I thought I'd put up some pics of some minis I've made, which are designed to play on the large hexes provided with Federation Commander. These are quite a bit smaller than the Starline ones, most heavy cruisers being about an inch in length. I think this makes them something like 1:10000 or maybe 1:11000 scale, the ships being approximately in proportion to each-other. For pictures of some of these in action, see Kang's "Treasure Ship" and "K-C7 Vs L-BCH" in the tactics section. I've put the pics on flikr, you should be able to get to them by this link:

I've taken mass pictures (i.e. several ships in one shot) but may put up closer shots of individual ships if I can get some good pictures (I haven't got the best camera in the world for close-up work) and if anyone wants any. I arranged the ships on the large hexes that come with Federation Commander, to give a sense of size and how they look "in action".

These pictures don't seem to come out very large on flikr, so I might see if I can get some larger ones put up somewhere, maybe for more detailed shots. First time putting pics on the web and all

Those are cool, and small. You should consider doing something like a blog or how-to on your construction methods. Good work dude.

Those are very cool. I'm amazed at how much detail you can pull off at that small of a scale and with those materials. Getting the "fins" on the Fed engines, for example - very impressive.

Those really look sweet. Detail both on the Minitures and in the painting is top marks .

I bet they are about the same scale as the old Elite Scale minis ADB made back in the late 80s early 90s.

I'll see if I can make another model and take pics at various stages so I can make a "how-to" type article. malleman, they're made using layered and/or carved polystyrene sheet ("plasic card") and pieces of sprue from model kits, stretched and carved where appropriate.

I think my favourite bit is colouring some of them with more fancy colour schemes, like that Lyran dreadnought, and the Orion BR that I did in a WW2 German Panzer cammo scheme!

Plastic card is also known as sheet styrene and can be found in most model / hobby shops under the brand name - Evergreen or Plastruct.
Although I usually just go to the local Wal-Mart / K-Mart and buy a few of the plastic "yard sale" signs. They are also made of sheet styrene and for 96 cents a piece for a 24 by 18 inch sign, they're a heck of a lot cheaper.

Below are two photos of 28 mm Bane Blades (super heavy tanks) I made for WH40K. They were made from yard sale signs, chapstick tubes, and any other scraps I could find... I probably don't have $3.00 worth of materials in either of them...

) , I read in one of your other post that you use a candle to help form your desired shapes. That is pretty cool. I sometimes use a small bic lighter when I am working with plastic to get the shape I am looking for. I also use plastic cement to help mold/melt the objects I work with. I use Tesors since it is in a liquid form and comes with a brush (as opposed to GW's which is in a gel form).

pneumonic81 if you run into problems finding some styrene (in your area), ask an architect where he gets his material, he should be able to point you in the right direction.

Now come on Scoutdad, we all know as soon as you added any GW parts to your Bane Blade (2nd pic) the price of your project shot through the roof

. Nice job on them. We had one guy make his out of foam board. They came out nice.
