They did something very similar at least. It would be interesting I think to see that event explored in some more detail than I have seen in other SFU products - or indeed if there is a product which covers it all which I don't own, reproduced in Federation.

The Orion's didn't try it they did it which hurt the Federation a lot. What I'd like to know more about is the circomstances of the Orions rejoining the Federation.

The whole situation seems like it would be great material for the book when it comes out. Hope it will be in there

Well, I've little doubt John Sickles has addressed it. I've read some things but not all.
However, he is also doing PD Orion Pirates and all that will be detailed then, I'm sure.

Hi all,
A progress report for PD: Federation.
I have a great many files from John Sickels, including the opening story.
SVC has the Project Memo written (an outline of what we think will be in the book).
I have some things to proofread (light proofreading to give me a break), and then I will dive into PD: Federation.
I want you to realize that I will treat much of what John writes as I would a non-fiction article. That means it gets cross-checked and verified and that takes time. However, I think you want it done right, so I will take the time to do it right. Just ask SVC about the stuff he was fixing for PD20M at 1 am on Monday morning!
Jean

[mrburns]Eeeexcellent! It's all going according to plan. [/mrburns]
I'm looking forward to PD Feds. I don't roleplay, but like to buy the books for the SFU background.
Thanks for all your hard work Jean. A fictional universe like the SFU deserves a good line of RPG books. And thanks to SVC for finding someone who could bring those books into reality. It's obvious that everyone at ADB is really passionate about the SFU and serving those of us who are fans of the work (and customers).

Go Jean Go!
I'm looking forward to this book a lot.

John Sickles: Something to consider for Mars is artificial gravity for Mars cities to bring it closer to 1G (from under a 1/2G). Otherwise, the people that live on Mars would be physiologically different (probably weaker), and logically might even require a different racial template.
Once artificial gravity is developed this would make Mars perfectly habitable and allow its citizens to easily interact. It would also be a form of recreation to go out side to play in the reduced G environment. Maybe the Olympus Mons hermit is a little, skinny, weak boned old man.

At Jean's request I am now doing the PDF versions which will be higher resolution and easier to print without pixelation.

Nice to see the colors for once. Thanks SVC!

I just sent Eric the four PDFs of the medals. Maybe he will get them uploaded tomorrow.

I was wondering - will the Andor/Andoria of the SFU have any similarity to the ice-bound moon of a ringed gas giant take on the Andorian home world seen in ST: Enterprise, or is that not permitted (even if it was desired)?
(And will the Andorian template allow for sub-species, equivalent to the Aenar?)
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, January 02, 2009 - 06:43 pm: Edit |
it's an ice world.
By Andrew Marrington (Mazza) on Sunday, January 04, 2009 - 11:43 pm: Edit |
You could modify the Andorian template yourself pretty easily if you're using GURPS. It's not SFU, but other GURPS players have done that on this wiki: http://foxxtrot.net/trad/index.php?title=GURPS_Trek#Andorian_.28Aenar.29
(Personally I don't like the idea of the Aenar being drastically different from the rest of the Andorians myself, but whatever floats your boat)

Is there any template for an NCIS or CID organization within Starfleet?
Also, I imagine the Marshal service would be in charge of a witness protection program.
(My PD20 group is a Marshal group, but we've at different times have had these questions in the course of play.)

Just noticed the medals list... won't the combat action and away team get confused?

Nope, not the same thing.

I can't remember if it was in a CC a few months ago or on one of the boards, but I thought FEDERATION was supposed to be out by now? PD FED D20M on or around 4/20, and PD FED GURPS4E a month later.
Any hope that these will be out by Gen Con in August?
By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Saturday, June 06, 2009 - 08:06 am: Edit |
I don't know Robert. Yes, PD Feds was supposed to be out; that it is not is my fault alone. I lost a significant amount of time due to a fall, being on pain meds, and to a staff shortage that left me with 2-3 hours per day at home, awake. I won't count the hours I lost to flamewars on the BBS--stopping them, documenting them, composing emails to the people involved, and responding to their complaints that I was being mean. I have just lost another staff member due to budget cuts; I don't know what that will do to my time. On the flip side, there is the possibility that I will lose my RL job due to those budget cuts. I have no idea what that will do to my time. It may mean moving to Texas.
I have given up on the idea of moving at this point; I cannot pack my belongings and get any products done. So I'll be staying in this crime-infested area unless the job goes away.
By Loren Knight (Loren) on Saturday, June 06, 2009 - 12:58 pm: Edit |
Jean,
if the worst happens (budget cuts), moving to Texas will be some consolation, but ill timed a very difficult thing, no doubt. Just know that you have a large community of fellas around this country that will do all they can to help.

Yes, I have been very disappointed in Jean's inability to work 32 hours in each 24 hour day. She has a full time job, one that forces her to work unpaid overtime, working for a boss who hates gaming and gamers and does everything she can to force Jean to stop working ond games and spend her free time doing unpaid "career improving" work for the boss.
Like me, Jean has only so much "game productive time" per day and ANYTHING that goes wrong (e.g., being sick, having a flat tire, being forced to work unpaid overtime) comes out of "game productive time".
Jean's job is in peril at the moment, not because of anything she did or didn't do, but because every state government is short of cash and trying to save money any way it can. She works for a university, and non-teachers (like non-pilots in the Air Force) get screwed any time there are problems (or promotions). Jean knows that she can move to Amarillo and get a job with ADB any time. She plans to do so in five years when normal retirement happens, but if she's forced to leave before then, she's coming straight here.
Which reminds me, I need to fax Jean's boss another memo about how incompetent the boss is with a brilliantly forged copy of Jean's signature.
At least, Southern Amarillo is more a less a crime free zone, since gun ownership is about 3.7 per household, two-thirds of people walking around have concealed carry permits, and the local sheriff is a huge law & order guy who thinks that crime prevention starts with a privately-owned 9mm pistol judiciously applied (and a 12ga shotgun for home defense, loaded with buckshot, not rock salt). It's more or less impossible to get convicted for shooting a criminal in a jury trial in Randall County. When the sheriff finds a dead body with a criminal record, he says "case closed" and moves on. This is why all the criminals are in North Amarillo (run by the other political party, which low gun ownership, high local taxes, and skyrocketing crime).

Yup, when the police are Puddy-Cats, the Dogs will play.

Just a question, not a criticism, folks! I try to follow the Trek and Trek-based gaming scenes very closely and as a result get a lot of questions about stuff on various forums and my blog.
Sorry to hear about the hard times, Jean, and better luck to you soon. Sounds like you need some moderation help on the BBS though! Forums are a gift to customers, and should never impact product dev.
