One other item to keep in mind - one of the two primary enemies for the Kzinti BCH would be the Lyran Empire, and the Lyrans aren't exactly renowned as drone users.

The Type-G (i.e. "Fed Style") drone rack allows ADDs against the Klingons (who do use drones) and an extra drone to help against the Lyran ESGs.

But the feds aren't worst enemies with the Lyrans, unless you mean that's why the kzinti put it on their ship.

It is a "Type-G" drone rack. The term isn't used in FedCom because there's no reason to overcomplicate things. But if you played SFB, that's the name that it would go by. There's nothing exclusively "Federation" about it. It's just that the Federation likes to use it a lot because the Klingons only use limited drones, and the Romulans don't use any at all.

The thing to remember about Federation Commander is that it's based on 25+ years of ever expanding Star Fleet Universe history.

You're at a bit of a disadvantage not having learned SFB first, because the back-story for the races and their weaponry / ships / technology is consistent, well-thought out, and follows a logical chain of cause and effect. Much of that gets glossed over in the Fed Comm game because ADB is intentionally attempting to keep the size of the books down to prevent scaring off of new players.

Most of the seemingly inconsistent issues from Fed Comm (take the recent example of why Tholians in the Milky Way Galaxy don't use Particle Cannons) - those of us who've played SFB for 30 years new instinctively why that wasn't allowed. But then, Fed Comm comes along and produces ship cards for Tholian ships with particle cannons on them and then says, "But you can't use these in the Milky Way Galaxy!" without explaining why that was not allowed.
