The late (in real world) addition of the DDM has only 2 photons. The "old fashioned" (in real world terms) DD keeps all four photons.Mike wrote:A few questions about the Middle Years Federation Destroyer.
Does the MY DD have only 2 photons?
Yes. I still argue that the drone should be removed completely in any era. But, yes, in the Middle Years it is definitely gone.Should its drone be removed?
Yes. They are gone.Should its 2 Ph-3's be removed?
Also, the four Reactor are four more Lab. (The ship has eight total, like the CA.)

One duel situation I can't wait to try is the Fed DDM vs. the Kzinti light cruiser. The point values are very close (difference of 4 points). Each ship has some definite strengths and each its own weaknesses. Sometimes its difficult to find "medium" sized ships that match up well, but this just might be a very good matchup.
Where can I find the scoop on Booster #91?Nerroth wrote:You know, I wonder if a combination of the new reference rulebook, a copy of Briefing 2, and the upcoming Booster 91, might not work as a good introduction to Fed Commander for those interested in trying out the TV-era ships...

I'm not sure where there is a description online, but according to B2 the aforementioned Booster will include the Franz Joseph ships, and a couple of others too.
(Bear in mind that the Scout will only be for use in Borders of Madness, while the Tug is of a range of ship types not yet introduced to Federation Commander.)

First of all this is my first posting so be nice...
I have been a SFB player on and off since the early 80's so the middle years seem old hat to me. Most of the ships seem to be the original SSD's before the Nexus/CL arms race started.
Back then most fights were one on one or small fleets where the ships were fought like fighters. Hence no rear shields or RA weapons. Also stinger ones were the only fighter out there for a while. The trick was to have one or two survive to range one or Zero then it was over.
Hellbores and Env Plasmas really changed things for a few races. After that Drones started becoming a dime a dozen with different stats and life got interesting. As soon as I get time I am going to dig out my old expansion and commander SSD's and do some comparing.
Trivia question, Does anyone else remember S torps being called G II's or Fast patrol ships being called Psudo Fighters?
