Federation Old Light Cruiser

Post by AdamTurner »

I'm finally getting around to posting new ship art again. I've been so busy lately I haven't had time. Anyway, let me know what you guys think.

Not sure I like the UFP pennant there, it seems a bit out of place. Also, since this is an older ship, the 'official' lettering should be old-style as well. But these are nits.

Quite nice. :)

Woo, the Auroran... er, Fed CL!

(I'm still dying to see that ship done up in an FRA scheme...)

Looks good, and I do like the penant. On the other hand, the sensor array looks a tad large in my eyes.

Na, I disagree. I always liked that kind of Font for the Federation Lettering then the Old style. I say keep it Adam. The model looks great too. :)

The numbering and writing (and indeed the whole ship) could have been re-painted at some point in the ship's career, perhaps during repair or refit, so I would say it is fair enough to have "new style" writing on an "old style" ship.

Yeah, I thought about that. I just thought (and, forgive me, the SFU timeline isn't something I'm too familiar with) that the OCLs were largely either out of service or part of planetary fleets by the time the Microgramma lettering was used. Very much a nit, though.

I couldn't say on that one as I'm not sure when the "new style" lettering was introduced within the SFU timeline. I would have thought it would be probable that some CLs remained in service (perhaps in second-line work like convoy escort) late enough to have the newer lettering applied when they were serviced or repaired. I think things in the FC timeline are less clear-cut as to what ships were in service when anyway (at least as it is at the moment), so if the CL art is relevant to FC specifically then it probably wouldn't matter too much.

The Texas-class light cruisers served for a LONG time. They were still in frontline service at the time of the Romulan invasion of the Federation during the General War, and some were converted for use as troop transports and hospital ships.

That looks Great!!!!!!!

Obviously from my Avatar, I love the old CL.

I was also a big Sub-light rules fan in SFB, so I loved the sublight CL's battles with the Romulan Warbirds.

One of my greatest FC memories was creaming a D6 and an E4 with a lone CL. I wish I could have played with a counter that had that picture!

This is my first posting to this board and I wanted to say that I have become a BIG fan of your art work.

The OCL has always been one of my favorite ships

It's great to see some upclose shots of one.
