hey guys, just a question, is cloaking really worth it? one of my regular opponents plays romulans and he likes to cloak for the 1st turn or 2 of a game but I really cant see the point.
ok it stops me saber dancing but all that means is I do over run attacks instead from point blank range.
maybe hes not using the cloak very well but so far it doesnt seem worth it. |

In a one-on-one duel, what it really means is that you won't take much damage while cloaked, but you will get hammered as you come out of cloak. Before you use it, you have to ask yourself if you can survive that hit and still win. If you can, use it. If you can't, you probably shouldn't.
On the other hand, if you are going to die anyway, it will probably keep you from getting killed. On a fixed or location map, it will probably let you get away, too.
But if you are doing overrun attacks at point blank range to a cloaked ship, he really should be taking advantage of that. Particularly if you are being silly enough to fire at him while he is still under cloak. _________________

That's why there's carronades!
Seriously though, cloak hurts nearly anywhere. A got hammered with an S in Fleet Scale because my cloaked opponent got behind me. |

I forget, it was awhile ago. But I think he Hetted (or I made a bad mistake in manuvering). I think I was at speed eight (which was foolish). |

If you are playing against Fusion Hydrans, you are invulnerable against Gatlings, and almost invulnerable against Fusion Beams. Even during fade ina nd fade out you will receive littlet o no damage.
Hellbores on the other hand..... |

well it was the 8th impulse so i just unloaded everything at range 1-2 obviously modified range/damage for cloaking. didnt do a huge amount but used up his spare energy boosting his shields, which he didnt think about and left him fading in the following turn which got him nuked 1st impulse. |

in duels I use the cloak to hide while I reload if I cant keep a good distance. but speed 16 + cloak is pretty handy. |

Cloak is just there to give the cowardly romulans something to hide with when they are not bold enogh to fight without plasma. The Gorns on the other hand...... |

A cloak is a useful tool when used properly.
But there are a lot of players that use it when they shouldn't. |

I prefer to use the cloak AFTER I fire. I'll use it while I'm reloading if I can't keep the range open, but if I'm past Range 15, I usually don't bother cloaking. Once the torps are loaded, I make my firing pass uncloaked and cloak after launching the plasma.

The vulcans they are think that way. The Klingons probably consider it a cheating and dishonorable way to win a battle. But it is an important adition, and tactic, for romulan (and Orion) ships, as well as being a nuciance. |
