WYN Wing Mount Selection

Post by terryoc »

Fish With The Right Bait
Terry O'Carroll, HMAS New South Wales

When deciding what weapons to put in your WYN "Fish" ship's wing mounts, consider what type of map is being used. On a fixed map, or against a slow target like freighters or a base, take drones and fly like a Kzinti. If the map is floating or location, take phaser-1s and sabre-dance like a Klingon.

..or take Gattling phasers and attack like a shark and kill them quicker. The combination of Disruptors, gattlings, P-3s and P-1s make the Wyn a very formidable foe capable of dealing with virtually all threats and having a killer punch available every turn

Can't do that. The ship description in (7M) specifically limits the WYN wing option mounts to either drone racks or Ph-1s. No other weapons may be used.

TerryO: Excellent advice and (IMHO) a great tactical note. After 25 years of SFB - our group selects optional weaponry for WYN / orion ships based on the type of map (fixed / floated) and the intended target (i.e, slow-moving / stationary / fast), so when FC came out we continued to do that - instictively; but it's nice to see that knowledge presented to others in a clear and concise manner. BRAVO!

The pirate situation's a bit more complicated. WYNs are stuck with disruptors as main weapons. Pirates can have all kinds of weird combinations. On top of that, they can even take plasma-Fs in the wings, and that will change the map from fixed to location! The best advice for the pirate seems to be to take a weapon combo that your opponent has difficulty with.

True, though players could still stick with a Plasma race on fixed if they want to.

Yes, I know, its technically against the rules.

What? You don't like Plasma D's in the wing mounts of Orions?
