RE: debacle, I was referring to the apparent lack of notice of the change, and the product that was thrown away post change over.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, March 16, 2017 - 04:32 pm: Edit

Yeah, well, there's that.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, March 16, 2017 - 04:33 pm: Edit

Now, everything is POD so Jean can change the books without loss.

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Thursday, March 16, 2017 - 05:21 pm: Edit

This is cleaning up the book so it is more accurate and more useful. That's why I am actually calling it GURPS Prime Edition 4e, Revised. That makes it clear that I'm working from the 4e text.

A thought occurs to me, for PD/RPG use only, how likely would it be that a module for turning freighter skids into mini-bases would be available? i.e. a research company drops a three stack skid set, say, cargo, science, and an accommodation one, on a planet for six months or a year, and then comes back to see what they learned. Dropping several of these off in a system, or on a planet with a couple of shuttles would allow for a fair amount of research, with cheap, movable bases.

By Stewart Frazier (Frazikar2) on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 - 07:33 pm: Edit

Except I don't think those skids have independent life support and limited power...you'll need something else to handle those...

By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 - 08:35 pm: Edit

A power module. Should make a list of the necessary sad boxes required to support a minimum base function.
Hanger module for shuttle(s).(to protect and maintain the shuttles ADM mentioned above.)
Power module?

At present, I am not aware of any module that would allow you to raise a shield.

May need a security detachment ...larger than just the two or four bps assigned to the modules mentioned.

Possibly need some ground vehicles, trucks, APC, doubt you need tanks or transporter artillery.

Shuttles could provide a science mission capacity, but if there are any local areas that need to be scouted, an older fighter with sensor pods or a EW fighter could visit near by moons or asteroid fields looking for exploitable resources etc.

Beginning to sound like a complicated operation.

This might make more sense during the trade wars period than during the General War or middle years eras.

By A. David Merritt (Adm) on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 - 08:50 pm: Edit

Both the Science and Accommodation skids have a single APR, and of all the skids, I would be shocked if the Accommodation skid was not self sufficient on life support, since they are listed as being able to hold 120 crew/passengers, and yes I'm assuming that these would have little actual crew, and more space devoted to long term use. As to shields, I didn't really expect them to provide much protection, primarily background radiation, and animal attacks, a space elephant scratching its butt ought to get a nasty shock. An Orion LR firing a phaser should do full damage.

These are repurposed space shipping containers, not real bases.

GPD revision;

I would like to suggest we add 25 Points to the starting point totals for characters on page 25 in G:PD4E. While the suggested point totals worked well in 3E, the changes to stat costs, as well as the repricing of various Ads and DisAds makes the listed point totals rather tight in 4E.

By Chris Hagerty (Greengoat) on Tuesday, August 08, 2017 - 05:02 pm: Edit

Hi Jean, my 2 cents for the GPD revision:

I was flabbergasted that I could not find the GURPS template for a Star Fleet enlisted type charcter in the latest book. I was looking to play a "regular" Star Fleet shmoe and not an officer. They do have the enlisted marine however. It seems some of the templates were cut for space in the 4th edition book.

I think having a lot of solid GURPS templates would be really important for the book in addition to the corrected background material.

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Tuesday, August 08, 2017 - 07:27 pm: Edit

Chris, the revision I am working on does have those missing templates.

Thank you Jean, that is good to hear. I look forward to getting the revision.

A GPD revision is fantastic news! What can we expect to see changed and is there an approximate release date?

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Saturday, December 09, 2017 - 12:06 am: Edit

Jean, please do let me and/or my Navy-retied wife know if you need another set of eyes on the parts about enlisted troops.

"Navy-retied?" Garth, are you getting kinky on us?

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Saturday, December 09, 2017 - 05:36 am: Edit

Fat fingers. {sigh} You know what I meant to type.

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Saturday, December 09, 2017 - 09:49 am: Edit

:)

By Stewart Frazier (Frazikar2) on Saturday, December 09, 2017 - 10:16 pm: Edit

(*chuckles*) Ya know, fat fingers usually gives extra letters, not missing ones...

By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Saturday, December 09, 2017 - 11:33 pm: Edit

Let's not dwell on the topic. It could result in some very bad karma for Garth... and he has a number of deck plans and ship rosters to finish.

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Sunday, December 10, 2017 - 02:23 am: Edit

Jean: See PM on FedCmdr board for a small book about enlisted facts.

If you have GURPS Space 4th Edition you can pretty much use the Spacer template for the enlisted crew (with minor tweaks for the PD setting).

TBH to run a GURPS Star Trek game all you need is GURPS Ultra-Tech plus Space, 4th ed. GPD just makes it super easy to run it in the SFBverse.

A question about deckplans that I don't want derailing a thread about minis over on the Shapeways board.

Where can the deckplans for the Burke class FF be found?

Friendly questions, if it is unwise to answer right now given the various health issues, I understand.

How is the GURPS:PD revision coming along?

Do we have an ETA?

Are any other GURPS:PD projects on schedule, or are still filed someday?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, August 09, 2018 - 01:52 pm: Edit

Jean is doing that project so my health isn't delaying it.
