As will stated, I have used several differnet things for sculpting details on my own, personal minis.

I've used miiliput, Tamiya putty, JB Weld, Testors brand Contour Putty, knead-atite, and the obiquitous "Green Stuff". A lot of this depended on what was available when I needed someting and what I was using it for.

When it comes to the masters for ADB; however, I know that the green-stuff works (and works quite well), so why take a chance.

My next project [which started last night] is a 2 1/2 to 3-inch long, castable version ofthe Juggernaut. this one will have a lot of brass, a bit of green stuff, a lot of 2-part epoxy, and some top-secret stuff that even I don't know of yet for the details/fiddly-bitz.

I was under the impression that cruisers (in the Starline 2400 series miniatures at least, looking at the actual size photographs in the FC rulebook) were of comparable size to that. Isn't the Juggie a fair bit larger than a heavy cruiser? I could of course be dead wrong or be thinking of the wrong miniatures...

iirc, the cover of Captains Log #1 (the issue with the original appearence of the Juggernaut) had one of the cruisers (the Tholian C, iirc) casting an itty-bitty shadow on the Juggernaut's hull.

Hope that helps with the comparative size question.

But casting the miniature at roughly the same size as a cruiser does make it easier to use with other miniatures.

It also makes it affordable.

Even the resin Juggies that were available for awhile were made at a reduced scale. The Juggy is immense, so it is scaled down for playability (much like the bases have been).

According to the story in the original Captain's Log (CL #1), the Juggernaut was kilometers long and the Command Cruiser Kongo could have flown inside the engine exhaust vents. At 1:3900 scale and even 1 kilometer long, that would make the model about 10.7 inches long.

Think of it as similar to the Starbase miniature. The starbase is actually large enough to dock starships inside... but the mini isn't.

The Juggernaut will be the same way. In order to have an affordable, readily available miniature - some concessions will need to be made.

Fair enough. If you were to make it true to scale it would just be huge, and in solid metal would be very, very costly. It would still be pretty awesome to scratch-build one "in scale" for tabletop gaming though...

Oh the things we'd like to do... if only our days were 40 hours each and money was no object...

That's what I get for doing this from memory.

I bought CL #1 new, on release date, at our FLGS - so I'm old enoug hto be entitled to a senior moment every n... wait an minute, what was I just talking about?
