Is this topic just for general Klingon background discussions or is their some revised or new Klingon PD product we didn't know about comming?
By Sean O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 - 11:47 pm: Edit |
In Gurps Klingons, there is a mention of "Klingon Rugby" IIRC. Is that a home-grown Klingon game, or did Klingons learn it from the Federation? (I can imagine Klingons watching a Federation sports broadcast of a rugby game and thinking... "Hey, that looks good... maybe it ought to be a bit tougher though...")

This is for general discussion.
As we explore other "flavors" of RPGs (D6, Savage Worlds, etc.), those will create the opportunity for PD Klingons in those "flavors".
If you see something you want to have explored, let us know and it may become part of Final Frontiers.
Mostly, this is for those who want to explore the background of the Klingons in an RPG.

Klingons invented their own version of rugby.

SVC: Funny you should say that (although I sent you a note way back when). In my novel there is a scene where they are watching a game of K'Tygo, a field game that loosely represents the skills and tactics of battle. I've got the rules almost done but haven't worked on them in a long time (with a game field map). They use pugil sticks, flags, and batons, and beat the crap out of each other. Korgan learns interesting leasons that he later uses in his military career (even though the game is a Marine favorite, he traslates some of those leasons to starship combat).
Perhaps one of several popular Klingon field games.

Hope you have all read "The Final Reflection" by John Ford.

Page 94 Klingon PD d20: "Promotion to K4 is even more difficult, and usually requires attendance at Command College."
Page 95 Klingon PD d20: "..., an officer must complete a five-month command course (taught at a starbase, not on board) before he is qualified to become Senior Watch Officer, XO, or Commander."
Question #1: Are "Command College" and "a five-month command course" from these two texts the same thing, and if not, how many months long does "Command College" typically run?
Question #2: Are "Command College" and "a five-month command course" taught on a per-service basis? For example, did Ardak Kumerian (DSF Admiral / Marine Major) have to go to seperate schools for the DSF and the Marine sides of his career, or do the DSF and Marines accept the same (or each other's) command training?

What would the normal range of ranks be within Klingon Dagger Teams? Would a brand-new K1/M1 ever be put in command of one for example? Would an officer still remain with the team after being promoted to say K3 or M3? What about the sergeants - would the whole E5 through E10 range show up or since E9's outrank K1's, would it just be E5 through E8? Would an E2 ever be one of the combat specialists, or would they more likely be the more experienced E3's and E4's instead?
(References: PDd20M p149, Klingon PDd20 p70-71, SFB module R6 p10 rule R3.M2)

Command of a dagger team would probably be a K4, maybe K3 who just got command, maybe a K5 who is too good to promote.
Enlisted would be E5 at least, probably E6, and up as far as it goes (if they stay alive).

Have an ESS officer? Want to know what his rank insignia looks like? Better yet, do you need to upgrade it now that he's been promoted?
SVC made us a new play aid for the Klingons. http://www.starfleetgames.com/sfb/sfin/Klingon_Ranks_ESS.pdf
Please let me know here if you like this sort of play aid.

More play aids please!
Just to see them in color is great, but I've always wanted to know one thing about Klingon rank insignia: Were is it worn on the uniform?
By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Tuesday, November 03, 2009 - 06:07 pm: Edit |
Look at the cover of PD20M Klingons and you may see some examples of where the insignias were worn!
We will keep them coming!

Have you seen the Klingon orders? http://www.starfleetgames.com/documents/Klingon_Orders.pdf
How about the Klingon ESS enlisted grades? http://www.starfleetgames.com/documents/Klingon_Ranks_ESS_EMs.pdf
Thanks to SVC for getting these out!

Some of those Orders sure raise a smile. So punny.

I can only think of one that does that, Loren.

I like the award for "Humanitarian accomplishments!
Should be Klingonitarian?

I thought it was pronounced like "Order of Ya Sword"
By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Friday, November 06, 2009 - 11:59 am: Edit |
Ted, those are translated into English. An example of that is Princess Sangfroid -- her name in Klingon has come to be the Klingon word that translates as "sangfroid". I bet if were we reading these order descriptions in Klingon, that you would have the word's essential meaning right.
By Sean O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Friday, November 06, 2009 - 12:45 pm: Edit |
I notice that the order of "Karposhnikov" is for engineers. IIRC Kalashnikov, the inventor of the AK-47, was an engineer, and was extensively decorated for his contributions. But I'm sure that's just a coincidence caused by the transliteration from Klingonese to Latin alphabet. Right, Joan? I mean, Jean?
