Plugging away at it.
Drilling went really well (the jig worked great). I also test-fit the brass pins.
I've already moved on to fabrication of the final difficult part, the "top hat" brim for the command boom - which on the F-5W is much bigger and more of a lozenge-shape. That's being made from a scrap of brass stock (2/16" thick, I think).

Chug-chug-chug goes the minis-making train.
Tonight, the brass "top hat" (looks more like a cobra hood actually) got cut out using Mr. Dremel, a bunch of filing, and some judicious sanding [this is it with a stock F-5 for comparison]:
I also tacked it onto the boom to get a looksee.
Tomorrow night (after the superglue tacking it on cures overnight), I'll drill matching holes into the boom "bulb", then remove the "top hat" for final finishing. The pins that will go into these holes will serve double-duty. They will hold the "top hat" in place first and foremost, but the bit I will leave above the "top hat's" surface will also serve as anchors that the bridge dome and other details will be built up around. _________________

Will... looking good.
I was wondering how you intended to provide a skeleton structure for the bridge and other whosie-what'sits that sit on the top hat. Usign the anchor pins is a good idea. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Thank you kind sir.
I was originally going to glue the scavenged bridge structure from another F-5 mini on, but some sage advice from Mike Raper a few months back swayed me to do it this way.
BTW - I dunno if you saw, but I unofficially challenged you to a race on the other board. I work best with a deadline, so I am racing you and your Juggernaut master. First master shipped to Amarillo wins the unprize. _________________

I am really looking forward to seeing(and buying) the final product. Hopefully you can put it beside the F-5 when it is done, so that we can see the complete difference between the two. |

Oh, I will definitely take some pictures like that (including along the way).
There's also some diagrams I did as part of the proposal for this project that SVC said he was going to have Eric post up in the art gallery at some point, one of which shows all the Klingon frigate derivatives together. _________________

I'm within an hour of finishing the F-5W. I just needed to give my eyes a rest.
scoutdad undoubtedly got the Juggernaut into the mail first, but we'll see who's shipper-of-choice makes the trip to Amarillo quicker.
[EDIT: and in the words of Red Leader, "It's away!"]

I know that feeling!
Looks like the minis will probably make it to ADB on the same date. I couldn't get away at lunch to hit the Post Office, so I dropped it off late last night... meaning it wont actually be shipped until today.
I do like the F5W, though. Now to get a 3-ship squadron of them... and 3 for the Romulans...
Hey... here's a scenario thought:
Let's weigh the Juggernaut... then let's weigh the F5W. Can an even weight of F5W's take on the Juggernaut? _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro
