Plasma Bolts

Post by USS Enterprise »

Are there Plasma Bolts in SFB or is it a FC thing. If there are, I'm wondering why the bolt option is unavailable in Starfleet Command?

Yes. There are Plasm Bolts in Star Fleet Battles.

Off the top of my head, I can't thnk of anything (except Battleships for every empire) that are in Fed Comm and not in SFB.

As for Star Fleet Command, it's probably not there because Taldren never coded for it...
Actually, I don't know. SFC is a reasonable facsimile of SFB - but it's not an exact duplication.

They probably decided it "didn't work" in the game design they had and dropped it. They skipped some things from SFB and included some things I was really surprised by.

SFC is it's own game. Kissing-cousin to SFB, but distinct.

In SFC, you can't fire Pl-D at enemy ships, and there is only one photon overload setting.

And Scoutdad: Web snares aren't in SFB, right?

Yes, they are.
Webs, Web Snares, Web Casters, and Web Fists are all present.

Which Empires in SFB have Battleships?

Klingon. They have the B-10.
Other races felt it was prohibitively expensive to produce such a beast and thye therefore remain conjectural for all other races.

The Seltorains do have a Hive Ship. It's an 8 bay version of the FC Battle Wagon... but still not classified as a battleship (at least I don't think it is).

The Andromedan Devastor was a pretty massive piece of hardware, also...

pinecone - Everything starts in SFB. Whatever the item may be (plasma bolts, BB's, whatever), it might be conjectural in SFB, but it will be there along with rules to cover it's interactions with every other thing. The whole game system derives from that original game. It's also why there are hundreds of pages of SFB...

there's only 498 pages of actual rules. The rest is merely:
Ship descriptions...
Scenarios...
Mini Campaigns...
Annexes...
Master Ship Charts...
and SSD's... lots of SSDs (about 2000 pages so far!)
