Rescue the Cherenkov!

Post by Kang »

In this scenario (8B114), in Briefing #1, there's a limitation on transporters that states that "...you must tow the Cherenkov to a point more than 15 hexes from the corona. (If closer, the radiation interferes with transporter and communication systems)."

What happens then if I have 'pushed' the Cherenkov away from the corona so that my ship is between the corona and the Cherenkov, but my ship is exactly 15 hexes from the corona but the Cherenkov is 16 hexes away?

It had to happen to someone eventually, didn't it?

I played it that both ships had to be at least 15 hexes from the corona, as the systems being interfered with are on the ship doing the transporting, despite the interference no longer being present on the target ship i.e. the Cherenkov. I decided that either condition would prevent transporters being used.

BTW, I completed the scenario successfully with a Rom Sparrowhawk.....:) Enjoyed it too - in and out in fifteen minutes or less.[/i]

As the writer of this scenario, I think I can say that all that matters is that the Cherenkov be more than 15 hexes from the corona. By stipulating that it be more than 15 hexes, even if the rescue ship "pushed" it (as you did), the transporter beam would still be occurring 15 hexes or more away from the corona. That was the limitation I had in mind when I designed that aspect of the scenario. With the maximum tractor beam range being 1 hex in Federation Commander, there is no way the Cherenkov can be more than 15 hexes away while the rescue ship is less than 15 hexes away from the corona.
