End of Turn 2:

The small comet has been chomped by the Black Hole. The F5K is trying a maneuver which will either make her master famous, or infamous depending on how well things were timed. Right now, it doesn't look like I timed it quite right, but just means it'll be slowed down if they go to ...

Q: Overloaded Disruptors at Point Blank - how much damage?

Assume one AD of an overloaded disruptor bank hits a ship at point blank range (4 or less).

Point Blank says that any AD that score a hit will do 1 additional damage point. It further states to add that in after any modifiers.

So. Step by step.

1. We start with Kill Zone. We now have 2 hits of 1 ...

First Battle

Fed vs Klingon of course.

Feds have:

CA (USS Intrepid)
NCL (USS Olympia)
DW (USS Ahmed Jabril)

Klingons have:

D7L (IKV Dreamslayer)
D7K (IKV Conqueror)
F5K (IKV Blood Chariot)

After turn 1, including the compulsory movement by the black hole at the bottom of the map. Only shooting was by the ...

Looking forward to this!

I just started looking at A Call to Arms: SFU a few days ago and ended up buying the PDFs for the first three volumes (plus a few other sundries).

I have to say, I was quite impressed at how much the flavor of the SFU comes through in the weapons and ships in spite of a very different and a couple ...

Gunboats?

Definitely a touch confused on damaging gunboats.

From 7.15b, a damage result on a gunboat (presumably from the Combat Table) causes 4 SFB damage points, reduces movement allowance by 2, and removes 1 weapon (via 7.15e).

The Combat Table however refers to everything in terms of SFB damage ...

And someone posted a replay of a game of Fed Space on Consimworld recently. I bought the game last year, and to be honest would be more likely to play it over F&E.

In any event, I happen to be eagerly anticipating Star Fleet Marines...

New scenario...

From a home grown scenario we're testing.. Part of a Fed CVA group trying to recover sensitive equipment and personnel from a top secret research base. Ships are in multiple stages of paint jobs...

(The Fed CVA is merely primed, the Fed DDE needs decals, and the C9 is just base coated). All ships ...

My "Not in Kansas" moment came in a solitaire test game of Klingon Armada. Picked a few ship classes for Fed and Klingon..

As pointed out, Klingon Agility doesn't really show up very well, so my Klingons floated into overload range.

The Feds put most of their torpedoes on closer targets, but on a ...

Always found the best way to learn/teach SFB was for a newby to stand over the shoulder of an experienced player --
Hearing/reading the rules not as good as seeing them in use -- -

I can teach SFB in about an hour (including the first turn power allocation) and have people playing after that ...

Part of the issue is that some tactics, like turtling, are defeatable but highly annoying to play against. There's a school of thought that says, "Just learn how to beat it, and your opponent will stop doing it." And that's fair.

My gaming partner and I have almost never gone to Speed 0: he did in ...

Ah, right... I'd forgotten the specifics of the 'stacking rule'.

I think the problem with moving rules from FC into SFB is that each group has rules they really like, and others they don't.. and each group has different versions of the above.

I personally like SFB mostly 'as is', with minor tweaks ...
