I also learned that I suck with fractions and probably gave my FF and NCL an extra point of energy (or lost a point I kinda sucked at it.) I will use decimal and keep a running total to ensure I do not make such mistakes again.
It was also eye opening to play using minis without a hex grid. I did not have a solid guage of position as one does with hexes. Due to this I ran my BCH right into the ISC Cruiser at zero range. I thought for sure I could turn inside of her and get away but as the impulses slipped by I realized(actually realized on the ride home) at speed 16 and a turn mode of 4 3 full impulses of turn result in about a 60 degree facing change with most of my movement energy moving my towards my enemy.
I do feel bad this learning experience was paid for with Federation vessels. I think there might be a Romulan Union to Klingon/Fed Empire lend lease program started to defray some of those costs |
Remind me to tell you about the entire Klingon fleet I lost attacking a Federation Starbase (with a DD and FF escort) . That was back before the Seltorian surge when the Klingon Empire and Federation were NOT very friendly. The storyline is that, back during the Surge, the Klingon fleet was getting massacred by the Seltorians (with their fleets being assisted by Juggernauts and Planet Killers) as were all other fleets and the Federation fleet came to the aid of the Klingons...their combined fleet being the only one to turn back the Seltorians. Thus was The Empire forged.
My fleet lost a BCH and FFB and we destroyed a Seltorian DN and crippled a Seltorian BCH, CA, and CL. One more impulse and I would've destroyed the BCH and CA ( possibly even the CL, but less likely) and the Seltorians may have severely crippled (he says destroyed) my C7. I think the incoming D5 reinforcement might have changed that, but it was 3AM and a Solarian Church fleet was coming (not sure whose side THEY would've been on ) and I prefered to keep my C7 with Fleet Admiral intact. The Seltorian Fleet was repulsed...in my book that is a win.
To put it another way...the Federation ships and crew fought and died with HONOR. They shall be remembered. A roaring howl goes out to warn all others that the spirits of Empire warriors enter Stovokor this day! _________________ Admiral Kr'toth's face turned purple with fury, his hand going to the d'k tahg at his side, “You dare insult my honor?!?” |

Command and control between the cruisers and dreadnaught go still as they are taken over. At high sublight speed, two Seltorian light cruisers race to join the other ships of their kind...flanking the deadly form of an ISC Command Cruiser. (to be continued...) |
"So, the face of the Seltorian masters finally reveals itself. All fighters evasive and close with the Seltorian primary fleet. Try to get out in front of the New Jersey...damn we're closing too fast, belay that last order, all fighters to starboard of the Fed ships. Klingon squadron close and adjust course to back up the Fed ships!" "Long range sensors picking up a Solarian Church vessel. Not closing. Appears to be monitoring the battle. Range from Fed ships to Selt lead ships less than 100,000 km. The Seltorian Dreadnaught has activated it's Shield Dampener. All Fed ships shields are down by 10 su." "Yes, I was expecting that. The closer they get, the greater the effect will be. Tell the Marko Ramius to start..." "SIR, ALL SELTORIAN SHIPS FIRING...TARGETING THE RAMIUS!" "Status?" "Forward shield on the Ramius gone...she's heavily damaged. Three photons fired, 2 hit - the DN." "Continue closing. Launch all drones."
"All Fed shields down by 20 su! We are now being affected as well. All shields down by 10 su. The Seltorians have locked weapons on the Ramius and New Jersey. Fighters have come out of evasive and are making attack run. Seltorian ships firing!" "All ships, FIRE!"
There is a hail storm of phasers, photons, particle beams, and ppd's. Space is lit briefly by a twin glare like binary stars as the FBB Marko Ramius and BC(J) New Jersey explode under the massive brutal assault.
"Status." "New Jersey and Ramius destroyed. The DN is crippled and we have a tractor beam locked on it...drone impact imminent. Impact!" Another sun, another ship...gases and bodies vented or simply blown into space. "Sensors show the CA and BCH have expended all available power at the moment. Long range sensors also picking up a Solarian Church fleet approaching." "Tractor both ships and prepare another volley!"
Picking himself off the bridge deck, Admiral Kor'Toth quickly surveys the rest of the bridge crew, proudly noting the efficiency and calm in which they resume their stations amidst sparks and small fires. "Status!" "Shield 2 down and we are heavily damaged. CA and BCH crippled. Both CL's damaged by fire from ships and fighters. Fighter squadrons have suffered several losses from ship fire and plasmas fire by the ISC cruiser. D5 Gr'oth has just folded in and approaching at high speed. The CA and BCH are attempting high sub-light speed, but are being held by the Kenek and Eelst. The command cruiser is closing...torpedoes hot."
"Launch drones..." "Sir, comms from Valhalla." "Belay that last order. What do THEY want...don't they know we're in a battle?." "We are to disengage before the Church fleet arrives. It looks like the Seltorian/ISC ships aren't eager to stick around either." "Who the hell informed command about the Solarians?!? Never mind, prepare to pick up life pod survivors and disengage. Release the CA and BCH, but keep weapons locked...if they so much as twitch our way I have no problem claiming comm failure." "Yes, sir." _________________ Admiral Kr'toth's face turned purple with fury, his hand going to the d'k tahg at his side, “You dare insult my honor?!?” |

Turn 17
well turn 17 started off with a bang!
as you may have read from darc-tangents posts and warwicks post, it was a night to remember.
we started at 7pm or so and were still in the middle of battle at almost 3AM...and had to stop.
summary of results:
Romulans with the TSE BCJ escape off map due to the quick diplomatic exchange between themselves and the Empire.
The Seltorians with one of their "control" ships an ISC Command cruiser take the field against the Empire's main southern fleet.
Fleet OB:
Empire: 1X C-7, 1X BCJ, 1X D-7V,1X D-5, 1X NCL, 1XFBB,
Reinforcement pool 1X D-5, 1X FD-7 (arrived on turn 3 and 4)
Lost in action: the BCJ Newjersey and the FBB Marco Ramius
Seltorian Hive: 1X DN, 1X BCH, 1XCA
Reinforcement pool 1XISC CC, 2XSEL CL (arrived on turn 2)
Lost in action: the Seltorian DN
Seltorians withdrew, they had multiple ships with heavy damage the BCh was crippled and burning and one of the CL's had been smashed up
an excellent battle...I foresee a rematch..............

While we have not done the actual turn these are some of the Romulan Unions intentions.
Union News Network
Central Naval Command confirmed contact with the Terran Star Empire this week. A diplomatic vessel the ISS Havok entered Union space from a dimensional rift to engage in peaceful dialogue with the Command Cruiser Senator. Having secured terms favorable to the glorious Union the Senator returned to Station Hymnal for an overdue refitting and the Havok returned through the rift. An unfortunate end to this story 319 crewmen of the Senator deserted en mass at the station. These traitors apparently boarded the Orion vessel Iron Hammer and absconded with it. Families of these traitors argued they had been killed in an imaginary fight between the Senator and Terran Star Empire vessels. But these lies proved hollow and death sentences were approved for all family members within three generations of the traitors. The assets were transferred to our glorious emperor long may he remain. An Orion official contacted for comment on this story could only say, “Iron Hammer? … What the hell are you talking about?”
Central Naval Command announced this week a unilateral demilitarization of the Union-Empire Border. Forces committed to this sector have been focused on the Seltorian frontier instead. Empire diplomats contacted for comment where unfortunately Klingon and therefore unable to structure a coherent sentence. This new fleet organization has been renamed Taskforce Fortis Tutor. Judging from the level of traffic entering operational bases on the Seltorian Frontier it does not appear that Taskforce Fortis Tutor will be taking a defensive posture with the Seltorians. |

Whoa! Hold on just a sec...that was NOT an official Empire response from an official of the Empire. (Security to the podium.)

(Get him OUT of here). Ladies and gentlemen of the ISN I wish to welcome you to this press conference. We at Imperial Command give thanks to our Union neighbors and will do our best not to provoke further incidents which would cause our fleets to engage in destructive loss. Your assistance in obstructing incursions by forces of the ISC will be most welcome should circumstances bring ships our fleets together. We are pleased to hear the Havok was able to return home. Our condolences go out to friends of the families of the of the Senator crew.
I will now open up the podium for questions... _________________ Admiral Kr'toth's face turned purple with fury, his hand going to the d'k tahg at his side, “You dare insult my honor?!?” |

Hi Pinecone, yes most definately there will be more and future updates, life has been busy I am getting ready to re-locate to Seattle and will start a new "war College" in that area until that time, the guys and I here in Sacramento will try for a few more rounds of what should prove to be a very interesting end story and then I will depart to the emerald forest. I do beleive that sir drake and darctangent will continue the campaign though here in sac.
Thanks

I'm running a SFB campaign going into turn 11 and I might add a few more players.
This a strategic game with combat done by local group using SFB. You don't have to be
local to participate. I run this in my spare time and since we all work it is not a fast moving game.
I have my own campaign rules that I use. I have run several games some of them lasting over 5 years.
If you have any interest and want more information email me with questions. Gknapp1@gmail.com
Thanks |
