PD GM's screen?? I was not aware that such a thing existed.

I am not either.

It was the Graduation Exercise adventure that came with a free GM's screen. It was for the original version of PD, not for GURPS or PD20.

My FLGS has about six copies of Graduation Excersise.

Heh. I picked that up and a couple of adventure folios for a couple of bucks in a bin too.

Thanks Terry, I guess I will have to write some original adventures first. I was wondering if there is any online tools for PD20, like PC or NPC generators, star trek name generators, etc?

I recall SVC saying that the creation of software for PD is outside their license, but while I cant speak officially for SVC there is a program called Hero Forge that should be easily modified for your own personal use (if you know excel that is). I am not speaking on behalf of ADB, just as someone who plays PD20 and likes to have things easier.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, June 07, 2007 - 08:53 pm: Edit |
Actually, the lawyer said a year ago that such things as existing software to support RPGs are fine. So we could create files for d20 or gurps software. Well, legally, we can, but I have no idea HOW.

Yeah, I have hero forge. I'll tinker with it and see if I can make it work. Thanks!

I wanted to update everyone. I have joined the heroforge yahoo group. They have provided me with a document that explains how to customize the heroforge. I will begin customizing it to create PD20 characters. I am setting a time frame for myself of 30 days to complete the new forge. I will continue to update you as the system progresses.
I am also writing my first PD20 adventure. Where in the forum should I post it when it is completed?

What about creating files for use with PCGen?
I don't have a copy of PD20 myself, but I'd be happy to offer my help to anyone who might be considering such a thing. I've helped out creating files for a long time now, and am working on a couple of other sources to try to get into the PCGen distribution.

No problem.

Thomas,
I've never used PCGen but I have heard good things about. Since Hero Forge is what I'm use to, I will start with that. I appreciate the offer for help when I get to that point I'll let you know.

Mitch,
If its short enough to be completed in one night let me know. We are doing a series of "one shots" and I am running PD when my turn comes around again and I would be happy to run the test for you.

I'm not sure SVC would like you posting the adventure on the BBS. Probably better just to advertise for a proof reader or two ( who know what they're doing PD20-wise) and email it to them.
When they're done it can be emailed to Steve Cole.

Michael,
I hadn't thought about submitting my adventure to be published. But maybe I'll try that! Thanks!

We're looking for adventures to publish.
By Mitch Brock (Mitchbrock) on Thursday, June 14, 2007 - 06:52 pm: Edit |
Steve,
Once my adventure is finished, where do I submit it? Do you want it sent directly to your email and what should I put as the topic?
Mitch
By michael john campbell (Michaelcampbell) on Friday, June 15, 2007 - 12:13 am: Edit |
Email it to Steve Cole with the Subject line of "PD Adventure" Or "PD20 Adventure" or "Prime Directive Adventure" or even just "SFB" as those won't be seen as spam.
"Hey man, you gotta see this" is likely to be deleted without even opening the email, let alone the attachment.
The Input Guide links (here's a link ) are very handy at knowing what to do.

Michael,
Thanks for the link.

Hey guys,
I have a question.
Are any of the original Star Trek monsters in the Star Fleet Universe like M-113 creature (the Salt Vampire), Mugato, Neural parasite, or Tribbles? Or are all those things trade mark infringements?
By Gary Plana (Garyplana) on Monday, July 09, 2007 - 08:58 am: Edit |
The SFU centers on ship battles, so it does have ship-scale monsters like the planet destroyer, space amoeba, and the like. Human-scale monsters like the ones you mention are definitely within the realm of PD, but these critters are so one dimensional that any GM worth his salt (pun intended) can come up with many more nasty things to inflict on his players.
So in answer to your question, no. We never thought it worth the space in a core rulebook, but if we ever did a monster manual they'd definitely be included. Not a whole lot of chance of that, though.
By Loren Knight (Loren) on Monday, July 09, 2007 - 11:06 am: Edit |
You also notice that any space monster has only a similar name and this helps with royalty costs. So, the M-113 creature wouldn't be called that.
The Mugato and Tribbles have well defined names and I think these pose a more complex situation.
I know that ADB can't do specific characters from the show like Kirk and crew and I wonder if that goes directly to things like Tribbles (although SSJ published the Tribble Canon).
Mugato could get a spelling change to Muhgautue.
Then again, what's there to write about Tribbles? Pretty much all the data you need is on the TOS episode.

I've looked around and found very little support for Prime Directive D20. Since I want a place to park my own scenario design notes and useful stuff, I formed a Yahoo Group for the game. It's at
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/PrimeDirectiveD20/
I'm screening membership to keep out spammers, so just type in a quick note so I know you're not a spambot!
