I seem to remember Mike saying we were all well behaved so he didn't pop in here that much. You might need to pm him.interesting thought, what do you say Mike??
Think that was at least in part my fault: when the issue was raised a year or so ago, I wondered if there were enough campaigns out there to justify it. At the time there was just me and Pallida, but maybe there are more campaigns now? Commodore Mendez is running one I think? You know, I'm surprised you all didn't have Mike set up a whole category for campaigns, rather than try to keep it all in this one topic..............
Btw, Sgt G, did you see I eventually got round to answering you - would you like me to post battles from the campaign which have already been played as scenarios?
Also, it seems there might be potential for others to play some of our actual campaign battles (as you suggested I and rather doubted). It looks like we're getting to a point where there are a lot of battles to be fought. It would have to be a player decision, though. I don't feel I can impose this.

Yes, I saw it. I don't have a FCOL account as of yet. I need to learn the game first. Actually, I have to unlearn too much SFB first.Pinkfluffychicken wrote:Btw, Sgt G, did you see I eventually got round to answering you - would you like me to post battles from the campaign which have already been played as scenarios?

I wasn't trying to impose anything on you guys. I was just "thinking out load" about how I might run a large campaign, if I had the time to do so.
Regarding the topic vs. category post .... it just seems to me that there may be interest by some others to also run a campaign, but you have the only topic. Additionally, if I read this right, the first one ended and you're starting a new one. To keep it in one big on-going topic makes it hard for a newbie to sort thru. Lastly, when I saw this topic for the first time, its name "fed cmdr campaign" made me think it was rules and ideas how to run a campaign. Over on the SFB board, the campaigns (and topics) are given names to keep them separated.
Again, I'm not trying to impose anything on you all .... just throwing out ideas for you all to have a better, more fun time playing.

By the way, speaking of the first campaign being over, I suspect that if you all wrote up a review of how it went, perhaps SVC might find a hole in the next Captain's Log to publish it. Be sure to send an e-mail asking him before you spend hours writing, of course.
You could write about one of two things. You could write the history of what happened, what the major battles were, who won, etc.
Or, what I would find more interesting, is to read about how the campaign itself went, from the campagin manager perspective. How hard was it to run the campaign? What went right, and what lessons were learned? What sort of feedback did the players give?
Of course, you could submit both. Keep it to two or three pages (as published), more if needed but not much more than five pages. As SVC likes to say, "A good story should be like a girl's skirt --- long enough to cover what it needs to but short enough to keep your attention."

No problem. Apart from anything else it never occured to me that there might be a potential player pool for scenarios out there. As it turns out there are a couple of FF battles to be fought, but the players agreed results among themselves in our actual campaign since they were rather played out. Next turn who knows? There has been a lot of fighting and I'm not sure how much wound licking and consolidation will be necessary. If any. Support costs have just been imposed on Empires to limit overall fleet sizes and this might have some effect also.I wasn't trying to impose anything on you guys. I was just "thinking out load" about how I might run a large campaign, if I had the time to do so.
Now, it doesn't take me much time. I'm more referee than Campaign runner. The map exists, players are in contact and inform eachother of attacks according to preset rules which are holding together at present. Each turn I check the economies and have a few hours fun changing the master map.
Absolutely fine by me. My original comments were a loooong time ago in topic terms!Regarding the topic vs. category post .... it just seems to me that there may be interest by some others to also run a campaign, but you have the only topic. Larator is running his second campaign on this thread, he does a shorter term style I believe, mine is designed to run for a long time based on a previous campaign run by SFB players. I played in that campaign but never ran it. It lasted around a decade. My campaign is directly descended from that campaign and who knows if it'll go that long? Not me, but it's 18 months plus so far.
You have done so. Thank you.Again, I'm not trying to impose anything on you all .... just throwing out ideas for you all to have a better, more fun time playing.

Yeah, well, I had to go to work. I'm on the night shift. I turned down going to afternoon shift (can never get anything done), and no one on days wants to switch.Pinkfluffychicken wrote:Oh, Hi, Sgt G. You posted as I was replying. Won't stay as I must go to bed. Will reply tomorrow. Goodnight.

Interesting discussion so far. It is interesting how this all started. I placed this thread as a total newbie to the forum in sept of 2007. I had created some rules for running a non-linear and story driven campaign where the ships would level up (actually it originally started as officers levelling up) and gain abilities and as such gain a degree of noteriety. The goal was to have the players really hold thier ships as special and when battles (scenarios) were fought that the battles would have meaning and the ships too would mean more than just a means to an end (winning) I did this because as a stand alone game I do not enjoy playing a series of non-related battles (just me)
This thread was actually only supposed to be the Empire campaign rules, which started out as basic and then evolved to several different versions, with version 1.5 being the last "empire core version" and then I created and added the expansion which is Code of War or "COW" Code of war. Which added much needed elelments to the rules sush as Admirals, Command tokens and a host of new combat, convoy, levelling, NPC, and FLeet rules. These rules supercede the Empire rules where warranted, to date I have had over 100 players ask for the rules and I have emailed them to thier personal email as well as always kept a current edition of the rules posted here. though the way it copies does not do it justice on this particular communication vehicle.
When it started SVC asked for me to send him the rules and over a period of a few months he and I communcated and I sent him everything I had created including all the forms and template supports tools. he had this campaign mentioned in the FC newsletter way back in 2007 I beleive.
I have had the same "campaign group of players (minus 3) over the same period of going on almost 2 years (we started before ever making this thread) and during that time we re-started once the main campaign ended in oct of 2008 with the creation of the code of war rule and we decided to re-start.
We currently have 4 of us playing who are veteran and seasoned players and we have others who drop in and out to help in battles as needed. The payers in this campaign are awesome and we have formed a great gaming group of which I am proud to gamemaster and even more poroud to be a part of.
I hope this gives a little background of the intent and purpose of the thread.
thanks for bringing up the observations...any other thoughts please let me know.

I am one of the recipients of the empire rules, and I love them. my players (7 of us) are having a great time, I think we will start posting our results on this thread.PallidaMors wrote:Interesting discussion so far.
