No to be clear, on the campaign map each system will only have 1 hex, the addition of a star base or Bats would divide that hex into sectors, each sector is a potential battle that needs to be fought and won before moving back towards the goal in that system which is the defeat of the final base and sector to take the system.

The Home system is a single hex divided into 20 sectors. the first six of those sectors are the first line in the system and when attacking you MUST have enough ships to be able to attack each sector, then you must win 50% of those battles in order to move to the next line of sectors in the home system which will be 5 sectors, once again you ahve to have enough ships to be able to attack each sector and then win 50% or more of the battles in order to move to the next line of sectors which has 4...ect ect until you are at th last sector.

The neat thing about attacking a builit up system is you can technically have 6 fleets attack a home system ( 1 fleet attacking each sector, or 6 ships or 2 fleets and 4 ships or whatever works) of course it can be defended by 6 fleets in the first line as well, of course once you move to the next line which is composed of 5 sectors you would have to lose one of the previoous 6 fleets becaue you can only have a maximum of 1 fleet per battle (unless you were using a joint fleet with an ally present) the defender would also have to go to 5 fleets, the 6th fleet could be moved to treserve and you could draw ships from the reserve pool as the battles went on. Of course you can use any combination of ships as long as you have enough ships to place at least 1 into the attack of each sector and the defender has to have at least 1 for each sector to defend, if the defender does not have enough then whatever sector did not have shsips counts as an atumotic win for the attacking empire.

All in all attacking a home system is a MAJOR military operation.

Attacking a system that had a Battlestation in it would be a far simpler enagement, in that scenario the hex is divided into 2 sectors, one empty sector in front of the BATS and then the sector with the BATS intself so potentially 2 battles.

Me and my opponent are going to start our camaping soon. I chose o play the feds, and he will be the lyrans. My first ship is the USS Star Sheep (BCF), his is the LMS Hellcat (BCH). I'm going to use terrestrial worlds, while he chose gas planets.

I think you should each play a couple of races...if you can keep them acting separatley I think that would be fun.

Hmm, that does sound fun. I guess we could try it. His second favorite race is the Klinks, I'd have to decide between Gorn, Kzinti, Tholians, or Seletorian. Mabey even three races for each would work. Thanks for the idea commodore Mendez.

Now I'm controlling the Federation, Hydran, and Gorn. The other player has the Klinks and Lyrans.

Turn one's reasearch has been completed:

Federation: two Lvl 2 systems, a CL, a BCF

Hydran (Lucky): one lvl 4 and one lvl 5 system, a MHK, a CUR

Gorn (Unlucky): one lvl 1 system, a BCH

Lyran: one lvl 2 system, a BCH

Klingon: one lvl 2 system, a C-7

We've agreed to play in the frame of mind to help that race, not oursleves (like all good rules should). So it wont neccesarily be Federation, Hydran, and Gorn vs. Klingon and Lyran. For example, a tasty Hydran target would be the feds (Fusions and gatling vs. only photons), so though I play both those races, the Hydrans will start a war with the Feds. The gorn's tempting target would be the Lyrans (Plasma vs. ESG), so that's who they'll be after. The only non-upinyourface race is the klingons, so it'll be interesting to see how diplomacy progresses with them.

We'll add another race if neccesary, but this configeration will work for now.

The new turn begins tomorrow,

with it comes several enhancements to our campaign.

1. A new fleet operations laminate that I made that allows for a visual tool to be used to show the composition of each fleet and the composition of ships assigned to exploration, repair, patrol adn escort duty. Using this handy template we will have the players use the federation commander counters and place the corresponding ships onto the grid. The fleet operatioons grid alos has a place to show your admirals. (using fleet tokens)

2. we will place Fleet minitatures (tokens) directly onto the campaign map, the map we use has the .75 hex size to show the systems, there are only a finite amount of fleets so a miniatrue will be used on the map to show the location of empires fleets.
