opposed to coinage, which D20 3.5 usage)

From the D20 Modern SRD:

Profession (Wis)
Check: A character makes Profession checks to improve his or her Wealth bonus every time he or she attains a new level. The DC for the check is the character’s current Wealth bonus. If the character succeeds at the Profession check, his or her Wealth bonus increases by +1. For every 5 by which the character exceeds the DC, his or her Wealth bonus increases by an additional +1. A character can’t take 10 or take 20 when making a Profession check to improve his or her Wealth bonus.
How many ranks a character has in the Profession skill (including ranks the character may have just acquired after gaining a level) also adds to the Wealth bonus increase the character receives upon gaining a new level. In addition to the Wealth bonus increase a character gains from your Profession check result (if the check succeeds), the number of ranks the character has in this skill increases his or her Wealth bonus as follows.
Ranks Wealth Bonus Increase
1–5 +1
6–10 +2
11–15 +3
16–20 +4
21–23 +5
Special: If the Gamemaster deems it appropriate, a character can add his or her Profession modifier when making a Reputation check to deal with a work- or career-related situation.
Every time a character takes the Windfall feat, he or she gets a cumulative +1 bonus on all Profession checks.

re: Aura of Command. Noted.

re: Science Specialist. Hitdie are one of the balancing factors for classes, along with skill points, feats, BAB, and class abilities. D8 was seen as the right balance, given their levels in other areas. Marines are D8 because their class abilities are significantly more powerful/numerous/expansive than Fighters.

Medicine. While the bodies may work differently, their technology tends to work in very similar ways (i.e., phaser technology is phaser technology). You would have to do a language check to read the controls, but after that, your skill/ability in that technology is what matters. Don't ya remember how easily the Enterprise bridge crew flew that Bird of Prey?

By Stuart Aston (Badger) on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 - 10:46 am: Edit

Hi Andy,
Many thanks for the clarrifications.

The most important ones for me, were that the prestige classes are not required to be in the "job" they describe, it was not clear from the text.

re Science Specialist: I understand .. though it still feels wrong :) I'll run it as a house rule and see how it goes.

re Medicine: lol okay:)

again many thanks, and a beg for the Errata :)

By Gary Plana (Garyplana) on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 - 11:01 am: Edit

Stuart: when you said "many thanks for the reply on PCGEN, already in progress" does that mean you're already working on a PD20 add-on for PCGEN?

By Stuart Aston (Badger) on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 - 12:28 pm: Edit

Hi Gary,
I was intending to try an pull something together on an adhoc basis, i'm still feretting around in the product, so that I understand it at the moment.. but yes that was the long term aim. I have only been a user of PCGen in the past. I have never looked under the hood, but so far it seems that everything you need is there.

I must admit it looks rather less grand than my initial response :) sorry!
