I'm guessing that without Maulers, scouts, carriers, minelayers/sweepers, Omega ships etc, we might be getting down the list pretty well. I don't know how many of the 2000 SFB ships use these BoM rules and races, but without them some of the races are probably getting a bit slim.
I'm still waiting for my ISC boys to finally make their appearance. Just give me 12-15 of these guys. I can't wait to fight in echelons! |

As I said earlier, the Feds and Orions are the only ones who are running low on candidates. Everyone else has at least a few ships available that have not yet been published.
But that is only if we limit ourselves to classes currently published. There are still entire classes of ships (e.g. Heavy Command Cruisers) that haven't been been touched yet. _________________

Well remeber, the CB's haven't even appeared yet, so we still have awhile to wait. But then, If a game is done in a couple years, then what's the point? |

In two years, you could have:
Early Years
Omega Sector
Lesser Magellanic Cloud
Simulator Races
SJ races (GW era Paravions and Carnavons, etc)
Minor Races (Vudar, Jindarians, etc)
Mirror Universe
In short, even leaving out the BoM stuff - there is no end to the game in sight. Some of it may take more effort to get into a playable format - but there's still plenty of good stuff left to do. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

*Wonders if there is more than one Gary here*
I can think of at least two (or three or four, or...) entries on that list I'd have no problems with!
And I might suggest another - advanced technology ships. Assuming they can be brought in smoothly enough, that is. _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)

Only one Gary that I know of... and I meant to list Advanced Tech ships, too. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

I'm not a role playing guy nor much of a miniatures guy and my only exposure to wargames when I was a kid was the Avalon Hill and SPI games. Those games were complete out of the box.
Then I picked up a copy of the earliest box edition of Star Fleet Battles and was introduced to not only the coolest Trek game available, but an entirely new concept in gaming...at least for me it was entirely new.
The concept? The concept was that a game might have several expansions, errata, play-test rules, modules, revisions, and editions. And virtually all of them published as products for sale.
That was totally new to me and I had a hard time coming to grips with it. At first when I made a purchase of something new, I was expecting a finished product without glitches or need for revision. When a number of years had passed there was talk of a final edition that would not need any more rule revisions. Everything would be redone in that new format. That became the Captain's Edition. New empires, ships, and types of ships have followed.
We have just begun down the Federation Commander road. There is plenty of material that has already been published, but there is a lot more to go. The big advantage we have is that the rules have been pretty much fleshed out and do not need revising. Now it is simply a matter of the add-ons. _________________ Mike

Well, we certainly have digressed a bit, but I certainly echo what Mike has to say. It's a tough balance for gaming companies. We ask them to provide us quality games with the expectation that they will be able to stay in business to continue to provide these games.
I found Federation Commander about 2 weeks ago and dropped about $475 getting everything I thought I need to have a current version of the game. Heh, I just found out that I overlooked the need for Captain's Logs as well and so will be looking at those too.
But I've come to the conclusion that I like this game and I want companies like this to stay in business. So I pay the price to enjoy quality games. I eagerly await the release of additional material with the understanding that the game will continue to be of high quality with the price to match. |

Mirror Universe? I thought that was against copyright law for ABD to publish. |

the "Mirror Universe" containing the Terran Empire is... but there's no reason an alternate universe with differnet alliances couldn't be developed... and is being discussed on the SFU BBS. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Oh cool! I never knew that (DS9 also had Mirror Universe, so...). Have they done it in SFB yet? They need to do it there first, right? |

Whoa there! Slow down a bit!
The "Reflections Universe" project (our name for the SFU Mirror Universe) is just in the discussion phase. (And is rather quiet at the moment, too.) Since SVC seems to be interested in it, it does have a decent chance of eventually being done. However, who knows when that could be. It does have decent appeal, as it can touch on everything ADB does, but it will take time, effort, and playtesting.
So, it could happen in 2010. But it probably won't. It is fun to think about though. _________________

Original: In two years, you could have:
Reply: That looks like four or five years work, to me, I'm just sayin'
Original: Early Years
Reply: This one isn't a big priority for me, but we might do it as a 96-page briefing, but I'm just sort of ... afraid ... of doing another pack of 72 ship cards. That's a hellacious amount of work.
Original: Omega Sector

Original: SJ races (GW era Paravions and Carnavons, etc)
Reply: I think he means Stellar Shadows empires. We do have a product FORGOTTEN EMPIRES as part of the plan that would include these. This might well be done as a "real" product as opposed to a "briefing".
Original: Minor Races (Vudar, Jindarians, etc)
Reply: Vudar will be in War & Peace. I dunno if we will ever do the Jindarians, but never say never.
Original: Mirror Universe
Reply: I can see us doing a "Reflection Universe" book which might include some FC Ship cards (B&W on paper, possibly with a "real" booster later). _________________ The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander
