Here is an example of our bases:

You can see the magnet and brass rods on the stand. Just in between the rear engines on this Seltorian CA you can see the other magnet (the gold disk), and just above and below the drilled holes for alignment. The shield grid is removable/align-able and held down with sticky-tack. We often use different colored shield grids to denote ships of the same class when there is no other way to differentiate them.

One of the guys that sculpts the minis (Starline 2400)
Ah yeah If you got 300 ships I can understand how Todd's adaptors would be a touch expensvie. I don't have nearly as many SFU or FASA-type ships so for the moment I can use 'em just fine. Though, I think they've basically gone up in price since the pewter did. The price is the same but instead of 5 and 10 packs they're only 4 and 8s now. Oh well
I started using the system that Will uses (and is shown in the first posting on page two of this thread) for the same reasons that John Schneder referenced in his post.
I spoke with the Ninja Magic guys at Origins a few years ago about there adapters. I even picked up a few recently for SITS miniatures. But I currently have just shy of 600 SFB minis and about half that many again, still in to paint. Ninja Magic adaters (and those really cool LithkoAero, engraved flight stands) for all of them will have to wait until they draw my numbers in the Powerball...
Until then, several of these for each empire will have to suffice.
