First Battle on Star Map

Post by shauneroo »

As you may have read in the minis section, I received my long awaited space mat today. Not having an opponent handy, and eager to play on it, I'm currenly carrying out a small action between Seltorians (DD, FF, HC) PV 310 and Romulans (FH, KE) PV 319. This probably isn't historically accurate, but I had to base it on ships that I have painted and ready to go (and I'm not getting into Web rules just yet...)

I'm using the robot rules for baseline speed and acc for the Romulans.

Straightforward duel, starting positions...

End of turn one, no firing as of yet...

Turn 2, end of impulse 3. Seltorian HC took a Plasma S into shield 3 and shield 1 is looking bad too due to PH-1 fire. FH has major damage to shield 1 due to PH-1 and PC fire. Seltorian DD shield 5 is down and it's running away from a PL-R launched by the KE...

They look great on that map. I'm particularly liking the Eagle. Very nice.

Yes, indeed, that Selt DD should run from a plasma-R! =)

Turn 2, end of impulse 6.

Seltorian HC has HETed to try and get back into the fray for the next turn. DD still burning rubber away from that Plasma-R, and has been picking away at it with PH 1&3 fire.

If my tactics for either side are crummy, I can only say that I'm still learning the system, and this is only about the 6th time I've played FC all told.

End of turn 2.

If you look very closely, you can just see the paw of Eric the Giant Space Cat who decided that the ships looked like great fun, and started to play with them. Unfortunately, the vagiaries of movement and baseline speed are lost on him and the ships ended up at various random points on the map, thus bringing an enjoyable session to an end.

First time playing with the hexless rules, and I found them to work very well. A little fiddly at times when measuring ranges, but worth it in my opinion for the increased immersion and realism the rules bring.

Eric the Giant Space Cat, looking rather pleased with himself.

Honestly, how can I tell him off? He's too cute.

Looked like a gigantic "Lyran-zilla" that got into that sector!

The Kzinti-kats ruin many a good game.

I've often wondered why there is no Giant Space Cat monster SSD; they possibly have caused more problems in the SFB universe than the Andros, Selts and Tholians put together.

Ah, the ever-present and completely-uncaring-about-the-game cat. Mine likes to lie down in the middle of everything, not paying attention to what he may crush or hit with his tail.

Your minis look great on the table. Makes me want to set up some action shots of my own.

Sure. I got it from a company called Hotz Mats in Canada. Here is the link...

My particular one is hexless (obviously) and is 72"x45".

As I said elsewhere, it took a while to arrive, but was well worth the wait.

Beautiful - pics and cat.

Shame you can't get a stasis box for him. That'd teach him...

Thanks!

I have two other cats to contend with too, although one of them is too old to be jumping up on tables now.

My kitten seems to love Twilight Struggle for some reason. She particularly like causing havoc in Western Europe...

Just curious about what you think of the robot rules and how they worked for the Romulans. Been thinking about a solo game with Romulans myself.

Not quite...He would have no sense of the passing of time and, therefore, would not have learned a lesson.

But if you put the cat in the stasis box, would it be alive or dead?

Huh?

Oh.

Sorry. Wrong cat ...
