Federation Tactic

Post by USS Enterprise »

What is your key Federation Tactic?

Charge in for Overloads, getting as close to range 0 as possible and firing all Photons-

Quite self explanatory

Dancing into range 8, firing all overloaded photons, and ducking back out

Also self explanatory

Dancing into range 8, firing half your overloaded photons, and ducking back out

Same as above, but fire only half each turn to keep the enemy off balance.

Rolling Thunder (Fire half standard or overloaded Photons each turn)

Same as above, but instead of trying to get to range 8, let them go when they want, and always have a half load of Photons ready for them when they come.

Staying at range 15 and firing Phasors (And Sniping with Half of the Photons) keeping half ready when a pesky enemy gets close.

Fire When Loaded! My custom strategy, which involves firing all Photons fully overloaded at range 0, then running away at speed 24 +1 while using Drones as a Distraction and running away.

Rinse and Repeat.

Other? (Specify with post.)

There's not an option to vote for my Favorite Federation Tactic - Other.

I utilize the tactic that denies my opponent their most effective tactics.

That varies from Empire to Empire, ship to ship, mission requirement to mission requirement, opponent to opponent, scenario to scenario.

Ditto. This poll is too restrictive.

Thirds. My group's Klingon never lets me get away with the same thing twice.

I have to add that although when playing Klingons I usually prefer to hit Fed ships from the angles that DON'T have photon torpedoes pointing out of them, it does sometimes go wrong. And at such times it is really funny to watch the Fed player's face when he fires a full spread of photons and every one misses!

Happened to me a couple of nights back... we shouted "un-Qa'pla!"** as he rolled the dice... every photon missed! And there was much rejoicing in the Klingon ships.

** Because we were Klingons who did not know the word "failure"! Well, not in Klingon anyway...

That's pretty funny. I think I'm gonna name the next D7 I fly the "un-Qua'pla!" as that accurately describes my skill / luck / abilities with the D7.

I chose the Fed-up tactic. I like to load, then charge.

Except for Lyrans. I haven't figured a way to beat them yet.

Sorry, thought I added other. If you pick other, just say so and express in a post.

I mean in Duel scenario, I'll specify that in the Klingon Post I'm making.

Why? The Feds are powerful in their own right.

My main gaming opponent is right there with you Kang. He hated the two-turn arming sequence of photons the one time he tried them. He's much happier grinding me down, turn after turn. :?

He Despises them. The fact that our group's Romulan-fan (his best-friend) is an extremely deliberate player, who does nothing without due-thought and pondering doesn't help
We've never finished a game in one session with Romulans in the mix.

On topic, sorta: Way back when... when we were playtesting the General War era Paravians for Sellar Shadows Journal #2 - we did a really big Gorn vs Paravian battle. 7 ships per side, in SFB, Gorn Plasma Torps, Paravian Quatum Wave Torps, a scout on each side, a small carrier and escort on each side, and a floating map.

48 SFB! turns later, we dicided it was a pretty even match and reset for a smaller scenario...
