It's admittedly been quite a awhile since I've played SFB, let alone the Omega. I was engaged in some of the initial playtesting of Omega and liked the theme quite a bit. However, Omega ships seemed to offer a slightly different paradigm with both lower speeds (due to power shortages) and slightly ...

Like I pointed out, rather than fudging the plasma movement or changing BPV's, it would simply be more practical to allow plasma races either to be fully loaded or at least be in rolling delay at the start. This means a 1st and 4th turn launch capability for them in tournaments with similar power ...

While I am a long way from convinced that plasma is a problem, or has a problem, changing BPVs is very hard the way FC is printed, and would not be the way i'd fix it if it needs fixing at all.
Hey Steve. Like you, I am not yet convinced. However, most of my tournament play has been SFB and I've ...

Actually, I'm looking at it with FC colored glasses. Thus far, I haven't found the Gorn uncompetitive in the games I've played. I don't much care for the Romulans (never did anyway) and think they might have a point problem due to small phaser suites. I'll happily fly a Gorn cruiser against a Fed ...

My concern is that there should be no "special tournament rules". If Sabot is needed for tournament, then it is needed in the normal game. I really, really do not want to see FC turn into SFB in the sense that tournament SFB and "real" SFB are different animals, often to the exclusion of the other ...

This type of conversation is almost as old as SFB.
I don't think that Plasmas need changing. Perhaps, plasma ships need slight tweaking of BVP.
It is already well covered here that ships typically operate faster than in SFB. It is also true that the phaser capacitor gave more gross power to ships ...

Good question. Answers essentially reflect the lack of specificity of the question which is what ship are you using, who is your opponent and what damage have you already taken.
In SFB, the answers were different based on power curves and differential in repair costs. In FC, all ships have better ...

Glad you enjoyed it.
Bear in mind the sabre dance isn't necessarily something you do for an entire game. The point is to apply sand paper to tactically important shields before commiting to a closer range bracket.
You said that the Fed ship had lost most of its shield while you still had a strong ...

Sure, the scenario is not balanced. As suggested , have each player try both sides. Or in a tournament compare the relative scores among players who played the Fed and the Romulan. The players who performed best on each side can resovle 1st place with a straight up duel.
Even if this scenario isn't ...

Mike: That's why your crazy as a fed to fire all your photons beyond range 8 unless you're at long range and using SFB prox photons.
On standard Fed tactic though is to overload two and standard load two. If the Klingon stays at range 9-15 you can fire one or two standards along with phasers and ...

SWO_Daddy has the right analysis here. An experienced player using all of the bag of tricks EW, MRS shuttles, ECM drones, EM, T-Bombs, etc. may indeed defeat a larger force with the retrograde assuming the larger force is compelled to pursue.
However, even with the big bag of tricks, I think all ...
