Orion BR Wing Options

Post by Davec_24 »

I just got Orion Attack yesterday, and I've noticed that the list of what options the Battle Raider can have in its wing option mounts does not include plasma-F torpedoes, yet there are arming tracks on the ship card for plasma-F launchers in weapon mounts Y and Z (the wing option mounts). Can anyone clarify what the situation is with these option mounts?

Yes. That is what happens when you have to print the ship cards well in advance of the final playtesting.

Short version: The rules are correct, the ship card is not.

Long version: When the ship cards were being made, I asked for more expansive weapons tracks to give more flexibility with what options the players could (or would) take. So, when the cards were done, this is what was done.

However, late in the game, and long after the ship cards were made, it became apparent in some playtesting that the BR and DBR were incredibly obnoxious with certain weapons options. (Five photons and 1xPl-G + 4xPl-F in particular. But even four fusion beams and a gatling could be scary.) After a few different ideas were tried, it was suggested to just down-grade the wing options on the BR and DBR. Since that solved the problem, it was done.

It isn't the ideal situation, but it prevented a potentially abusive set of configurations, despite the displays on the two ship cards. But, I do think the right decisions were made for game playability.

But the rules are right, and the ship cards are wrong.

Thanks for clarifying that - I thought it might be the case, but the presence of the arming tracks on the ship card made me think twice about it.
