Is it just me or is the current forums for SFB completely foreign and hard to use? I like how Fed Com has this style of forum (php) for their game. Is there a php forum for the original SFB?
Thanks. |

It's not necessarily foreign and difficult, it's just different. The SFB BBS (or, the Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board, if you prefer) predates php by several years.
It uses DISCUS rather than php, and there are some distinct differences. Neither system is necessarily better or worse than the other... they are just different. For hat it's worth, I've been on the SFB board for almost as long as it's been around and I find it easy to navigate, but I quite often forget where what I'm looking for is on he FC (php) forums. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Oh yeah, in response to our question:
No, there is not a php forum for the original SFB. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

I told Matt to set one up for you, but you aren't going to find a lot of SFB players using it, since they're all used to Discus.
It's what you're used to. I find PHP all but impossible to work with. _________________ The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander

Understood. Trying once again to figure out those forums.
Where is the forum where I annoy the veterans with a suggested D7 with photon torpedoes? haha (seriously, I got one that I thought was pretty balanced lol). |

I got a note from Matt saying he had set up an SFB PHP forum and just confirmed it is there (with no posts in it). _________________ The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander

Ah, there it is!
More properly, it is a section of the main php boards here.
I will leave D7 the honor of the first post, if he so chooses ... _________________

I had this version of phpbb for my mobile Disc Jockey service and one of the difficulties I ran into with it was that it was always getting hacked. It didn't matter what type of security precautions I took, somebody would always find a way to get gambling or porn or gibberish stuck in there until it overloaded the server and i couldn't fix it anymore. I had to go into the program and physically pull it out with my FTP client. Most of the trade organizations I was associated with had decided to abandon the phpbb and go with the version called "vbulletin" Vbulletin is not free as is phpbb, but it's less likely to get hacked because it's not open source.
Some folks may find that there is other stuff out there too like on Facebook. _________________ "This Ship Was Built To Fight- You Had Better Know How" - Adm. Arleigh Burke - USN

Actually, I'd like to see the D7 in the service of the Federal Republic of Aurora outfitted with either regular or light photorps...
...shame the heavy torps don't seem to work on ships smaller than Size Class 2, though. _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)

It would be "Shocking" if they could! _________________ "This Ship Was Built To Fight- You Had Better Know How" - Adm. Arleigh Burke - USN
