Will you need the actual D20 Modern rulebook to play PD20M, or will it come with "lite" rules or something to be a usable book (with rules to play) right from the start?

Is there an official decision as to whether PD20 Modern will get its own sourcebooks or whether the D20 versions will be fine?
I think PD20 Modern would probably sell better to players of the existing D20 Prime Directive if they knew they didn't have to buy new copies of the sourcebooks too, and I'm not sure if there would be much difference between a PD20M sourcebook and a PD20 sourcebook.

I don't think we ever planned or mentioned doing separate empire books for D20M.

PD20 Modern Project: HELP!
Seriously, I need one or two people who are familiar with SFU, PD, d20 Modern, and (it would help) a passing knowledge of d20V3.5 to do proofreading and data checking. You'll have a lot to do and about 3 weeks total to do it all in. If you want to do it but cannot do it until April, don't volunteer as this will be published by then. EMAIL ME don't post here if you're interested.

Have seen some cover art and one announcement somewhere that I thought said March '08 for this product. Have searched the boards but cannot find any new publication date. Can anybody tell me what the current status of this project is? Thnx in advance!

Hi Ian,
PD20M is going a bit slower than I anticipated as we are still shaking down how everything works. I won't make any promises, but as soon as I finish proofing CL #37 and X1R, PD20M becomes my primary responsibility again.
Jean

Ian, As soon as Origins have passed, I have both a son and a daughter that are going o go help Jean out. They are going to drive her car to the car wash daily and wash it for her and then go get the oil changed and have the regular maintenance performed.
And the sooner she finishes PD20 Modern, the sooner she can send my kids home.
By Ryan Opel (Ryan) on Sunday, June 01, 2008 - 12:40 pm: Edit |
And Jean's car will need extra attention after carrying Jean safely to and from Origins.
Tony,
Maybe your kids can drive Jean home from Origins so she'll have time in the car to proofread?
Ryan
With that kind of "incentive" PD20 Modern should be finished by the 4th of July.

Such helpful people!
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm....ask Tony's kids to weed daylily garden. Let them play with Wii when weeding is done. Feed them brownies.
NOT let them drive car....

I read the description online, but it didn't say, do you need the main d20 Modern rulebook, or is this product a standalone that includes the rules??
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 - 11:15 pm: Edit |
Yes, you need the main WOTC d20 Modern core rules. Somebody email me to add that to the description, please.

Hi all,
I'm proud to announce that Prime Directive PD20 Modern is shipping today to distributors.
http://store.starfleetstore.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code=8721&Category_Code=P2
From the Shopping basket description: Roleplaying on the Final Frontier using the d20 Modern rules, which work better for Science Fiction than the dungeon-based V3.5 rules.
This is a major redesign of the original PD20V3.5, professionally edited, eliminating the many mistakes of the original dungeon-based version and entirely re-edited for the "modern" rules set. New classes, new skills, new information.
This product requires the WOTC d20 Modern Roleplaying Core Rulebook.
Ships to mail orders 15 October 2008.
Jonathan Thompson, Tony Thomas, and Gary Plana came through like champs to make the d20M and RPG parts work. John Sickels and Loren Knight gave us some insights into the Federation and Tholians.
Mike Sparks did a wonderful job of layout and keeping typos from creeping in.
SVC was there every step of the way. I just wish I could have fit every little detail into the book . . . but there may be some surprises in there for you!
Jean
P.S. Hmmmm . . . I think I hear Ejna the Thief (my very first character) saying she wants to be reborn in the future as a Fast Hero and if she is exceptionally clever, she might just grow up to be a GIA agent.

I will purchase this. After my next paycheque.

Great job Jean (and everybody else). I know this has been cookin' for a long, long time. With it launched, that clears the way for PD:Federation, does it not? I've been looking forward to that one for a long, long, time.
By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Wednesday, October 08, 2008 - 09:39 pm: Edit |
Federation is next. I'm proofing a couple of simple things, giving Y2 a couple of days for a quick read-through (SPP's writing is very restful to read and proof as he is very accurate in his use of language and I can focus on minor things), and then hitting PD: Federation. I've read some of John Sickels writing before (little did we know that we'd actually be working together on this project!) and I know this product will be chock-full of fascinating, never-before-read information on the mighty United Federation of Planets.

Nice job all! D20 Modern is a favorite engine of ours and PD20M is a good solid product...so much so we've bought three copies :-)
We're really looking forward to the PD20M Federation book, as well as the other planned releases!!! We've got it pre-ordered thru our FLGS.

Thanks Rich! That sort of praise makes me happy!

A question has come up about the Credit class feature that a 9th-level Merchant gets.
A Merchant might want to use Credit (or have to) if he needs to have local cash on the barrelhead and is working within a short deadline, if he doesn’t want a record that his credits went to that person, or if he doesn’t have access to his funds.
An example of how this might be used:
My player's Merchant needs to have $2000 in local money and he needs to have it in an hour. He heads for a local businessman. The DC for $2000 is 20. Add 5 and we have a target of 25. The 9th-level Merchant makes that easily. As GM I rule he can either make his Wealth check (now that he has time) and pay off the person who loaned him the cash $2200 (a DC of 21 since I have to round up) or he can roll on a DC of 17 to repay the $1100 and then pay off the rest over time. Of course, if he forgets, then bad things could happen . . . . The Merchant decides to pay off the loan immediately so that if anything happens he doesn't have to deal with the consequences . . . and also removes a hook that I have into his character ("You know that money you owe--could you and your associates do this tiny favor for me instead?)

I was at my local game shop, The Last Grenadier, and wanted to check the price of the D20M core book. They were out of it so I asked. The guy said that D20M is out of print because of the whole transition to D20 4.0.
I was very surprised by this because I thought D20M was a sparate system (only basically related). He said he wasn't sure and that he'd look into it.
In any case, I wanted to ask here too. I thought D20M was here to stay as is.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 10:13 am: Edit |
I am not sure what you're asking. PD20M is here to stay as is. The four or five million guys who own d20M are unlikely to have thrown it away.

I saw 16 dealers on Amazon

I'm asking if D20M is still in print. PD20M is not in any danger, I'm sure.
The web site supporting it doesn't say anything about it being out of print but I'm not sure if that means anything.
I'm asking here because I figure someone would know well enough.
